It explores the intertwining of gender and colonialism and how they collectively shape these women's lives. Central to this analysis is the role women played in resisting colonial oppression, examining their navigation and challenge of patriarchal structures within their societies under colonial rule. This research highlights the strategies Algerian women employ to assert their agency and preserve their cultural identity amidst the oppressive forces of colonization. Furthermore, the paper delves into the complexities of identity formation within a postcolonial context, examining the impact of colonialism on women's bodies and psyches. The study also critiques the subversion of traditional narrative structures in Djebar's autobiography, emphasizing the incorporation of alternative voices and perspectives that highlight the often marginalized experiences of Algerian women. Djebar's primary goal is to give voice and visibility to women's experiences, which have been largely overlooked in texts that explore the relationship between colonized people and their history. {"title":"Derivation of Verbs from Loanwords in Arabic According to Arabic Derivational Paradigms","authors":"Reima Al-Jarf","doi":"10.32996/ijahs.2024.4.1.9","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32996/ijahs.2024.4.1.9","url":null,"abstract":"A sample of 186 loanwords with derived verbs in Arabic was collected and analyzed to explore how these verbs are derived from loanwords; part of speech of the derivable source loanwords; which derivational verb patterns are followed; why verbs are derivable from some loanwords but not from others; and the constraints imposed on the derivation of verbs from loanwords. Data analysis revealed that some loan verbs remain as they are when borrowed in Arabic (comment, update). In 41%, the derived verbs in Arabic are an Arabization of the verbs in the doner language. In 59%, Arabic speakers derive a verb from loan nouns for which no derived verbs exist in the doner (source) language. In 12% of the loanwords, two verbs are derived which follow adifferent derivational patterns, with a different meaning and transitivity. The derived verbs in the sample follow nine Arabic derivational patterns regardless of the source language. A root consisting of 3, 4 or 5 consonants is extracted from the loan word, with vowels added in between. 82% follow five quadri-consonantal paradigms and 16% follow three quinque-consonantal paradigms. The most productive paradigm is فعلل /fa؟lal/ CVCCVC (Afghanize > أفغن/?afɣan/ (VT, make Afghani in character or nationality); Amalgamate > ملغم /malɣam/; Americanize > أمرك /?amrak/ (46%). The second most productive paradigm is فعّل /fa؟؟al/ CVCCVC (19%) as in Gypsum> جبّس/dʒabbas/ (VT); hacker> هكر /hakkar/ (VT); hang>هنج /hannag/ (VI); Latinize>لتن /lattan/ (VT). The quinque-consonantal paradigms تفعلل /tafa؟lal/ CVCVCVC is used in 9% of the loanwords as in democratize > دمقرط/damaqraT/ (VT). The tri-consonantal paradigm is the least productive (2%) as in Ekleipsis (Gr) eclipse>كسف /kasafa/ (VI). All derived verbs herein conform to the Arabic phonotactic and morphotactic systems and are frequently used in daily speech. The same strategies for  creating augmented verbs are used in all native but many loanwords. Verb derivation from nouns as countries is feasible but not used, and for others, it is not possible and is counter intuitive to extract consonants to form a root. It examines the impact of various governance structures like the Mayor-Council and Council-Manager. The research uses data from surveys of 1,201 local governments in the United States. The results show that cities with a Council-Manager system are more likely to offer ESL and housing assistance. They often work with nonprofit organizations to provide these services. In contrast, municipal governments with a County Commission structure are less involved in ESL and housing assistance. These findings suggest that the way a city is governed has a big impact on public services. This affects how cities are run and their policies. Effective school discipline practices help students make wise decisions and focus on their studies. School discipline refers to rules and strategies to manage student behavior and practices to encourage self-discipline. Along with education, students must adequately learn discipline in school because, with discipline and good values, the holistic development of the students will be protected. This study determined the students’ level of compliance with the University policies on students' appearance and discipline to provide an empirical basis for improving the discipline management system currently used by the University. The study utilized the descriptive-survey method of research using a researcher-made survey questionnaire based on the students' manual. The research study was participated by 1,390 respondents who were randomly selected first-year to fourth-year college students from the College of Teacher Education, College of Social Work, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Criminal Justice, College of Customs Administration, College of Business and Accountancy, College of Information Technology and Computer Studies and College of Hospitality Management. Furthermore, based on the study's findings, most students fully comply with the university policies on students' appearance and discipline. Guo Xi, a painter and theorist of the Song Dynasty, proposed “The San Yuan Method” (means three artistic principles: high, far-reaching and flat), which was compiled into a collection by his son and included in Lin Quan Gao Zhi (the elegance of the bamboo and spring), becoming an important theoretical work in the history of Chinese painting. This article will start from the theoretical foundations of \"high\", \"far-reaching\", and \"flat\" and use specific text analysis and theoretical exposition methods to analyze the painting characteristics of Chinese landscape painting influenced by the \" San Yuan Method\". Employing methods from art history, social art history, literary analysis, and intellectual history, the study aims to explore the connections between Fragonard’s artistic philosophy, the social context of 18th-century France, and the cultural trends of the time. The paper investigates Fragonard’s response to Enlightenment and rationality through his paintings. The results indicate that, situated in an era oscillating between Rococo and realistic styles, Fragonard’s works provide a glimpse into the social and cultural milieu of late 18th-century France. Driven by the spirit of reason, Fragonard created a series of landscapes and genre paintings. Forty Arab peer reviewers responded to a survey with open-ended questions. The responses were sorted out and classified according to 10 categories. The most common problems facing reviewers can be summarized as follows: papers sent for review have linguistic and methodological weaknesses. The evaluation standards/benchmarks vary from one periodical to another and from one institution to another. The reviewers vary in efficiency experience, caliber, and meticulousness. The majority of reviewers are lenient and have an inadequate background in their field. The amount of time taken in the review and publishing process is long. Some journals do not state clearly the reviewing and publishing policies, do not have an evaluation form, do not mention the characteristics and percentage of accepted research articles to authors, reviewers, and the public, the areas of specializations covered by the journal, and have a limited number of specialized and qualified reviewers. Their narratives reflect a constant battle to challenge patriarchal structures and establish a democratic \"imagined community\" where women are recognized and celebrated. The female voice rises, and the dominant father is reduced to invisibility as these writers assert their presence and subvert traditional gender roles. This study aims to explore how Moroccan women writers depict the father-figure in their polemical and fictional works. It scrutinizes how they have effectively portrayed the father as a formidable force challenging emancipation. The paper also examines the different manifestations of the father-figure and the various relationships these women writers establish with this pivotal element in their narratives. He provides a rhetoric of satire that has enabled him to touch upon some uneasy and disturbing facts of his society, yet maintaining an uncensored and immune position to deplore. Therefore, the present study intends to investigate in depth the multilayered style and satirical wit in the novel based on Menippean satirical rhetoric of inquiry and provocation, play and display, employing Dustin Griffin’s interdisciplinary notion of satiric discourse.
