It is widely distributed in many African countries including Sudan and it is traditionally been used as abortifacient, for pneumonia, fungal infections, as contraceptive, mosquito repellent and anti-diabetic. This study was aimed to identify morphology of whole plant and microscopic characteristics of the root, stem, and leaf and powder microscopy to support its botanical pharmacognostical characterization. Morphological and microscopic study was carried out using fresh and dry whole plant, the root, stem and leaves. The results of present macroscopic and histomicroscopic features of root stem and leaves of S. hermonthica and powder microscopic were reported which may provide useful information for the regulatory aspects of the quality control measures of the crude drugs.","PeriodicalId":14019,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants","volume":"71 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84014197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The widespread use of herbal remedies and healthcare preparations is described in the Vedas and the Bible. Medicinal Plants have been used for thousands of years to flavour and conserve food, to treat health disorders and to prevent diseases. Awareness of medicinal plants usage is a result of the many years of struggles against illnesses due to which man learned to pursue drugs in barks, seeds, fruit bodies, and other parts of the plants. Active compounds produced during secondary metabolism are usually responsible for the biological properties of plant species used throughout the globe for various purposes, including treatment of infectious diseases. The microbial growth in diverse situations is controlled by plant derived products. Almost every portion of the plant has own medicinal properties. The traditional medicinal uses of some plants species belonging to different families and general overview of the medicinal plants are reported in this review article.","PeriodicalId":14019,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78933841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment was conducted Wondo Genet, Ethiopia for three consecutive years to optimize the essential oil yield and water use efficiency of Lemongrass. Three levels of deficit irrigation and furrow application method were used. The study revealed that the maximum Lemongrass essential oil yield of 55.12 kg ha-1 was obtained from no deficit irrigation with conventional furrow application method while the minimum oil yield 36.03 kg ha-1 obtained from 50% ETc (Evapotranspiration of crop) under fixed furrow application method. The optimum lemongrass essential oil yield 100% ETc under alternate furrow application method which is statistically similar to the maximum oil yield. Statistically, the highest water use efficiency was obtained from 50% ETc under alternate furrow application method. Therefore, the optimum Lemongrass essential yield can be produced under alternate furrow application method with 1005 ETc which provides the water use efficiency of 0.041 kg m-3.","PeriodicalId":14019,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants","volume":"64 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91015520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cancer is a global problem which is widely affecting the world. Plant derived natural products have gained much importance in the field of cancer chemotherapy during the recent past and the search for new drugs for cancer treatment still continues. Andrographis paniculata (Brum. F) Nees, a highly recognized plant of traditional Chinese and Indian healthcare system has gained the consideration of researchers for cancer cure. A. paniculata has multiple possible pharmacological actions. This review reports detailed information on major phytochemicals, traditional applications, pharmacology, and methodology of phytochemical purification from A. paniculata. Its major active phytochemical Andrographolide have shown significant anticancer properties. The plant is widely distributed found throughout India especially in the coastal areas. It is extensively used in traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Homoeopathy, and Unani. It is regarded as a valuable remedy for the treatment of numerous ailments in Indian traditional plant medicine. It is a unique medicinal plant used in conventional medicine because all plant parts have therapeutic properties. The plant has been reported to hold several pharmacological and medicinal properties such as anticancer, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, antimalarial, antimicrobial, antipyretic, antifertility, anti-inflammatory and antimalarial etc. C. bonduc seeds contain cassane diterpenoids like caesalpinins and caesalmins, as well as norcassane diterpenoids such norcaesalpinins. Cassane diterpenoids (e.g. taepeenins A-L) and norcassane diterpenoids (e.g. nortaepeenins A & B) have been isolated from the stems, roots, and seeds. Leaves include phenolic acids such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, and gallic acid. This species has been found to contain numerous biologically and pharmacologically relevant bioactive secondary metabolites with unique structures and diverse mechanisms of action, which may entice pharmaceutical companies to produce novel therapeutic formulations based on herbal methods. With more research, it is possible to infer that C. bonduc could become the most acceptable source of medicine in the future for an array of illnesses. As a result, this review aims to provide a full overview of ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of C. bonduc.","PeriodicalId":14019,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants","volume":"13 1","pages":"1-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78725601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
