Most rudimentary horn are non functional and some are attached to the functioning contralateral horn by means of fibrous bands. If the endometrium lining the cavity of the non communicating rudimentary horn is is functional ,retention of menstrual blood causes cyclic abdominal pain and spillage of blood into the abdominal cavity via the tubal ostium may lead to endometriosis.Sometimes a narrow communicating channel exists between the rudimentary horn and the opposite uterine cavity.Under these circumstances pregnancy is possible,most of the patients present with symptoms suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy including of uterine rupture causing catastrophic bleeding and circulatory collapse.We present a similar case where laparotomy was done thinking of ruptured ectopic pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"7 1","pages":"366-368"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87444006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Study was conducted with objective to study different clinical presentations of post-inflammatory hypopigmented macules, age and sex distribution, socioeconomic status, natural course, seasonal incidence, commonest to rarest variant amongst all etiologies and to do a detailed histopathological study of such lesions. 100 patients presenting with post-inflammatory hypopigmented macules were considered and detailed history and general examination was done. Certain specific Lab investigations and histopathological study was done in selected cases. The study showed amongst all varied etiologies of post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, commonly observed in dermatologic practice were Tinea Versicolor, Leprosy, Pityriasis Alba, Mechanical and thermal injuries, Allergic contact dermatitis, Morphoea, Discoid lupus erythematosus, Stevens Johnson syndrome and Psoriasis. Commonest age group affected was in 21-30 years of age. Males (62%) outnumbered females (38%) grossly. People of lower socioeconomic status (57%) presented with post-inflammatory hypopigmentation, commonly. Upper limbs and face and neck region were the commonest sites involved. Commonest etiology amongst all cases was Tinea Versicolor, followed by Leprosy, Pityriasis Alba and thermal burns. The study concludes that post-inflammatory hypopigmentation is a self limiting disease, presenting with varied clinical manifestations, more common in young adults with male preponderance, commonly seen in people of lower socioeconomic group with a family history of similar disease in not more than 30%. Upper limbs and face and neck is the commonest sites of involvement and histopathological diagnosis correlates well with clinical study in most of the cases.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"39 1","pages":"355-358"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78559945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radiation induced haematological alterations in peripheral blood was studied; mice were treated with RUT (10mg/kg.b.wt.) and QRT (20mg/kg.b.wt.) once daily for five consecutive days and exposed to 7.5 Gy of gamma radiation after the last administration. RUT and QRT treatment before exposure to 7.5 Gy of gamma radiation resulted in a significant (p<0.01) increase in cellular components of blood at various post-treatment time points when compared with the respective irradiated groups. Irradiation of mice reduced the spleen colony forming units in the spleen and the number of spleen nodules was inversely related with the increase in radiation dose. The potent antioxidant nature of RUT and QRT mitigate the oxidative stress induced by gamma radiation and thus protect the mice from hemopoietic damage.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"401 1","pages":"310-317"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76618214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Iatrogenic neuropathy caused by Metformin induced B12 deficiency can add to burden of peripheral neuropathy that already exists in diabetic patients. Aims and Objectives: 1)To determine the serum vitamin B12 levels in patients of type II DM on metformin therapy and compare it with those not on metformin therapy; 2) To correlate serum vitamin B12 levels with dose and duration of metformin therapy; 3) To investigate association between peripheral neuropathy and serum vitamin B12 levels. Method: The present two year hospital based cross sectional study enrolled total 132 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus and divided into two groups, (metformin group 70 and non-metformin group 62). Serum vitamin B12 levels were measured in all patients. Toronto clinical scoring system (TCSS) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests were used to assess peripheral neuropathy. The correlations of vitamin B12 levels with Toronto clinical score, nerve conduction studies, cumulative dose and duration of metformin therapy was done. Results: The serum vitamin B12 levels were significantly lower in patients who consumed metformin (292.64 152.82 pg/ml) as compared to non-metformin, (406.91 126.59 pg/ml) group. There was a significant negative correlation of serum vitamin B12 levels with cumulative dose and duration of metformin therapy. The incidence of neuropathy by TCSS and NCV test was significantly higher in metformin group with a positive correlation with cumulative dose and duration of metformin and a negative correlation with serum vitamin B12 levels. Conclusion: Metformin use is significantly associated with decrease in vitamin B12 levels and increased incidence of neuropathy, this is dependent on dose and duration of metformin therapy.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"321-326"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89053687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several anatomical and functional maneuvers can be performed to estimate the difficulty of endotracheal intubation. We aimed to elucidate the role of upper lip bite test (ULBT), hyomental/thyrosternal (HMD/TSD) distances, the mandible length (ML) and their correlation in predicting difficulty intubation in relation to laryngoscopic view as per Cormack Lehane (CL) grading. Methods: After institutional approval informed consent obtained from160 consecutive patients aged between 20 to 60 years of ASA grading I and II scheduled for elective surgical procedures requiring tracheal intubation and meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled in this study. Each patient was evaluated regarding ULBT, HMD, TSD, ML. Larngoscopy was assessed and findings were graded according to Cormack and Lehane's grading system. Results: The above study states the Negative Predictive Value (NPV) and Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of ULBT were found to be 86.7% and 94.5% respectively. Specificities of ULBT, HMD, TSD and ML were found to be 98.6%, 97.8%, 96.4% and 97.8% respectively. Diagnostic accuracy of ULBT, HMD, TSD, ML were found to be 93.8% ,88.1% ,84.4% and 91.3% respectively. Conclusion: It concludes that high specificity, NPV, PPV and Accuracy of ULBT as revealed in this study could be good rationale for its application in the prediction of difficulty or easiness in the intubation.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"318-320"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90194645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An increase in body fat is generally associated with an increase in risk of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and dyslipidaemia. Prevalence of childhood and adolescent obesity is further adding the severity. Therefore, any measures that could prevent or delay the development of diabetes are urgently needed. The present study is focused on early detection of the occurrence of Diabetes so that its control can be more effective because of early intervention. Materials & Methods: 50 people with increased blood sugar levels of age group of 16-20 years of both the sexes are selected randomly as subjects and 50 people with normal blood sugar levels are randomly selected as control group . Primary data of all the subjects like name, age, sex, occupation, address etc., are obtained as per the proforma. Calculation of Body Fat Percentage (%BF) involves measuring of skin fold thickness at four sites. Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated from Height and Weight of an individual. Results: The mean value of BMI in Diabetic group is found be 25.64Kg/m 2 (SD 2.22), while in Non-Diabetic group it is found to be 23.35Kg/m 2 (SD 3.95). The mean value of %BF in Diabetic group is 18.20 (SD 1.62), while in Non-Diabetic group it is found to be 17.36 (SD 1.41). The mean values of RBS in Diabetic group are found be 157.98mg/dl (SD 30.37) and 120.66mg/dl (SD 21.44) in Non-Diabetic group. Discussion: In the present study, we observed the correlation of increased subcutaneous fat with increased plasma glucose levels. Increased subcutaneous fat is considered to be an aggravating factor for early development of diabetes. Increased subcutaneous fat is also responsible for increasing the severity of diabetes there by, worsening the condition of the person. By knowing the body subcutaneous fat, the chances of occurrence of diabetes can be known.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"2 2 1","pages":"337-340"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83490806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, this success is marred by gender inequality. The majority of family planning acceptors are women. Method : The study (1) explores male narratives on male contraceptives and male perceptions of their risks and benefits; (2) identifies the factors affecting male decisions about contraception; and (3) shows how men negotiate and discuss contraception with women if at all before making decisions. The study was conducted in Bandar Lampung (Lampung) and Kulon Progo (Special Region of Yogyakarta). A total of 30 participants, consisting of married men who received a vasectomy, married men who used condoms, sexually active unmarried men who used condoms, and married men who did not use contraceptives were interviewed in depth. In addition, focus group discussions (FGD) were conducted involving stakeholders in each region. Results: That men who used contraceptives experienced positive changes after receiving information and support from their peer group. Men who use contraceptives start off with views (myths) similar to those of the surrounding communities. Gender equality perspective was a key factor affecting contraceptive decision-making among men. Discussion: that male perception of male contraceptives, especially vasectomy, is in flux. Negative prior to use, it gradually transforms into positive after men experience the benefits. Male decisions to use contraceptives are determined by their perceptions .","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"292-299"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74150867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Fifty human cadavers (24 males and 26 females) were dissected and the level of bifurcation and its anatomical variations of CCA were noted and results were analyzed statistically. Results: The level of bifurcation of CCA at the superior border of thyroid cartilage was noted in 68 % of cases while higher and lower level of bifurcation was seen in 22% and 10% of the specimens respectively. High and low level bifurcation of CCA was highly significant on right side compare to left. Conclusion: The bifurcation of common carotid artery need not always be at the level of upper border of thyroid cartilage. It can be at either higher or lower in origin, higher being more common. The awareness in the variation of bifurcation level is necessary to avoid undue complications during the surgeries and procedures done in head and neck region.","PeriodicalId":13848,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biomedical and Advance Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"300-303"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84183570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
