Furthermore, the approach for achieving that will be done in the form of a living lab. So the research presented here will be to proof and to tune different technological standards and technologies considered “green”, in a large experimental context of a Robotic Village. The research topics associated with it will be related with the increase of the energy efficiency in different daily areas and how they will contribute to the objectives of 2020 agenda from the UE, of reducing human impact on climate change. One of those research areas is the Smart Way, where technological challenges of the EV, the automation in road infrastructure building and the interoperability of road management and transportation systems will be gathered in order to boost a progressive variation of current transportation model. Concretely, the studies and developments necessary to achieve an increase in energy density and service life, reduced recharge times and price decrease will be carried out.","PeriodicalId":134818,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129809550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These changes include the addition of a data acquisition system and a modular control system that will be adaptable with changing components. The majority of this paper discusses the need for the bus to climb 25% grades, and how battery chemistry significantly affects hill climb performance. An equivalent capacity LI battery pack weighs 1620 kg less than the current LA battery pack. This corresponds to a reduction in required traction motor torque by 557 Nm and a peak power reduction of 132 kW. The weight reduction correlates to a reduction of the gear ratio by one, in the transmission. Therefore, the LI battery pack allows the bus to go up a 25% grade hill, without experiencing a significant drop in vehicle performance.","PeriodicalId":134818,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference","volume":"372 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123355006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, a control strategy that actively manages the energy flows on board must take into account these aspects. This paper analyzes how road grade influences the battery discharge rate in a light electric vehicle, and how a State-of-Charge tracking policy needs to be modified to ensure the desired performance in the face of uphill and downhill parts of the route. Both simulations and experimental results are provided to support the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":134818,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127333395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller is set up to ensure two main functions: braking with anti-skidding and traction control using the electric motor torque as the unique actuator signal source. Unlike the torque generated by classic internal combustion engines, the torque of electric motors is available almost instantaneously. In addition, it can be measured on-line, which means that advanced control techniques can be applied. In order to generate the appropriate anti-skid or anti-slip torque for each wheel, one has to estimate the friction between the wheel and the road. In the first step, the instantaneous friction coefficient and the maximum friction coefficient between the wheel and the road are estimated, without prior knowledge of the road conditions. Next, the approach relies on a feedback sliding mode control scheme to ensure the vehicle is operated in the maximum friction zone in both hard acceleration and braking phases, along with a given reference speed to track. The only variables used in this strategy are the wheel acceleration, the instantaneous torque generated by the electric motors and the chassis acceleration.","PeriodicalId":134818,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126019957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A combined optimal charging and optimal power management approach is used to rigorously quantify the optimal CO2 reduction impact. This approach produces results that show that inclusion of any amount of wind power on the grid results in reduced CO2 from transportation. The results also account for the temporal variation in wind power. Furthermore, since it is not practical to implement a different control strategy for days with different amounts of wind, we quantify the loss of optimality resulting from this variability in wind.","PeriodicalId":134818,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115191380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
