The lubrication characteristics of the extruded film, including load-carrying capacity, liquid flow and surface elastic deformation, were obtained through the simultaneously iterative solution of the fluid-governing and deformation equations.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The results show that the hydrodynamic pressure is approximating parabolically and symmetrically distributed in the contact area, and the peak value appears in the center of the extrusion surface. Elastic deformation increases the thickness of the liquid film, weakens the bearing capacity and homogenizes the liquid flow rate of inside soft friction contact. The magnitude of this effect greatly increases as the initial liquid film thickness decreases. Moreover, the elastic deformation directly affects the average film thickness of the extrusion contact. The purpose of this study guides the design of micropore structure to realize the rapid exudation of oil to the porous surface and the rapid repair of the lubricating film.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Design/methodology/approach</h3>\u0000<p>In this paper, cylindrical orifice, convergent orifice and divergent orifice were studied. The numerical model of lubricating oil exudation in micropores was established. The distribution characteristics of oil pressure, velocity and three-phase contact line in the process of oil exudation were investigated. The effects of different orifice shapes and orifice structure parameters on the pinning and spreading characteristics of oil droplet were analyzed. Then the internal mechanisms of oil droplet formation and spread on the orifice surface were summarized.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The results show that during the process of oil exudation, the three-phase contact line of the oil drop is pinned once at the edge of the cylindrical and convergent orifice. Compared with the three orifice structures, the inlet pressure of the oil drop is low, and the oil velocity at the pinning point is stable in the divergent orifice. Resulting in favorable oil exudation. It is easier for oil droplet to depin by appropriately reducing the wall wetting angle, increasing the aperture or controlling the wall inclination angle. Ensure the self-healing and long-lasting lubrication film of porous oil-bearing surfaces.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Practical implications</h3>\u0000<p>The effect of pore structure on the flow behavior of lubricating fluid has always been concerned. But the mechanism by which different orifice shape affect the pinning behavior of oil droplets is not yet clear, which is crucial for understanding the self-healing mechanism of oil films on porous surfaces. It is meaningful to analyze the mechanism of oil exudation and spreading on the porous surface of oil in the special orifice, to optimize the design of the orifice structure.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>Orifice shape has influence on internal flow field parameters. There is no report on the influence of orifice shape on the film formation process of oil seepage and diffusion from pores. This study aims to elucidate the wear mechanism of parallel groove clamps under wind-induced vibration through simulation and experimentation.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Design/methodology/approach</h3>\u0000<p>FLUENT software was used to simulate the flow around the conductor and the parallel groove fixture, and the Karman vortex street phenomenon was discussed. The stress fluctuations of each component under breeze vibration conditions were investigated using ANSYS, and fretting experimentations were conducted at varying amplitudes.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The results demonstrate that the impact of breeze vibration on the internal stress of the parallel groove clamps is considerable. The maximum stress observed on the lower clamping block was found to be up to 300 MPa. As wind speed increased, the maximum vibration frequency was observed to reach 72.6 Hz. Concurrently, as the vibration amplitude increased, the damage in the contact zone of the lower clamping block also increased, with the maximum contact resistance reaching 78.0 µO at a vibration amplitude of 1.2 mm. This was accompanied by a shift in the wear mechanism from adhesive wear to oxidative wear and fatigue wear.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the fretting wear phenomenon associated with parallel groove clamps under wind vibration. The purpose of this paper is to find a way to enhance the surface performance of high-nitrogen steel, which is expected to improve the wear resistance of high-nitrogen steel.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Design/methodology/approach</h3>\u0000<p>The CoCrNi and CoCrFeNi medium-entropy alloy (MEA) coatings were prepared on high-nitrogen steel substrate by laser cladding technology. The microstructure, phase composition and element distribution of the fabricated coatings were investigated using scanning electronic microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and X-ray diffraction. The phase structure, phase stability and structural stability of the CoCrNi and CoCrFeNi MEAs were investigated in combination with phase diagram calculation and molecular dynamics. Then the wear tests were carried out for coatings.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The results show that both prepared MEA coatings have good quality and contain a single face-centered cubic phase. The wear performance of MEA coatings is improved by the refinement of grain size and the increase of dislocation density. Due to the addition of Fe atoms, the lattice distortion of the CoCrFeNi system increased, resulting in a higher dislocation density of the coating. Cr atoms in the CoCrFeNi system are the largest, and the local lattice distortions induced by them are greater. Through this study, MEA coatings with high hardness can be expanded to drilling field applications.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>CoCrFeNi and CoCrNi MEA coatings were successfully prepared on the surface of high-nitrogen steel for the first time without obvious defects. The micromorphology and grain orientation of the different kinds of coatings were discussed in detail. Reciprocating friction and wear tests, followed by mechanistic analysis, examined the combined tribological effects of microtextured surfaces and lubricants.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The numerical simulation outcomes reveal a significant augmentation in the influence of fluid dynamic pressure due to composite microtextures, consequently amplifying the load-bearing capacity of the oil film. The average friction coefficient of composite microtextured samples was approximately 0.136 in reciprocating pin-on-disk friction tests, representing approximately 17% decrease compared to polished samples. Triangular guide rails with composite microtextures demonstrated the lowest average coefficient under conditions of high-speed and heavy-loading in the reciprocating friction and wear tests. Additionally, the presence of composite microtextures was found to promote the formation of adsorbed and friction films during friction, potentially contributing to the enhancement of tribological properties.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>Triangular guide rails face high friction and wear, limiting their stability in demanding applications like machine tool guideways. This paper proposes a novel approach for steel triangular guide rails, involving composite microtexturing, numerical fluid simulations, liquid-assisted laser surface texturing and friction-wear testing. By implementing composite microtextures, the method aims to reduce friction coefficients and extend guideway service life, thereby saving energy and reducing maintenance costs. The different viscous oils 5W30, 15W40, 20W50 and SAE140 are used. These investigations provide a theoretical basis for the high performance of printed and postheattreated SS316L.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Design/methodology/approach</h3>\u0000<p>Tribological tests were carried out on selective laser melting-made SS316L printed specimens and heat-treated specimens. The parameters in 15 min of test duration are 20 N of load, 200 rpm, 8 mm of pin diameter, 25 mm length, 80 mm of track diameter and EN31 counter disc body. This work presented the phenomena of lubrication regimes and their characterization, as identified by the Stribeck curve, and these regimes affect the tribological properties of additively manufactured SS316L under the influence of industrial viscous lubricants. The results are observed using Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and wear tests.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>The observations indicate that additively manufactured SS316L shows a reduced coefficient of friction (COF) and specific wear rate (SWR). This is credited to the utilization of different viscous lubricants.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>This exclusive research demonstrates how various viscous lubricants affect the COF and SWR of printed and post-heat-treated SS316L parts.
