However, published results are often inconclusive and even contradictory and experimental conditions are not comparable. To formulate unambiguous conclusions they must rely on the results obtained using the same procedures and experimental conditions at different levels of organization within one model. In this paper we present an example of our experiments carried out on insects which are the most suitable for comprehensive study.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123624765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyzed the excitation thresholds for three such waveforms, varying their timing parameters. Their thresholds were compared to the threshold of the monophasic waveform having the same active pulse duration. The results show that pseudo-monophasic thresholds are considerably higher than those of monophasic waveform having the same pulse duration for the shorter pulse durations, but tend to equalize towards long pulses, where it becomes practically irrelevant whether the waveform is purely monophasic or pseudo-monophasic. This case study was performed by computational nerve modeling and simulation using SENN (Spatially Extended Nonlinear Node) nerve model.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121202528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During treatment, antenna settings often need to be adapted in response to normal tissue hot spots or disappointing tumor temperatures. Empirical determination of the best system settings is difficult. The progress in treatment planning over the past decade presently allows its use to assist in adjustment of antenna settings. This paper describes the progress and future perspectives of treatment planning-guided steering during locoregional hyperthermia.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122474108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current achievements in surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeting therapy are still not effective and the disease remains one of the most lethal malignancies. The improvement of glioma treatment efficacy is desired. Aim of our studies was to investigate viability changes in H4 glioma cell line induced by low frequency pulsed electromagnetic field (LF-PEMF; 7Hz, 30mT) exposure, analyzed by flow cytometry. Obtained results have found out, that LF-PEMF stimulation of H4 glioma cell cultures induced apoptosis in exposed cells.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131550881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For head and neck hyperthermia, we earlier found that more tissues are required for an accurate representation. Hence, we studied the accuracy of the clinical tissue segmentation (4 tissues) using a full detailed tissue list segmentation (80 tissues) as benchmark. The SAR and temperature distributions were evaluated and relevant differences were found. Also, the large and unknown variation in blood perfusion results in a large uncertainty in the predicted temperature distributions. In summary, this study showed that the number of tissues segmented is relevant for both SAR and the temperature prediction accuracy.","PeriodicalId":134768,"journal":{"name":"2018 EMF-Med 1st World Conference on Biomedical Applications of Electromagnetic Fields (EMF-Med)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130028612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
