The study was carried out for a 6 months period running from July to December 2022. The fish specimens used for the study was obtained through catch statistics at the three major landing sites of the study area. The sites were sampled twice monthly for fish species. Sampling was by: Direct observation of the Fish species and gears at the landing sites. Fish identifications as well as measurement of weight and number of fishermen were taken. The results showed that Gill net (Taru), Cast net (Birgi), Lift net (Akauji), Longline (Rincha) and Malian trap (Gura/Malia) are the most preferred fishing gears used by fishermen in Upper Benue River Basin at Mayo Ranewo; the results further revealed number of fishers in the 6 months study period ranged between 13 to 22 while the efforts (fishing hours) ranged from between 17 to 29 hrs/day. The average weight of fish caught per fisher per day ranged between 16 to 26 kg. September and October have the highest Catch Per Unit effort range of between 19.36 and 20.30 kg/hr while the lowest catch per unit effort is recorded in August with range of between 11.28 to 12.78 kg/hr. These findings have important implications for the management of River Taraba fishery, and can be used to inform policies and regulations to ensure the sustainability of the fishery. Therefore, this study recommends that fishers are encouraged to adopt more sustainable fishing practices, such as avoiding sensitive areas or using less harmful gear.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90714266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal was to assess their effects on fertilization and hatching rates through the stripping method. Brood fish were administered Gonopro-FH and Ovaprim to stimulate ovulation, and the impact on fertilization and hatching rates was closely monitored. Ovaprim outperformed Gonopro-FH, showing higher fertilization (82%) and hatching rates (76%). The study also explored embryological development, revealing that Ovaprim resulted in fewer malformations in eggs, potentially leading to healthier offspring. Overall, Ovaprim proved more effective for inducing breeding in common carp through the stripping method, offering higher hatching and fertilization rates compared to Gonopro-FH. These findings are vital for the aquaculture industry, providing valuable insights into sustainable and efficient common carp reproduction using hormone-induced breeding techniques","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86673299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 258 fish specimens consisting of 9 species belonging to 7 families were procured by fishermen between March and August, 2021 with the use of cast net. Fish samples were examined, dissected and parasites were removed, identified and counted by employing standard techniques in parasitology. A total of 49 out of 258 collected fishes were infected with ten different parasites with an overall prevalence of 22.9%. The recovered parasites include four cestodes (30%), two digenetic trematode (23.23%), one monogenean, (1.01%), one acanthocephalan (8.08%), one secernetean (32.32%) and one nematode (5.05%). Generally, parasitic prevalence was not size dependent and the female fishes were observed to be more parasitized than male (p˃0.05). The mean intensity and abundance of parasites were higher in the stomach and intestine than the gills. Fish parasitism is one of the major problems facing fish production and could be sustained with high degree of pollution as indicated in this study. Hence pollution control and regular examination of the water bodies should be advocated to prevent low fish performance and production.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76973859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research location was carried out in the coral reef area of Pulo Suwalan in the coastal area of Rembang Regency. This research used a survey method. The study research showed that the Pulo Suwalan coral reef area was in the shallow water zone. The depth of the waters at the study site ranges from 0.5-8 m. The bottom morphology of the waters is flat to almost flat. It is known that 81.25% of the bottom substrate in the site location is silt and 18.75% is sand-smooth. The Pulo Suwalan coral reef area has the potential to become a location for installing fish apartments based on the degradation of the environment and the depth of water.","PeriodicalId":14048,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83794063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
