After gain - ing world heritage status, there is an obligation to maintain the authenticity and integrity of the values in cultural heritage sites. Aim: In this work, in Safranbolu that was included in the World Heritage List in 1994, ‘renovation’ practices carried out under the name of conservation is handled in the context of ‘authenticity’ and ‘integrity’. Method: urban renewal im - plementations in Safranbolu Old Bazaar region are discussed under three different headings; partial or holistic reconstrucs - tion implementations of listed buildings (A), replacement of unregistered buildings that conform to the scale of the texture by imitating the traditional houses (B), and the demolition of unregistered structures that conform to the scale of the texture, and imitation of traditional houses by reconstruction (C). Re -sults: Safranbolu has been moving away from its outstanding universal values with examples realized by ‘ destroy the au -thentic, reproduce by imitation ’ and ‘ produce by imitating the authentic ’ mentality. Conclusion: In a site where no building is similar to each other and each is shaped in its own context, the renovation practices where the original is ‘imitated’ puts the ‘authenticity’ and ‘integrity’ values of this town at risk. ABSTRACT Abstract: After being accepted to the UNESCO World Heritage List, it is necessary to ma intain the authenticity and integrity of the values in the cultural heritage sites. In this respect, ‘authenticity’ and ‘integrity’ in conservation practice are the basic concepts that should be dealt with under the unique conditions of cultural heritage. In December 1994, three settlements in Safranbolu (Old Bazaar, Kıranköy and Bağlar) succeeded in entering UNESCO World Heritage List by meeting the main criteria of authenticity and integrity. As a result, tourism in Safranbolu has quickly become an important part of the economy. Today, most of the area serves tourism-oriented functions. The Safranbolu Old Bazaar area discussed in this article was revitalized by eliminating or changing the factors causing socio-cultural, economic and physical collapse for the purpose of urban conservation and rehabilitation. However, the settlement has started to move away from its original values by witnessing different renewal approaches. Aim: Con sidering this situation as a danger for the future of the city, the main purpose of the study is to introduce the conservation and renewal practices in the region in the last twenty years. Method: In this article, examples of conservation and renewal practices in Safranbolu will be analyzed through the two important concepts of the UNESCO World Heritage Criteria: ‘authenticity’ and ‘integ","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131317195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Local food, craft, and homemade products have been replaced by industrial products based on the mass production of machines and cities have gone through a period of rapid growth. Today, unplanned growth and rapid population growth have caused serious problems in cities and negatively affected urban life. In these unplanned urbanization activities, practices that can harm the natural environment and cultural heritage of the cities have emerged. These factors create the problem of losing local identity in cities today. To prevent the problems that arise in this situation, it is necessary to protect the local identity, cultural, natural, and historical heritage in the cities. In this context, the promises of the Cittaslow movement, whose aim is to \"protect nature, local and all existing cultural values\", and the benefits it will bring if implemented, have attracted attention recently. Cittaslow is a reaction to the fast lifestyle imposed by globalization. Cittaslow is applied in many settlements around the world today. This study, it is aimed to investigate how the Cittaslow movement can be applied to Harput and the achievements that the Harput region can achieve with the Cittaslow criteria. Method: Suggestions for Harput were developed within the scope of Cittaslow criteria by evaluating the expert opinions obtained by the survey method within the scope of the research and analyzing the current situation of the field. Results: The findings obtained within the scope of the study were that positive results would be obtained if the cittaslow approach was applied directly or in principle to Harput. Conclusion: If Harput is declared as Cittaslow, the historical settlement will become an important ancient city again, although it does not fully regain its importance in history due to the destructions it has suffered. Another method in this regard is to apply only the Cittaslow criteria to Harput as an urban policy.","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131525652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traditional texture of Mardin is one of the rare examples with its settlement in both street-façade and sloping topography. Aim : The aim of the study is to analyze the design parameters of traditional street fabric in Mardin has historical and cultural heritage and to continue the design approach in façade arrangement works by revealing the relationship between traditional street fabric and façade. Method : Within the scope of this study observation, photographing, interviews with institutions and literature review were made. The relation between façade of house and street was revealed by evaluat-ing the plans, maps and analyzes of the traditional fabric of Mardin obtained from local governments. Also photographs taken in the area were used for the evaluation of residential layout, properties of door and window at façade see the street, residential and street fabric. In this evaluation, topography, climate and cultural parameters were focused. Findings : In this study, the connection of traditional Mardin houses and their location to the street is discussed.Topography, climate and cultural parameters have a significant impact on the formation of traditional Mardin’s street and residential fabric. Old Mardin houses and settlement structure, street and facade characteristics are shaped within the framework of these parameters. Result : In the framework of the holistic understand- ing, the necessity of conservation of the traditional residential fabric of Mardin is revealed. In order to prevent the deteriora- tion of these areas, which are data banks in the formation of sustainable street textures, recommendations were made for the survival and protection of these areas. ABSTRACT Historical urban areas with the values belonging to the past, have formed settlements that have unique properties. Mardin has formed the example of commercial city and unique settlement, with its climate, topography, historical and cultural structure. Mardin consists of the fortress located on the plain on a steep rocky ground and the main city on the south-facing slope of the castle. With the effect of topography, the city continued its development towards the south.This situation led to the orientation of the houses with multi-storey and terraced, and developing of the streets parallel to the slope in the east-west direction. In order to provide road connections in the north-south direction of the settlement, solutions were often produced with large step ladders. The width of the roads is limited with the narrowness of the terrain and the effect of the climate. In general city protected its borders until the XIX. century, from these years new elements added to the city has entered the process of growth and change. Mardin city center was preserved as a protected area due to the fact that it was declared as a protected area in 1979, but the new urbanization trends l","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134582733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These minorities that are active especially in trade and social life, have been able to find the environment in which they will live their own culture. The Maronites, which are among these groups, migrated to the inner parts of Anatolia, including Cyprus, Mersin and Konya, in 1860 due to the internal conflicts in Lebanon. While blending in the local culture, they have been an important element of commercial and social life in Konya with their own identity and culture. This study aims to show how some of the Maronites, who had to migrate to various parts of the Ottoman Empire and settle in Konya, shaped and expressed their houses differently from the local architecture while living in the same climate, topography and geography, and to show how the different beliefs and culture, manifested themselves in their architecture. Method: Within the scope of the study, civil architecture examples built by the Maronites starting from the end of the 18th century in the city centre of Konya were determined from the inventory studies and the Cultural Heritage Preservation Board records. Literature researches were conducted on the subject. Samples that have preserved their characteristics today and are still standing in city centre were selected and examined. Results: The current status of the houses which belonged to Maronites, located on the line between the Anıt Square and historical Girls’ Teachers School in Konya city centre were determined and the Chamber of Architects building, Ataturk Museum, Arapoğlu Kosti House and the Girls’ Secondary School were selected as they reflect the architectural identity of the Maronites. The common features of these houses were determined and compared with traditional Konya houses. Thus, it was observed how these effects were reflected in the houses shaped by different socio-cultural influences, both in terms of spatial organizations and in terms of facade characteristics. Conclusion: Considering the common features of the selected Maronite houses in the study area, although there are similarities with traditional Konya houses in terms of the plan, it is seen that there are baroque and orientalist influences in the plan and the facade in terms of materials used, also in the entrance opening the street, the construction of the façade (such as cornerstones, floor mouldings and window jambs), and the onion dome or wavy eaves detailed roof cover, unlike the traditional civil architecture.","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133480694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ancak kentler mekânsal, sosyal, siyasi ve kültürel değişimler, hızlı nüfus artışları, hızlı kentleşme vb. değişimler nedeni ile kentsel kimliklerini koruyamamaktadırlar. Amaç: Hızlı bir kentleşme yaşayan Tekirdağ ili merkez ilçesinin kent kimliği özellikleri açısından incelenmesi ve kent kimliğinin, mekan-insan ilişkileri bağlamında mekana yansımalarının analiz edilmesidir. Yöntem: Çalışmada, algılanan kent kimliğini ortaya koymak için mekansal gözlem verileri ve anket yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Bulgular: Yeni fonksiyonlar ile kullanıcı algısı değişmiş ve kentin sınırları genişlemiştir. Bununla birlikte kent kullanıcısının, ilk yerleşim yeri olan tarihi merkezi hala kent merkezi olarak kullanmaya devam etmekte olduğu ancak aktif-genç nüfusun artık bu alanı odak değil geçiş alanı olarak kullanmaya başladığı tespit edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda kent içinde daha az deneyimi olan aktif nüfusun kenti algılamada yetersiz olduğu mekânla kurulan ilişkilerin birbirinden farklı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Method: A test was conducted among students from Tehran and Konya Technical Universities to investigate the influence of education on improving group design quality. This experiment was conducted by having three-hour drawing sessions and dividing the students into 8 groups. The single-variable test method was utilized because of the independence of the groups and the equality of their variances. Two preliminary exams were used to measure students’ lack of understanding and familiarity with group work, followed by an extra examination for the students involved in the issue. Results: The findings revealed that in group architectural design, group members focus largely on the design’s content, with team communication centred on two essential aspects: content analysis and process review. Conclusion: Teamwork in designing can be superior to solo effort, and proper training can increase this. It is felt that paying attention to the concept of group design and teaching it in architecture schools is useful.","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125675471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: This study aims to reveal the differences between all architectural education institutions in Turkiye. Course contents, course hours, studio hours, elective course hours, interdisciplinary courses, IT-based courses, number of students and faculty members, part-time faculty members, teaching languages, geographical locations, international connections, achievements and accreditation status of universities were analyzed. Results: According to the results, it was observed that the unbalanced increase in the number of faculty members, especially in foundation universities, was met by externally supported part-time faculty members. Although this situation provides a solution in the short term, it negatively affects the quality of education in the long term. In addition, the inability of architectural education institutions in Turkiye to achieve international accreditation leads to a loss of prestige in the international arena. Conclusion: The study identifies the shortcomings of architectural education and profession in Turkiye and offers recommendations for educational development. Among these recommendations is that all universities should undergo a joint accreditation process and become members of the national accreditation platform, MİAK. It is then suggested that MİAK should move to an international level by providing a global co-operation. It is also suggested that the duration of architectural education in Turkiye be increased to six years and a new curriculum be proposed. These steps are thought to help improve the quality of architectural education in Turkiye and make it internationally competitive.","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123672769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biology and technology are used to understand nature and with the developments in these fields; architecture is greatly affected along with others. Advances in genetics along with the digital design technology, offers new possibilities to designers for the creation process in architecture. This study explores parallelism with architectural design by exploring existing biological material and observing its dynamic structures. It is aimed to blur the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, and to think of architecture in a wider ecology. In this article, the concepts of biodigital architecture were discussed. The interaction between biology and architecture was read by experimentation on fungi. As a result, the structure that’s been observed was transferred to the digital environment and used as a methodological data to incorporate biology into architectural design. The conclusion reached within the scope of the research is that hybridized structures with biological materials will become widespread in the future. The connection between the living and the artificial lays the groundwork for semi-living architecture. With advanced technologies, the design material would have unique qualities and it may be possible for the structures to grow and build itself.","PeriodicalId":142407,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL REFEREED JOURNAL OF DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE","volume":"33 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127240911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Landscapes that are rare and uniquely distinguish this distinction. The aim of the study is to evaluate the Göreme (Nevşehir) region, which has an extremist landscape with its landforms, natural and cultural history and all its richness, in terms of visual components, and to use the obtained data in order to reveal the value of cultural heritage and to protect the visual integrity within the area and plans for this it is done. Method: In the study, the elements that form the basis of the local landscape are discussed in terms of holistic and fractal structure. The effect of repeated landscape elements on the image, the effects and contributions of other elements were evaluated. These fairy chimneys and rocky formations form the region alone, together with man-made elements integrated with them in the history process. It is not known whether this extrem landscape is only with its natural rocky structure or with the natural and artificial elements in the region to create a whole landscape perception. What these elements are and their effect levels are questioned. Results: Familiarity appeared in sharp rock formations, the image, which received a high score in terms of landscape beauty, has been the landscapes where the topographic structure is at the forefront (M=8,21). Plant presence has increased the appreciation in terms of class (Scene A6, M=7,24), the parts that make up the landscape expressed a high value as a whole and the repeated elements increased the perceptual and visual value. For this purpose, 5 photographs with high representational value and fractal structure of the field were selected. These photographs were presented to the participants in parts and asked to evaluate them. The results obtained by various statistical analyzes were digitized.
