This \"just in time\" switching controller samples the output voltage and two line input currents, to provide bidirectional power flow, near unity power factor operation, input currents with low harmonic content and fast dynamic response of the output voltage. Simulation results are presented and the performances compared with the behaviour of the conventional proportional integral (PI) output voltage control, aided by inner loops for the PWM current mode modulators. Comparison with other sliding mode alternatives, suggested elsewhere for these PWM rectifiers, shows that this proposal has faster dynamics and does not present steady state errors. Duration and amplitude are the parameters that have been normally used to classify voltage sags. This paper proves the necessity to include the point-in-wave of voltage sag initiation to explain the impact of sags on the behavior of AC contactors. The experimental setup used to obtain the results is described in detail. Several experiments are presented that describe the effects of point-in-wave on the performance of AC contactors. It allows the precise and quick control of the IM flux and torque without calling for complex control algorithms. In principle, moreover, it requires only the knowledge of the stator resistance. The tutorial starts by reviewing the basic operation of an IM and of a PWM inverter using the space vector theory. The field-oriented (FO) control of an IM drive is also reviewed. Then the concept of DTC is illustrated and three DTC-based strategies [i.e. switching table (ST), direct self control (DCS), space vector modulation (SVIM)] are described. The ST strategy is dealt with in detail, discussing the results which can be obtained with different choices of the switching table. Problems associated with the selection of the amplitude of the hysteresis bands of the flux and torque controllers are illustrated by means of experimental data. Such currents, generated by fast variations of common mode voltage, must be suitably limited in order to improve the reliability of modern drives and to reduce electromagnetic emissions. This is normally achieved by means of low pass filters, but at the cost of increased costs and sizes. An alternative inexpensive approach consists in using specifically designed modulation strategies. In the paper a new digital PWM modulation strategy is introduced able to reduce common mode currents by limiting the amount of common mode voltage variations. Fiber optics are used to guide the light, which allows it to reach difficult places and allows one to make measurements from a distance. The most significant problem is that light emitted in the phosphorescence process has a very low intensity and contains important noise. Thus, it is necessary to maximize the emission (maximizing the excitation) and to filter it. The best ways to optimize the light source are discussed and a simple method to filter the response is proposed. Control action is used to achieve tracking performance for a state feedback linearizable but unknown nonlinear system. We show that indirect adaptive schemes will learn how to control the plant, result in bounded internal signals, and achieve stable tracking for a reference input asymptotically. The multilayer neural network (NN) is used to approximate given plant to any desired degree of accuracy and generate the feedback control. Based on the error between the plant output and the desired output, the weight-update rule of NN is derived to satisfy Lyapunov stability. A projection method is employed so that NN weights are bounded. It is shown that all the signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly bounded under mild assumptions. The initialization of NN weights is straightforward. This method includes three features: (i) it is not necessary to input some kinds of fuzzy rules to the servo system before starting auto-tuning operation, thus, the fuzzy rules can be automatically produced in logical process learning; (ii) knowledge and information about the system parameter tuning technique are not required; and (iii) both high speed response and robustness can be obtained. The learning of inverse dynamics with neural networks is an example of robot control applications. The dynamics of nonlinear systems vary with their parameters, and, in some cases, determining a single global model of the plant dynamics can be a very difficult problem. Designing piecewise control laws are useful methods to overcome this problem. In robotics, increasing the degree of freedom and working range of each link directly creates more complex dynamics. The structure of a multilayer perceptron is dependent on the controlled plant and, for more complex systems, large networks are required and this increases the real time calculations of robot control. For the proposed scheme, in order to decrease the real time calculations, the working range of the robot is divided into several regions and, for every region, a separate neural network is used. Instead of learning whole dynamics with one large network, using this kind of strategy, one divides the complexity of the dynamics to small networks. The numerical static optimization method for identification of the system mathematical model was used. The influence of the excitation signals and of the conditions of supply and load on identified parameters of the system was analyzed. An approximation of changes in motor parameters of the motor mathematical model with the use of polynomial functions has enabled the adaptive control with \"gain scheduling\" (open-loop adaptation) on the basis of an offline parameter identification. The experimental investigations were carried out on a laboratory model of an inverter-fed induction motor drive.
