Nonzero quantum discord has interesting and significant applications because although non-zero entanglement guarantees the existence of quantum correlation in a bipartite quantum system, zero entanglement does not guarantee the absence of a quantum correlation. On the other hand, many quantum optics systems can be described as deformed quantum oscillators. In this work, we investigate the quantum discord of bipartite entangled nonlinear coherent states, in the context of the so-called f-deformed coherent states algebra. To calculate the quantum discord, we consider quasi- Werner mixed states bases on bipartite entangled f-deformed coherent states. Two explicit analytic expressions are derived for the quantum discord of two different nonlinear deformed coherent states. The first one considers deformed coherent states obtained as eigenstates of the annihilation deformed operator, and the second one is obtained by using a deformed displacement operator. The synthesis of this surfactant in labs need to optimize the rate of spreading in the alveolar interstitial liquid obtaining a monolayer of the phospholipids membrane base capable to maintains several of the dynamical properties of the respiratory system during breathing. The recover of theses mechanical properties has to be archived using the minimal quantities of product and with the optimal proteins composition (SP-B in special). The fiber core consists of a 1.1 μm highly germanium doped step index waveguide surrounded by a pedestal of 3.5 μm diameter. The outer diameter of the fiber is 125 μm. A short stub of ~2 mm is used in the fabrication of the interferometer. The highly germanium doped fiber is spliced between two standard SMF. In one of the splices both fibers are ideally aligned, in the other splice a small misalignment between the fibers is done. An annealing process is made for 5 hours at 850°C which results in a good operation stability up to 700°C. A wavelength shift as a function of temperature of 76 pm/°C is reported. To demonstrate the interferometer efficiency, a fiber Bragg grating is written in the highly germanium doped core and tested for temperature response. A temperature sensitivity of 13pm/°C was demonstrated. The interferometer fabrication requires only a few and easy steps. Due to the standard splices made between the fibers, the device is robust. The emergence of new protocols and their actual implementation have even motivated the development of new quantum optical schemes. A key issue when teleporting a quantum state is establishing the quantum channel between sender and receiver stations, usually done by manipulating an auxiliary bipartite entangled state. The purpose of the present work is to study quantum teleportation processes in which that state is an entangled bipartite photon-added state, and the Adhikari et. al. continuous-variable quantum teleportation protocol is applied. Photon-added states can be generated using different experimental techniques, such as parametric down-conversion in a nonlinear crystal, and conditioned parametric amplification. These states are relevant because they exhibit generalized non-classical features for all orders of creation and annihilation operators, and may even show phase squeezing and sub-Poissonian distribution statistics. An integral numerical method was applied to determined the bandgap structure of the system and the intensity field of its electromagnetic modes. We found that the variation of the ripples amplitudes allow to control at a certain degree the photonic band structure of the system. Although initially considered the medium inside the waveguide is vacuum, we also discuss the case of a dispersive metamaterial medium. We found interesting band structures that contains regions of nearly zero-dispersion and bandgaps for TM polarization. {"title":"Light pollution and solid-state lighting: reducing the carbon dioxide footprint is not enough","authors":"S. The pressing need of reducing the carbon dioxide emissions as well as of lowering the lumen•hour price tag has fostered the search for alternative lighting technologies to substitute for the incandescent and gas-discharge based lamps. The most successful approach to date, solid-state lighting, is already finding its way into the public lighting market, very often helped by substantial public investments and support. LED-based sources have distinct advantages: under controlled coditions their efficacy equals or surpasses that of conventional solutions, their small source size allows for an efficient collimation of the lightbeam (delivering the photons where they are actually needed and reducing lightspill on the surrounding areas), and they can be switched and/or dimmed on demand at very high rates, thus allowing for a taylored schedule of lighting. However, energy savings and carbon dioxide reduction are not the only crucial issues faced by present day lighting. A growing body of research has shown the significance of the spectral composition of light when it comes to assess the detrimental effects of artificial light-at-night (ALAN). The potential ALAN blueshift associated to the deployment of LED-based lighting systems has raised sensible concerns about its scientific, cultural, ecological and public health consequences, which can be further amplified if an increased light consumption is produced due to the rebound effect. The reflection spectra were obtained using a Spectral Analyzer Fibersensing Bragmeter FS2200SA in regular time intervals, as the stress applied to the laminates is continuously increased until fracture occurs. They initially show a typical Bragg grating reflection spectrum, which gradually changes into more complicated, multiple-peak spectra, resulting from a non-homogenous strain distribution along the board line. Based on these results, a model was derived for the variation of the grating effective index which fits the observed spectra when the irregular strain distribution is observed. This model consists of usual cosine description of Bragg grating effective index with linear phase variation, plus a logarithmic phase change along the fiber length, resulting in the increment of the grating wavelength with increasing distance from the load application point. This study was designed to establish the accuracy of two osmometers, a freezing point depression osmometer (Fiske 110) and an electrical impedance osmometer (TearLab™) by using standard samples. To assess the accuracy of the measurements provided by the two instruments we used 5 solutions of known osmolarity/osmolality; 50, 290 and 850 mOsm/kg and 292 and 338 mOsm/L. Fiske 110 is designed to be used in samples of 20 μl, so measurements were made on 1:9, 1:4, 1:1 and 1:0 dilutions of the standards. Tear Lab is addressed to be used in tear film and only a sample of 0.05 μl is required, so no dilutions were employed. Due to the smaller measurement range of the TearLab, the 50 and 850 mOsm/kg standards were not included. 20 measurements per standard sample were used and differences with the reference value was analysed by one sample t-test. Fiske 110 showed that osmolarity measurements differed statistically from standard values except those recorded for 290 mOsm/kg standard diluted 1:1 (p = 0.309), the 292 mOsm/L H2O sample (1:1) and 338 mOsm/L H2O standard (1:4). The more diluted the sample, the higher the error rate. For the TearLab measurements, one-sample t-test indicated that all determinations differed from the theoretical values (p = 0.001), though differences were always small. For undiluted solutions, Fiske 110 shows similar performance than TearLab.
