This study has aim to explore the image of the city of Banten Lama based on visitors' visual perception. The research method uses visual perception method with a rating rating of 14 Landmarks (tetenger) selected based on case selection. Respondents consisted of 40 visitors. Data gathered and analyzed through field measurements supported by structural physical figures. The research results show that first, when the study was conducted, the temperature in Gurusina exceeded the lower and upper limit of the average temperature that was considered comfort hot for Indonesians. This affects the high heat transmission through wall material so that the inside temperature is considered uncomfortable. Second, the use of half wall (exceeding 20% of the floor area) and the existence of open space around the building that has the potential to flow the wind with a speed of more than 2m/sc, can reduce the indoor heat temperature due to solar heat transmission from wall and roof materials.</p><div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p><span>Key words: </span><span>thermal comfort; building envelope; traditional house </span></p></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>","PeriodicalId":133023,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Livable Space","volume":"277 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127552683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept of Smart City is needed to ensure the conditions of a habitable City in the context of rapidly growing urban population growth. The urgency of this challenge prompted many cities to begin to find smarter ways of managing urban areas. One way to make the concept of the smart city is to make the city an icon that is sustainable and livable. This study aims to provide the necessary information in building and developing a city through the smart city approach. This paper clarifies the meaning of the word \"smart\" in the city context through an approach based on an in-depth literature review of the relevant study. Philosophically, in vernacular architecture, the concept of thoughts is being revealed in the form of local wisdom. Kampung Naga, as one of the vernacular villages in West Java, maintains its traditional culture although the inhabitants have undergone modern thought. The modern era has developed immensely which could affect the decline in preserving the local wisdom. To anticipate the decline, it is necessary to make an effort to formulate the local wisdom which is still existed. This paper aims to explain the results of research in Kampung Naga which focusing on physical elements and accommodating the results of previous research concerning on local wisdom. Data and information as written materials were obtained through field survey, literature review, and previous research studies. The results of the study show that local wisdom in Kampung Naga has an effect on the aspects of life in terms of social interaction, land law, physical building ideas and its spatial order. This research was conducted to obtain information that will be used to complement semiotics analytical methods. Field data collection methods are done both visually through recording of buildings and orally through interviewing some of the residents. This research uses semiotics analysis model derived from Ferdinand de Saussure which was adapted by Charles Peirce and used by Charles Jencks. Spatial arrangement of settlements in Kampung Kuta, Ciamis, West Java is based on historical imaginative mythical thoughts of the past about the Idea of Keraton Wurung. The thought has positively impacted on the sustainability of environmental preservation in the present. Numerous of these traditional markets had been renovated into layers of concrete buildings, but many are almost paralyzed in competing with shopping malls and the new way of trading, online shopping. Pasar Santa is still one of a kind. In 2014, Santa became the hippest gathering place and prestige marketplace for the emerging creative communities and young people -a new generation of vendors and buyers- while it still maintained its everyday needs such as fresh food, groceries and housewares. Santa -with its 1151 kiosks – succeeded to compete shopping malls and became one of the must-seen place in Jakarta. But in 2015, it died down causing farther businesses left.
