Ohta","doi":"10.1587/transele.2022ecs6003","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1587/transele.2022ecs6003","url":null,"abstract":"SUMMARY We attempt to design and fabricate of a 4 × 4 Butler matrix for short-millimeter-wave frequencies by using the microfabrication process for a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) by the synchrotron radiation (SR) direct etching of PTFE and the addition of a metal film by sputter deposition. First, the dimensions of the PTFE SIW using rectangular through-holes for G-band (140-220 GHz) operation are determined, and a cruciform 90 ◦ hybrid coupler and an inter-section circuit are connected by the PTFE SIW to design the Butler matrix. Then, a trial fabrication is performed. It was found that one-photon absorption excitation assisted with the thermal energy at the temperature is involved in the photodegradation process, in contrast to our previous studies at a wavelength of 1550 nm where two-photon absorption excitation is involved in the photodegradation process. Thus, both the excitation wavelength and the thermal energy strongly affect to the degradation mechanism. In any cases, the photodegradation of EO polymers is mainly related to the generation of exited singlet oxygen.","PeriodicalId":13259,"journal":{"name":"IEICE Trans. In the MHz band, a PLF of several meters su ff ers from standing wave e ff ect, resulting in fluctuation in power transfer e ffi ciency accordingly to the receiver’s position. This paper studies a modified version of the system, where the PLF is divided into individually compensated segments to mitigate the standing wave e ff ect. Modelling the PLF as a lossy transmission line, this paper theoretically shows that if the segments’ lengths are properly determined, it is able to improve and stabilize the e ffi ciency for all positions. Experimental results at 27.12 MHz confirm the theoretical analysis and show that a fairly high e ffi ciency of 70% can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":13259,"journal":{"name":"IEICE Trans.
