Facial deformities can affect how a person looks, feels about themselves, and interacts with others. It can significantly impair phonetics, mastication, and deglutition and cause facial deformation. Maxillectomy due to mucormycosis is one such maxillofacial defect and it becomes essential to rehabilitate these cases with modified techniques based on the extension of intraoral defect, the severity, the degree of resection, the type of mucormycosis, the stability of lesions over time, the presence ofcontiguous disease, the accessibility of dental and prosthetic resources, and patient expectations. The prosthetic reconstruction with a maxillofacial prosthesis can restore function and appearance, comfort, and quality of life. The prosthesis should be simple to handle, easy to maintain, biocompatible, light in weight, and convenient for future adjustments. The maxillofacial surgeon, oncologist, and reconstructive dentist should work together to develop a treatment plan based on these considerations. Thiscase report provides the current treatment options for these patients and rehabilitation of the defect. It also discusses the issues that need to be addressed during the planning of prosthetic treatment and highlights some challenges the clinicians face in providing prosthetic treatment for mucormycosis patients.","PeriodicalId":132317,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Materials","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130834959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These materials were introduced to overcome the inherent shortcomings of cast posts.Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the pull-out bond strengthof fibre posts with relining and without relining.Materials and methods:Twenty maxillary canines were extracted and underwent endodontic treatment, involving the removal of their crown portion. Post-space preparation was performed, and the appropriate post size was selected. In Group 1, ten samples were coated with a layer of composite, reinserted into the post space of the canal, and then light cured outside the canal. The other ten samples (Group 2) were without relining. The fibre posts from both groups were cemented with RMGIC. The samples were mounted in tensile fixtures ofthe universal testing machine and subjected to a tensile load until the posts were debonded. The debonded samples were analysed using a stereo microscope for bond failure analysis. The obtained results were subjected to statistical analysis.Results:The mean pull-out force in group 1 and group 2 was 72.2100±8.56420 and 61.3700±11.00611, respectively. One way ANOVA analysis showed a significant difference in the pull-out force among the groups (P=0.043). In Group 1, 30% of the samples reported adhesive-2failures and 70% adhesive-1&2 failures. But in Group 2, all samples were reported with adhesive-3 failures. Fisher’s Exact test displayed a significant difference in the type of bond failure between the groups (P=0.003).Conclusions:This study concluded that the coating of the fibre posts improves their tensile strength.","PeriodicalId":132317,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Materials","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121820954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impressions are made at implant level –closed and open tray impressions, as well as abutment level impressions. Closed and open tray copings are used to make the impressions. The limitations associated with the implant impression copings, including expensive ones, pose a significant challenge in limited mouth-opening cases, and customization of copings is not feasible.Aim: This study aimed to compare the dimensional accuracy of four impression methods, open-tray, closed-tray, disposable mount as coping and splinted mount as coping.Materials and methods:An ideal maxillary edentulous acrylic model was used with windows created at the canine and molar regions. Four analogues were implanted in the canine and molar areas to represent implants. The analogues were parallel to one other and were orientated at 0 degrees using the surveyor's assistance. Four groups were made: closed-tray, open-tray, implant mount as coping and splinted mount as coping. The custom trays were fabricated, accordingly. The implant-level impressions were made in all the groups using polyether impression material. The impressions were fitted with their respective impression copings with the analogues. The impressions were poured using die stone type-IV, and the casts were made. The resulting casts were 3D scanned, and a virtual model (.stl File) was created. Each .stl file was subjected to Geomagic software to evaluate the three-dimensional accuracy of conventional implant copings and implant mount as copings. Results:The Open-tray and the closed-tray groups exhibited the mean dimensional accuracy of 0.011±0.0016 μm and 0.018±0.0012 μm, respectively. The mount as coping and splinted mount displayed a mean dimensional accuracy of 0.017±0.0008 μm and 0.013±0.0020μm, respectively.Conclusions:This pilot study concludes that the implant mountcan be used as implant impression coping and an alternative to the conventional impression coping.","PeriodicalId":132317,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Materials","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122053970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Predictable success is now a reality for the rehabilitation of many difficult conditions as a result of ongoing research in treatment planning, implant designs, materials, and methodologies. The medical fields have long placed a strong emphasis on the biocompatibility properties of synthetic materials (biomaterials) used to replace biological tissues. In addition, implant biomaterials must be suitable in terms of mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and structural biostability in order to function at their best. In this article, the various implant biomaterials with their properties and applicability to implant dentistry are discussed.","PeriodicalId":132317,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Materials","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121338558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This silicon sensor was designed using the BiosensorLab tool, a simulator from the nanohub website. This paper also presentedan Integrated Smart Bio-nano Sensor. The motivation behind this smart sensor was that an incident happened in one of the southern states of India, in the year 2020; the leakage of styrene gas (C8H8) from the Polymers industry caused 12 deaths and several people hospitalized. Most people died after they inhaled styrene gas because they thought the pungent smell (of styrene gas) was also part of their kitchen’s emissions. This incident prompted us to propose an Integrated Smart Bio-nano Sensor. Results:The proposed sensor was capable of classifying the origin of sources of emissions dynamically (smart), even under lower concentrations of gas levels (25 ppm) and could alert the habitants in case of untoward danger. Conclusions:After verifying settling time vs. analyte concentration, the density of captured target molecules concentration with time vs. time, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the biosensor in the presence of parasitic molecules vs. receptor density, it was concluded that these three parameters have helped in identifying the characteristics of the proposed bio-nano sensor.","PeriodicalId":132317,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Dental Materials","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116331394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
