Using complex circuits, however, requires higher modeling effort. Finding the parameters of complex models often falls beyond the capabilities of analytical methods and therefore more sophisticated techniques are required. The present paper is specifically concerned with a novel tool that uses a genetic algorithm for the calculation of the parameters of complex equivalent circuits in order to represent the specific transient recovery voltage required for a particular generator circuit-breaker application. The parameters of complex equivalent circuits can be chosen to accurately represent the behavior of actual machines. These circuits can be then used to calculate the transient recovery voltages modified by the capacitors of a generator circuit-breaker.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114269740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work presents two new energy models: i) retrofit of the present energy system in a public library building; ii) improving energy efficiency in public lighting using new technological solution Light Emission Diode (LED), new methods of control and management while leveraging the use of renewable energy as power supply. Both can act as a vehicle to disseminate concepts of Smart City (SC) and Internet of Things (IoT), also, as the development of energy production based on renewable energies: biomass and sunlight. With these two proposals it is intended to improve energy efficiency behaviours reducing energy waste, making use of the latest techniques and equipment, which promote more efficient management. This will lead to an effective reduction of energy consumption associated with public lighting while maintaining recommended levels of luminance in different situations. Finally this research is also to complete, a long-term goal of the EU, which is to develop a society that better uses their energy systems and, in Portugal, increase the use of available renewable energy sources.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126807748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, if BCJR's forward alpha coefficients are continuously recomputed instead of stored in memory, it can be shown that the space complexity will drop to O(m). However, ensuring a good Quality of Service (QoS) in the transmission of such data over ADSL is challenging due to channel impairments such as noise and crosstalk. Moreover, given that the total monthly fixed data traffic is increasing at a phenomenal rate, (QoS) management is becoming a crucial issue. This paper proposes an enhanced transmission scheme for audio over ADSL. The proposed scheme exploits the unequal importance of the subbands generated by an MP1 codec to offer varying protection to them during ADSL transmission. This is achieved by multiplexing the bit streams from the subbands before Discrete Multi-tone Modulation (DMT) so that bit streams corresponding to more important subbands are offered higher protection than the least important ones. Additionally, a sophisticated retransmission protocol is proposed which allows frames from more important subbands to benefit from a greater number of retransmissions than least important ones. The retransmission protocol uses eight different Negative Acknowledgement (NACK) packet types which allow adaptive multiplexing of frames at the transmitter. The proposed Unequal Error Protection (UEP) scheme provides an average gain of over 28 dB in Segmented Signal to Noise Ratio (SSNR) over a conventional Equal Error Protection (EEP) one but incurs a negligible loss in throughput.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126623519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When NMF is formulated as a nonlinear programming optimisation problem some algebraic properties concerning the dimensionality of the factorisation arise as especially important for the numerical resolution. Its importance comes in the form of a guarantee to obtain good quality approximations to the solutions of signal processing image problems. The focus of this work lies in the importance of the rank of the factor matrices, especially in the so-called posrank of the factorisation. We report computational tests that favor the conclusion that the value of the posrank has an important impact on the quality of the images recovered from the decomposition.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123766033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presented algorithm has been created as MATLAB-based application and verified its function for 2 different structures displayed in midbrain - substantia nigra and raphe nucleus. The processing and analysis is based on measuring of their echogenicity level from the principle of B-MODE. The results also was verified and rated by an experienced sonographer. The second part is focused on implementation of the algorithm on embedded system ARM Cortex-M4 which allows to create an independent hardware computing unit connectable to an ultrasound machine. Sonographers could evaluate pathological issues directly with no loading images to a computer. We selected ARM platform due to its performance, low consumption and hardware scalability. Communication from MATLAB is realized via serial port RS232 and loading the source code into microcontroller of ARM CPU. All reached results have been investigated and verified by the experienced sonographer with statistical analysis of reliability and reproducibility (correlation, kappa and ROC). This analysis verified successful reproducibility of the algorithm in clinical practice to early diagnostic.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123555519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modification proposed in this paper is useful for real time spectrum sensing applications in which the SOM is used for classification tasks. Three alternative SOM topologies were tested and compared with the proposed topology modification. The number of epochs needed to ensure the convergence of feature maps was reduced by about 20 times using the proposed topology modification. An experimental investigation was performed using an SOM-based spectrum sensor on two radio bands with different spectral characteristics. The modified SOM topology showed not only a faster convergence, but also a better emission detection performance comparing to hexagonal, grid and rhombus topologies.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124667508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The profile specification is based on the UML class diagram extension that exploits operation signature for the representation of specific relational database concepts, such as single and multi-column primary and foreign keys, indices, etc. The advantages of the proposed approach are: reduction of additional properties in the stereotypes representing the keys, better visualization of database constraints and more efficient forward database engineering. We also present the corresponding profile implementation as an open source development platform plug-in, which allows manual modeling, as well as the automatic (software/program) generation of a relational database scheme in accordance with the defined profile. The application of the implemented profile is illustrated by an example of visualization of a particular relational database schema.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131204786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
