The modified 12-item World Health Organization's Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) and 7-item WHO Domains of Functioning and Health was used to collect survey data.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The overall prevalence of severe disability was 9.04%. This prevalence increased with age. Visual impairments were the most commonly reported type of disabilities. In 83% of the study participants, the causes of disability were modifiable, such as illness (36.93%), injury (17.81%), and congenital (10.86%). The elderly, those unable to read and write, the single and the separated were significantly associated with severe disabilities.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>This study found severe disability is highly prevalent in Dabat district. Visual impairments were the most common reported types of disabilities, followed by mobility and hearing difficulties. Most individuals with disabilities had not completed high school, and employment opportunities were limited. {"title":"Developing a Medical Education Framework for Migrant and Refugee Mental Health in Switzerland.","authors":"Andrina Klöti, Fayez Abdulrazeq, Amina Trevisan, Tobias Eichinger, Fana Asefaw, Nikola Biller-Andorno, Julian W März","doi":"10.3389/ijph.2025.1608047","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3389/ijph.2025.1608047","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objectives: </strong>This study aimed to develop a medical education framework for migrant and refugee mental health in Switzerland, given substantial mental health challenges displaced people face along the phases of migration.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Through informants from Swiss medical faculties, we assessed the existence of a comprehensive curriculum in migrant and refugee mental health. The curriculum was drafted based on a selective literature analysis, then reviewed, and verified by a committee of 17 experts in mental health of refugees and migrants. Their inputs have been used towards the development of the final framework.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>No relevant comprehensive education framework existed, however, most medical schools provided related teaching. The literature analysis identified migration-related risk factors, social determinants and challenges when providing mental health to this population. Teaching methods included lectures, reflection rounds in small groups and practical experiences. The committee consisting of students, physicians and academics suggested a high level of approval for our initiative.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Our method followed a pragmatic approach to suggest an expert-approved curriculum. Globally, 10%-20% of individuals aged 18-29 face mental health challenges, with many also experiencing physical pain. Despite growing evidence of the bidirectional relationship between mental health and pain, this intersection remains underexplored in Lebanon, especially compared to WEIRD countries. This scoping review examines the relationship between physical pain and mental health issues-anxiety, depression, and stress-among Lebanese youth.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A systematic review of studies from January 2014 to February 2024 was conducted by screening PubMed, PsychInfo, and ScienceDirect. A total of 33 studies were included.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The findings indicate a bidirectional link between mental health and physical pain. University students (36.1% of studies) were particularly impacted, and 81% of studies reported higher pain prevalence among females. We interviewed 32 relevant stakeholders from various backgrounds. We used a mixed inductive-deductive approach in data analysis, drawing up on an adopted framework comprising of health policy triangle and selected agenda setting framework.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Our analysis revealed eight constructs, eight themes, and 26 subthemes. The constructs included: common voice, leadership, scientific evidence, economic, multi-sectoral collaboration, advocacy, early warning systems, and supreme decision-making center. The main themes identified were shortcomings in: consensus, high-level political commitment, cooperation, System approach, research, planning, economic resources, and public participation. This review's protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022309998). There was no publication time or language restriction. Inclusion criteria included randomised controlled trials and other intervention types of frailty interventions that focussed on community-dwelling older adults (mean age of at least 60 years) with prefrail or frail living in LMICs. The meta-analysis could not be conducted because of the heterogeneity of frailty interventions.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>This systematic review included fifteen studies: eleven were single-domain interventions (exercise, nutritional supplementation, and nurse home visits), and four were multidomain interventions (exercise plus nutrition and exercise plus mindfulness). Some evidence from high-quality studies showed that physical exercise interventions successfully addressed frailty.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>This systematic review highlights the scarcity of evidence on frailty interventions in LMICs, making it difficult to evaluate their effectiveness. Supported by a solid evidence base for CRC screening, cantons have increasingly established organized screening programs. This report summarizes and discusses the state of this program landscape using findings from the Swiss Improving Organized Colorectal Cancer Screening: An Implementation Science Study.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Semi-structured interviews were conducted with clinical or administrative leads for Swiss CRC screening programs to understand key characteristics, including host organization, enrollment pathways, screening modalities, and program deliverers.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Eleven out of 13 existing or planned programs in 2021 participated, eight of which have been developed since 2020. All programs offer mail invitations to citizens 50-69 years old and fecal immunochemical testing, though positivity thresholds vary. Access to colonoscopy and the role of healthcare providers vary between programs.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Cantonal influences on designing and implementing preventive services allow programs to adapt to local conditions. However, they also challenge opportunities for cross-program learning, efficiencies, and equity. We investigated labor market attachment trajectories among working age women diagnosed with PCOS.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A cohort of 157,356 women born in 1975-1977 were followed annually between the ages of 30 and 39, using data from Swedish administrative registers. Multinomial logistic regression was employed to assess associations between being diagnosed with PCOS (after the age of 15) and belonging to the identified clusters of labor market attachment trajectories.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Women with PCOS spent less time in employment and were more dependent on sickness benefits during the follow-up time than those without PCOS. Five labor market attachment clusters were identified: <i>stable employment, education into employment, labor market exclusion, continuously unstable position, long-term sickness</i>. Compared to being in the <i>stable employment</i> cluster, women diagnosed with PCOS were more likely to experience <i>long-term sickness</i> [RRR (relative risk ratio): 1.97 (CI: 1.90-2.05)], and <i>education into employment</i> [RRR: 1.11 (CI: 1.07-1.15)].</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>PCOS can lead to disadvantaged labor market outcomes.
