The method involves a mixed-integer formulation to properly control the operations of gas boilers and cogeneration systems at the central heating station. A novel modelling method for the district heating networks is also proposed, where temperature dynamics are directly learned from data through the identification of piece-wise affine models. The developed approach ensures that proper temperature levels are always provided to all users, meanwhile minimizing the network heat losses, and enabling cogeneration systems to optimally participate to the Day-Ahead Energy Market. The optimization system has been designed considering a real district heating network in the Milan area and first experiments on the real plant have been carried out. The economic evaluations are satisfactory, leading to significative energy saving and a consistent reduction of CO2 emissions and gas consumption.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117218069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the difficulty to solve non-linear optimization problems with discrete variables, the decoupling of the active and reactive powers issues is proposed. The two resulting problems interact iteratively. A Security Verification (SV) problem is solved to identify the generation deployment in terms of real power constraints: branch flow security constraints, primary/secondary frequency control constraints to correctly identify required regulation bands and minimum inertia are here considered. The proposed linearized models are validated against real grid behavior on representative test networks. The SV solution is given to AC OPF, to optimally deploy reactive power resources.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114689990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This context determines the need to expand the group of resources which can offer voltage and frequency regulation services. In the premise of the Horizon 2020 OSMOSE project Work Package 5, technical characterization of vRES resources providing voltage regulation is investigated by involving two wind power plants (one of which integrates a storage systems) located in Basilicata. In addition to retracing the voltage regulation typical requirements and the implementations realized on the plants in order to allow the service provision, this paper means to offer a first glance at the abovementioned experimentation and first results. Such a tool is essential to properly study the increase in interaction between the energy systems that will result from the installation of power-to-gas units, which thanks to their flexibility are expected to help the power system in facing the drawbacks coming from the increase of penetration of non-programmable renewable sources. Power- to-gas devices consume electricity to produce hydrogen by means of electrolysis and, by the methanation process, which consumes also CO2, synthetic methane can be obtained, to be injected in the gas system. A test-case scenario for the Italian 2030 power and gas systems has been defined with the main purpose of showing the features of the new simulation tool.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121613973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A PFC boost converter test vehicle has been adopted to compare them at different gate resistance and load current to analyze their mutual effect on the performance of the device. The results highlighted that the switching energy reduction in 4-lead MOSFETs increases as the load increases. This advantage also intensifies as the gate resistance increases. Another interesting aspect that arose from the analyses is that the two packaging solutions present the same damping of the oscillation although the higher switching speed of the 4-lead solution involves greater current derivative, overcurrent and oscillations amplitude which could cause more EMI issues.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124967528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this market, the expected value of the total payment by the independent system operator is minimized by using particle swarm optimization algorithm. By using the developed stochastic reactive power market model, the impacts of synchronous generators’ forced outage rates on reactive power market’s cost has investigated. Numerical studies have been performed on the IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System (RTS). The results evidenced that the lower the forced exit rate of the units, the lower the cost paid by the independent operator of the system to settle the reactive power market.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":" 17","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120827928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, to unlock the potential of such resources, a coordinated operation between transmission (TSO) and distribution (DSO) system operators is needed. The methodology of flexibility region estimation well fits such need, since it allows to calculate active and reactive power that can be aggregated and released from the DSO to the TSO at the interface point, without violating any steady-state distribution grid constraint. This paper investigated the feasibility of implementing a flexibility region estimation routine based on formulation of an unbalanced three-phase optimal power flow (TOPF), suitable to deal also with LV resources and unbalanced distribution networks. The methodology is tested considering the detailed representation of a portion of an Italian distribution grid, comprising about six hundred MV/LV buses. The availability of both active and reactive flexibility resources has been considered.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134205814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, due to their architectural and historical value, are often adopted for public functions. Moreover, also when they have a private use, such structures may have great prominence for the tourism and economy. As a consequence, an increasing request of preserving such patrimony has been expressed by the society and has given impetus to research activities in this field. One of the most important aspect of this research is the acquisition of detailed information to improve the knowledge level of these structure which affects the accuracy of the subsequent analysis and, thus, the correct design of required interventions. Thus, the proper choice of the investigation techniques represents a key step for the accurate evaluation of the safety level of the structure. Several procedures are available, and the criteria for their optimal selection are still debated. The present paper deals with these issues, by discussing the limits and advantages of several available methods for monitoring of masonry historical structures. To this aim the case study of the bell tower of Trani Cathedral in Apulia (Italy) has been chosen. This structure can be considered as an example of a widespread architectural and historical typology in Italy. An extensive experimental investigation has been performed by adopting three different methods which are here compared and discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"558 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133412786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It starts with an evaluation of the gain in terms of power efficiency with respect to the traditional diode rectification bridge. Then, a selection guide of the active device is made, based on the device’s datasheet, to highlight the key parameters for a MOSFET and link these parameters to their impact on the converter. At the end, a critical aspect of the active bridge is analyzed, that is the inrush current phenomenon, and occurs each time the converter is activated. This particular working condition is analyzed both electrically and thermally, to show the capability to handle these phenomena by a SuperJunction MOSFET.","PeriodicalId":138886,"journal":{"name":"2021 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114234981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
