Following this trend, this paper presents a family of PWM soft-single-switched converters which, having only a single active switch, are able to operate with soft switching in a pulse width modulation way without high voltage and current stresses. In addition such converters can work at high switching frequencies for a wide range of load. In order to illustrate the operating principle of these new converters a detailed study, including simulations and experimental tests is carried out. For the design of the controller, a nonlinear control technique based on differential algebraic methods is applied. The resulting controller produces an input-output linear stable system. The traditional method uses the cascade triac-single output transformer-diode bridge. The triac firing angle control allows the precise adjustment of the power transferred to the battery. The other, less precise method uses a transformer with as many outputs as the number of power steps. The outputs are connected via mechanical switches or relays. The first method has the drawback of exceeding the harmonics level stated by the EN61000.3.2. The second one generates less harmonics, but it becomes more and more difficult to construct the transformer as the number of outputs increases. Hence, the number of power steps is limited. The purpose of the circuit proposed is to put together the advantages of the two previous strategies. The paper presents an efficient, robust and easy to implement fuzzy-logic controller for a PWM AC/DC power converter with high power factor. This type of converter exhibits strong nonlinear behaviour and requires complex gating patterns, difficult to be analytically derived. A special new environment, written in CPP language, has been developed around the PSPICE kernel in order to provide design and simulation facilities. Two fuzzy logic based control strategies were designed and investigated using this original simulation environment. The closed-loop system was tested through extensive simulation experiments and exhibited good transient and steady-state behaviour. However, the switched reluctance motor has a drawback in that it generates acoustic noise. This study aims to minimize the acoustic noise of a 8/6 switched reluctance motor with sum of the square of the phase currents and variable structure system (VSS) with sliding mode control (SMC) methods in the linear region and in presence of mutual inductances. In this study, the torque ripple of switched reluctance motor has been greatly removed and the acoustic noise has also been reduced. Sliding mode control techniques have been applied to switched reluctance motors in this study and successful results has been obtained. The results show that the sliding mode control is effective in reducing the torque ripple of the motor, compensating for the nonlinear torque characteristics, and making the drive insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances. The command strategy presented in this paper consists of feeding the motor with three-phase sinewave currents. The torque ripple at low speed is considerably reduced. Moreover, the reference currents of the motor are optimised by the use of a correction factor in such a manner that the ripple torque is minimised in steady-state conditions. The correction factor is stored once off-line and can be used on-line for any application. The principal differences between these methods are that PBC does not require state observers or estimators, requiring thus a reduced computational effort, and DFOC require all states measurements, hence, the inclusion of an observer or an estimator is needed for practical implementation. The comparison shows controller yields in satisfactory speed regulation, and load disturbance rejection. The topology of the circuit is a full-bridge parallel resonant-converter that switches at fixed frequency, and incorporates a pulsewidth modulation (PWM) method to control the output power. Expressions are provided that are fundamental for the design and the understanding of the operational principle. With a proposed lamp model and using it as the load of the inverter, the circuit operation is analysed.
