This work examines the applicability of the radiofrequency exposimeters (RFExs) in the identification and evaluation of radiofrequency EMF exposures in the indoor medical environments. It was experimentally confirmed that inter-device differences in the sensitivity to continuous sinusoidal EMF are at the level of their calibration uncertainty and that inside the MRI chamber RFExs at FM band may be used in monitoring of pulsed modulated EMF exposure from 3T MRI scanner. Inside MRI chamber, it was also found by multi-band REFxs recordings that the emission from wireless link (WiFi) between medical devices and emission from MRI scanner may be the subject to multi-path propagation producing localized hot spots of EMF level.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132656412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The RFID reader was modelled as a loop antenna (35x35cm) emitting an EMF at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. A multi-layer ellipsoidal model of the implant user was used for the numerical calculations of SAR. It was found that the use of a bone conduction hearing implant may significantly increase the level of localised SAR values in the head of the implant user, caused by exposure of EMF from RFID HF readers. The use of such a hearing implant may be a contraindication for the stay near RFID readers, or the application of RFID HF devices in medical technologies used by implant users.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124052233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The test was done under blind test conditions, consisting of five stages, including control and exposure stages, each lasting for two minutes. The exposure took place in two stages. The results show, the average heart rate increased due course of the test (p=0.003). In addition, the total power of the heart rate variability (HRV) was statistically significantly lower during exposure stages than control stages. High frequency component of HRV decreases due course of the entire test (p = 0.014).","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129352080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reports in-vitro dielectric properties of human trabecular bone samples obtained from osteoporotic and osteoarthritic patients. The measurements were performed by using open-ended coaxial probe technique. The study further focuses on intra-femoral head variation of dielectric properties within two patients, and inter-disease comparison of bone dielectric properties between osteoporotic and osteoarthritic patients. The results suggest that dielectric properties significantly vary between different parts of femoral head within each patient and mean relative permittivity of osteoarthritic patient is higher in magnitude when compared to osteoporotic patient. The difference is observed more in relative permittivity profiles of each patient’s bone samples than conductivity profiles.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127912827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We applied harmonic excitation signals with identical frequencies, but the resulting magnetic flux density of the applied electromagnetic field was set to lower values. The reasoning for the mentioned approach lies in the partial verification of the ion parametric resonance (IPR) theory but also to confront possible errors stemming from the application of inhomogeneous electromagnetic fields – which could be one of the reasons for discrepancies encountered between various research groups.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124420412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensation and the pain thresholds as well as the adverse effects were recorded for anodal tDCS, cathodal tDCS, tACS at 6 Hz, 10 Hz, 20 Hz and 40 Hz administered to healthy participants via sponge electrodes placed at AF7 and AF8. The lowest sensation thresholds were found for 10-40 Hz tACS. The pain thresholds less than 2.0 mA were reached only with anodal tDCS in a few participants. Mild prickle, itching, tickling or tingling were referred by all participants for all kinds of stimulations with current thresholds highly scattered. Feelings of burning or tingling were observed in more than half participants mostly for anodal tDCS. Phosphenes were referred by most participants with tACS even for very low currents.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124098642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the cases of small targets, such as adrenal glands, microwave thermal ablation is a valuable alternative to the traditional and more invasive treatments (e.g. surgical procedures, pharmaceutical therapies). In this work, ablation treatments are carried out on ex-vivo liver samples using a custom developed microwave ablation applicator for ablation of small targets. Ablation zones achieved with different treatment settings are analysed. The power and time settings suitable to achieve a small and well controlled ablation zone, are evaluated.
