The healthy immigrant effect (HIE) is a phenomenon that should be explored as many African immigrants lose their HIE on adoption of the ‘American lifestyle’. Family medicine practices in the US encounter a significant African immigrant population from different African countries, which is an underserved population. Highlighting their health issues will enable the family physician to become aware of their unique needs and manage these patients in their clinical practices. African immigrants tend to be viewed as ‘all from Africa’ when indeed Africa is a continent with 54 countries. Some of these unique health problems, though suffered by Americans may be differently manifested and therefore may require special management. Africans continue to migrate to the US and family medicine practitioners that are the first point of contact need to be educated to holistically manage them. Barriers to seeking health care and issues of physician patient relationship are important areas that also need to be explored in this special population.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"107 1","pages":"44-49"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78066946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Slip boundary conditions are applied on the two plates and vanishing couple stress condition at the boundaries is assumed. The upper plate is suddenly moved with time dependent velocity while the other plate is fixed. The problem is solved analytically in the Laplace domain through the use of Laplace transform technique. The inverse transform of the fluid velocity is obtained numerically. The velocity profiles for different times and different physical parameters are plotted and the numerical results are discussed.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"66 1","pages":"85-92"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89191450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is primarily caused by asymmetry information between doctor and patient since in most cases patients heavily rely on nonverbal communication as a tool to get information they need. Patient’s sensitivity to the nonverbal communication is generally varied in according to their demography characteristics. This research is aimed at analyzing the effect of non-verbal communication to the patient satisfaction with respect to different demographic perspectives. The research was carried out in the inpatient of selected hospitals in the Makassar city of Indonesia involving 420 respondents taken using proportional stratified random sampling technique. The research design is quantitative research using a cross sectional study design with questionnaires as the instrument to collect the data. The result of the study showed that the sixth variables of nonverbal communication (artifact, haptic, kinesics, chronemics, proxemics, and vocalic) significantly influence patient’s satisfaction. However, the result of the partial test showed different effects of each nonverbal communication variable to the patients based on the age categorize, gender, ward, ethnics, education level, and occupation.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"10-23"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75409817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods:70 Libyan children from Pediatrics Department, Faculty of Medicine, Benghazi University, Benghazi, Libya were included for the present study (from 2013 to 2014). Group I formed the normal control group (N: 30 Children) and Group II is 40 Libyan children with asthma. Their age group varied from 4 to 12 years old. Serum lipid profile and leptin were measured by routine standard methods. Results and discussion: The Libyan children with asthma showed an increase in serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, VLDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Serum Leptin levels did not show marked changes between the two groups. The presence of hypercholesterolemia could be a triggering factor for generation of proinflammatory response in these children. Though leptin levels did not show marked response further studies may be necessary to study the role of leptin in obese asthmatic Libyan children.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"109 1","pages":"93-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77841145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2013, an estimated 9.0 million developed TB and 1.5 million died from the disease, 360,000 of which whom were HIV positive. Tuberculosis is still a major problem in advanced countries due to specific socioeconomic factors. From a global perspective, many laboratories use the same methods today that were in use long time ago for the detection of tuberculosis, because most of innovative current technologies for the detection of tuberculosis incurs high cost and cannot be afforded for all the countries. The detection of tuberculosis remains a challenge from the point of diagnosis and confirmation and there is a growing need of accurate diagnosis process. In this research, an ontology based classification of tuberculosis laboratory tests, environmental factors and other vital signs are studied along with support vector machine for the diagnosis of the tuberculosis disease. Through this method, we are able to measure of the weightage of the disease, the future onset of the disease and produce, an alert. Ontology based classification is widely used for knowledge based information grouping and structuring while SVM is used for accurate and fast machine learning algorithm. By combining Ontology and the training data based on various characteristic of the tuberculosis are passed onto linear SVM. The results we are able to achieve with this method are helpful for diagnosis support and future onset.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"37-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84518469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to assess the patient satisfaction for primary care before and after the transition of health care system in Turkey. Methods: The study included a sample of 588 patients from three public family health centers (FHCs) in Adana. The study was conducted between March and April 2008 and May and June 2009. The patients were asked to assess their family physician based on their contact experience before and after the health care system transition in Turkey. Results: Overall satisfaction was %74.6 before and %93.5 after the transition (p=0.0001). The “Organization of care” was evaluated as the most improving dimension. However, the “Medical care” change was the worst rated. “Providing quick services for emergency health problems”, “Knowing what s/he had done or told you during contacts” “Preparing you for what to expect from specialist or hospital care”, “Being able to speak to the general practitioner on the telephone”, “Getting through to the practice on telephone” and “Helping you deal with emotional problems related with your health status” were evaluated as improving items (p=0.0001). Conclusion: Patient evaluation of care can contribute to make practices and their teams more responsive to patient’s needs.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"4 1","pages":"1-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90211771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted over a period of two years as Cross-Sectional in Sub-Urban South Chennai. The variables on demography and Stress were collected by Personal Interview method in a pre-structured standardized questionnaire after a pilot study. The main findings showed 856 (81.5%) women had experienced Stress, where 54 (5.1%) had Severe Stress. Women with Abdominal Obesity ≥0.85 [χ2= 11.9(P=0.001)] and from the Nuclear family [χ2= 16.9(P=0.000)] had a significant association with the Stress Outcome. There existed an insignificant difference in the mean Stress scores between the women age less than or above 30 years. The homemakers were equally experiencing stress with their counterpart women who were bound to work outside home. Family History of Couple misunderstanding, Ill Health of family member and Major Mortgage also showed significant difference in their mean stress levels by Student-t-test. The maximum mean difference in stress scores was identified by multiple comparison Post-Hoc Pairwise LSD test between the women who completed 10 and 15years of education (P=0.000). We conclude that the ‘Women with Stress and at Risk of developing further Illness’ should be identified at the earlier age for health assistance for a better life.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"39 1","pages":"187-196"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73879059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this relationship is still a matter of conjecture and speculations and awaits definitive proof. Recently, myoid cells have been considered as effectors in the pathogenesis of MG as well as thymic enlargement (thymolipoma, true thymic hyperplasia). Material and methods: we report a retrospective study about 6 cases of thymic enlargement with 4 cases of true thymic hyperplasia (TTH) and 2 cases of thymolipoma (TL). Aim: Our objective is to discuss the role of myoid cells in the pathogenesis of MG associated with thymic enlargement. Results: The majority of our patients were men with a sex ratio of 4/2. Only 2 patients had a past medical history consistent for MG. Myoid cells were found in all cases. Conclusion: Through our small study, the implication of myoid cells in the pathogenesis of the association MG-TL or TTH remains unproved.","PeriodicalId":13971,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Health Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"136-140"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76974200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In relation to the above mentioned, then the application of public health program are need to be taken into mind, because of based on that there will be the variations of role of health and medical profession in the many differences of occupations. Method & Discussion: this paper is made based on library studies that compile from many data which hopefully can be used to construct the right of scientific writing in the context of public health sciences in relation to the General Medicine. Result & Discussion: quite clear that there are many public health aspects that need to be taken into policy in relation to clinical aspects, health financing aspects, health economic aspects, and the like which in general it will come to at least the understanding of primary health services and secondary health services functions. There is a need to develop the real and perfect program of the General Physician who can be used to support the Primary Health Centre. It means that what the Indonesian need to be implemented is not only the health financing program, but also the right Medical Education Program, the right Family Medicine Program, the right Primary Health Care, the right Population Health Care, and so on.
