It is acknowledged that one major weak point is their parameter sensitivity. This paper investigates the application of a recursive parameter identification (RPI) method to the online estimate of the electrical parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The availability of well-approximated values increases the robustness of the EKF, and leads thus to superior performances of the drive.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124708629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper deals with a flexible parts array system for arraying parts by providing three-dimensional vibration to a parts tray which has relief forms designed to trap the parts in the desired orientation. There will be a unit supplying parts employing a matrix-structured parts box storage rack and enabling 18 parts to be supplied in order to easily cope with model change. In addition to this, a vibratory unit which uses two pairs of unbalanced masses is introduced for precise and stable three-dimensional vibration using controls of the rotating speeds of the unbalanced masses and the relative angles between unbalanced masses. The beating effect frequently used in arranging relatively complicated and heavy parts is theoretically examined and verified through experiment.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128235192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Active filters have been used as a solution to this problem. The main prohibitive factor in this method is the cost of high-speed and high-current switching devices. In this paper, by proposing a new formula, it is shown that using multilevel inverters in active power filters can decrease the switching frequency while sustaining the same specific performance. A fuzzy space-vector method is also developed for controlling a three-phase multilevel active filter. The simulation results confirm the suitable performance of the filter using this control method.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129948509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new branch of research-called Reconfigurable Computing-is investigating the application of reconfigurable logic. One main obstruction to the widespread use of reconfigurable logic is the lack of high level modeling techniques. Modeling reconfigurable systems for automation systems needs defined concepts. Since the implementation may be not well defined at the system level, it will be necessary to model the behavior of the reconfigurable part of the system. In this paper we present concepts to model behavior of automation systems and ways to implement it. Our modeling methodology is based on SDL and VHDL. Our implementation concept is based on function blocks.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130143930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existence of heterogeneous traffic flows entails the use of different network topologies to support the different kinds of traffic. Communication between field devices in a single control cell, i.e. between sensors, actuators and control devices (PLC) is supported by FieldBus networks. In an industrial process control and measurement system (IPCMS), control cells do not operate in an isolated fashion, but their activities are strictly correlated and need a continuous exchange of information. This exchange is supported by bridges which interconnect various FieldBuses. Because of the presence of various bridges, a variable that has to cross several bridges may accumulate an excessive delay which may cause the associated deadline to be exceeded. In this paper, the authors propose the slot swapping protocol (SSP), a new protocol for the interconnection of FieldBus networks. They describe the architecture of the system and the mechanisms used by the SSP protocol, based on the idea of slot-swapping. Although the solution proposed provides for totally distributed management of access to the ring, it guarantees that each FieldBus will transmit messages to other FieldBuses within the time limits set for each message, overcoming the limits of interconnection by means of chains of bridges.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132461271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These techniques are specially appropriated whenever the system model is nonlinear and/or difficult to obtain. Is it viable to use fuzzy logic in faster \"real time\" applications? Is it interesting to use these techniques even when the system model is known (including linear cases)? The authors are trying to answer some of these questions by applying fuzzy logic to control electrical machines. In this paper, they use a slip control scheme for a three-phase induction motor fed by a voltage-source PWM inverter as an example. The evaluation of the fuzzy logic controller behaviour is made through the comparison with a traditional technique (PI controller with antiwindup mechanism), using computer simulation (performed with Matlab/Simulink) and experimental results. Implementation was made using the fuzzyTECH software tool to design the fuzzy logic controller and to produce C-code for an Intel 80C196KC microcontroller. An 1 kW three-phase induction motor fed by a voltage source IGBT power module was used in the experiments.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126712759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

WWW browsers display text, graphics, video, audio and data in open and proprietary formats. Forms convey input from the user to the server. Video and form-based feedback in the WWW allow remote control and teleoperation over the Internet, taking advantage of the relatively cheap, ubiquitous bandwidth and advanced user interfaces. The authors present a scheme to distribute multiple realtime video and data streams from a variety of sources and the interface to the controlled equipment. WebVideo for Windows and UNIX are server programs to send video from various sources (cameras, RGB-instrument-output, bitmap displays, computer generated animations) in many formats (RGB, RGB-RLE, JPEG, GIF) to multiple client browsers at the same time. The WebVideo server measures the available bandwidth and generates individual videostreams. To optimize performance, they introduce the CE/SC (Component Encoding/Stream Composition) mechanism to build multiple individually coded videostreams while the computationally intensive video compression is performed only once.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126716388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the work was to provide investigators of the textile area with hardware and software to ease the investigation on the dynamical behaviour of the following sewing parameters: force on needle bar; and presser-foot and thread tensions. It should also have enough flexibility to incorporate further signal entries, and provide the user with tools to ease the gathering and analysis of tests on different materials, sewing speeds and machine configurations and settings. Outputs for actuators to implement closed-loop control strategies are also available. The paper presents an overview of the system, which is a development of earlier hardware and software and focuses on the results concerning the measurement of the force on the needle-bar; this parameter is important to investigate needle penetration force in fabrics during sewing. Several signal-processing algorithms, that aim to automate the detection of some characteristics, are described. The purpose of this system, that implements some novel strategies, is to develop an add-on kit to apply to different sewing machines, but presently it has been implemented on a PC as a quality assessment system which will be used by textile technicians to build a quality database.","PeriodicalId":134474,"journal":{"name":"ISIE '97 Proceeding of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122200553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
