The study of physicochemical characteristics and ichthyofaunal diversity were carried out during January 2024 to December 2024. The physicochemical characters of water found suitable for drinking as well as fish culture. Till date the scientific data on ichthyofaunal diversity not carried out. So, it is attempted to make the study on ichthyofaunal diversity of this dam. For one year study, in the present study, 23 species of fresh water fishes were collected from Tulsi dam and distributed in 6 different order 12 families and 13 genera and presented in Table-2. Among this, Cyprinidae family was dominated with 11 fish species and contributed 48%, followed by Siluridae 1 species with 4%, Bagridae 4 species with 18%, Channidae 2 species with 9%, Gobidae 1 with 4%, Anabantidae 1 species with 4%, Chichlidae 2 species with 9%, and Mastacembelidae was 1 with 4% The data were obtained during study were discussed with recent literature and summerised in table 1 and 2.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"13 4","pages":"120-123"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.fisheriesjournal.com/archives/2025/vol13issue4/PartB/13-4-11-804.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147906329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fishery resource of South West Khasi Hills District is very vast and roughly comprises of 345.97 km of rivers and streams, 0.5 ha of beels and 205.65 ha of ponds and tanks. The district is well-rich in terms of fauna diversity. Four selected areas of fish sanctuaries are being studied within the district. Results reveals that the fish production has increase and it has reached about 624.63 metric tons as in 2023-2024, and the fish seed production from 2016-17 to 2023-24 is 9,590,820 numbers from both fry and fingerlings, higher production of fish seed was noted in 2023-2024 at around 22,40000 numbers of fish seed was produced. The present of fish sanctuaries in the district has increase the availability of fish species and increase fish production.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"13 4","pages":"40-48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.fisheriesjournal.com/archives/2025/vol13issue4/PartA/13-3-48-128.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147918334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Indian Himalayan region (IHR), characterised by its diverse streams, rivers, and lakes, host both exotic trout species and indigenous Mahseer, making them ideal locations for anglers. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Northeast area of India have ample fishing prospects, with numerous streams, rivers, and lakes that yield significant catches. The development of sport fishing in these regions might strengthen local economies, provide employment, and enhance adventure tourism. However, overfishing, pollution, and habitat degradation are significant risks to sport fish populations; highlighting the need for sustainable management strategies to ensure their long-term survival and continuation of this popular leisure activity in the Indian Himalayas.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"13 3","pages":"108-114"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.fisheriesjournal.com/archives/2025/vol13issue3/PartB/13-3-6-767.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After preparing the first ever checklist, there are now 46 species of freshwater fishes known to exist in this river, representing 46 species from 38 genera, 21 families, and 8 orders. A total of thirty-six fish species were determined to fall into the Least Concern category. The pie chart displays the proportion of species that fall into each threat category. Approximately 82% of fish species are classified as Least Concern, 12% as Near Threatened, 3% as Vulnerable, 2% as Endangered, and 2% as Data Deficient. Overfishing, pollution, deforestation, habitat alteration mainly as a result of dam construction across rivers, intensive aquaculture, competition from invasive species, etc., are some of the contributing factors.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"13 2","pages":"218-222"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.fisheriesjournal.com/archives/2025/vol13issue2/PartC/13-2-33-300.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147905579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
