The results of heavy metal variations examined showed C. gariepinus recorded higher concentrations of the metals compare to T. dageti. Among the metals studied zinc (Zn) values were higher for both species while cadmium (Cd) values were lower. Ranking profile in organs was: liver >Gills > muscles with metal in order of Zn > Pb > Cu > Cd. Concentration of metals varied significantly ( p <0.05) in organs for T. dageti . Zinc (Zn) recorded higher concentration (1.2000 mg/kg) while cadmium recorded lower values (0.0034 mg/kg). Also the correlation results during the study for the two species showed C. gariepinus have a strong association with the heavy metals compare to T. dageti. The Correlation association of heavy metals for cadmium (Cd) showed there was significant difference ( p <0.05) for affinity for metal between the species. However, Lead (Pb) concentrations showed weak correlation between C. gariepinus and T. dageti during the study period. The correlation results also showed significant difference ( p <0.05) in zinc (Zn) concentrations for C. gariepinus compare to T. dageti . Results of this study ascertained occurrence of heavy metals in lower river Benue and that variations in levels affect fish. All metals studied were within safe range for fish and fisheries product by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)/World Health Organization (WHO) in the two species. However continuous monitoring and check on fish species for heavy metals load should be encourage and sustained. Heavy metals concentrations should also be investigated in other commercial species of the river to assess their safety for consumption and routine studies of the river water should also be sustained.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84897027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kulthi is an important legume especially in tribal areas. Horse gram (Dolichos biflorus L.) locally known as Kulthi is extensively grown in peninsular India. It is claimed that ingestion of Kulthi cures urolithiasis. Studies were therefore, planned to induce urolithiasis experimentally in cockerel to observe the effect of feeding Kulthi on growth, feed intake, feed efficiency and levels of serum calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.For the present study, 50 cockerels were divided into 5 groups of 10 each and fed 5 different diets viz. diet I- Control having Normal Calcium (1%) and Normal available Phosphorus (ap 0.5 %) - NCNP; II- High Calcium (3.25%) and Low available Phosphorus (0.3%) – HCLP (to induce urolithiasis); III- HCLP + 1% NaHCO3 (Sodium Bicarbonate) - HCLP (B); IV- HCLP (B) + 1% NH4Cl (Ammonium Chloride) – HCLP (A); V- HCLP + 1% NaHCO3 + Kulthi seeds – HCLP(B) K. Diets were fed from 9 to 32 weeks of age. During the experimental period, body weight, feed intake, feed efficiency was recorded. The levels of serum Ca, P & Mg were determined at monthly interval. X-ray and histopathological examination done at the end of the experiment. The results of study indicated that HCLP diet adversely affected growth, feed intake and feed efficiency. Incorporation of Kulthi in HCLP diets improved feed intake and gain in body weight. All the HCLP diets has no beneficial effect in preventing urolithiasis & kidney damage except HCLP diet with NH4Cl – beneficial in preventing urolithiasis. The mineral levels were at par in all the groups. During the last week of experiment, a metabolic trial for 3 days was conducted and the retention of minerals was studied. It was at par in all the groups.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135688564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So the need to formulate high-quality fish feed that suits the needs of fish increases. Lemna sp. is a water weed that can be used as an alternative ingredient for fish feed. This is because Lemna sp. has a high content of nutrients. A high crude fibre content in vegetable ingredients causes one of the obstacles to use as fish feed ingredients. However, this can be overcome by processing feed ingredients using the fermentation method. With the help of fermenter solutions, the fermentation process can produce simple combinations. This makes it easier to decompose than before. The fermentation procedure can affect the nutrient content of nutrients in Lemna sp. with flour and molasses and probiotics during the three-day incubation period is the best fermentation procedure. Aquatic contamination is a result of waste product discharge and anthropogenic waste runoff. The environment has turned into a repository for chemical contaminants that seep into estuaries and other aquatic environments, immobilising the aquatic biota, including heavy metals. Heavy metals like chromium can be both helpful and destructive to living things. It is both highly carcinogenic and poisonous. Chemical contaminants are released into the water by numerous enterprises. Chromium is among the many contaminants present in these disposals. Because Channa punctatus is a readily available and popularly consumed freshwater fish, it was selected as the test species. The experiment was conducted over the course of 28 days in 4 distinct aquariums, 3 of which contained chromium at various concentrations (Group 2-LC 50 /5; 20 mg/l, Group 3-LC 50 /10; 10 mg/l, and Group 4-LC 50 /20; 5 mg/l), and one aquarium (Group 1) served as the control. With an increase in the concentration of the heavy metal, the exposed fish exhibited more irregular swimming and became sluggish. Moreover, chromosome damage induced by chromium exposure increased the production of micronuclei in the interphase cells and increased the toxicant concentration. The findings indicated that acute chromium toxicity has a significant negative impact on normal histology of brain, genotoxicity and normal behaviour, which may be harmful to the fish population and ultimately to humans who eat fish.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"488 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85584086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
