In this paper frequency extrapolation is used for obtaining a high resolution capability for base station antenna arrays. A new algorithm based on the eigenvector decomposition is developed for adaptively resolving transmitters which are located close to each other. Initial simulations show that this technique performs as well as existing techniques for low signal to noise ratios. However, in high signal to noise environments, the proposed technique outperforms the existing algorithms.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat. The proposed scheme performs an adaptive transmission and dynamic frequency resource assignment. It determines the transmission parameters, such as modulation format, FEC code rate and the number of time slots per frame, according to the error sensitivities, the required bit rates for the transmitted packets, and the channel state. We analyze the MSE performance of the decoded video and the bit error rate performance of the data traffic by computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme gives much better performance than the conventional uniform resource assignment scheme. It is capable of improving the total QoS (quality of service) of two or more video streams and non-stream traffic with efficient radio resource utilization.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat. Consequently, the delay time of the delayed waves can typically become greater than the duration of one symbol and delay spread handling by traditional adaptive equalization is not an easy task. OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) is a spectrum efficient kind of multicarrier transmission. Using OFDM-techniques makes it possible to reduce the effects of multipath fading and thus complex equalizers at the receiver side can be avoided. The principles, technology and limits of OFDM are introduced and discussed. Special attention is given to SNR-problems and to synchronization in time and frequency at the receiver. OFDM is a strong candidate for the future generation of wireless communications. The performance of an OFDM-based system is limited by the system speed and the synchronization-ability and also by the given antenna concept. Thus the required future communication performance is not obtained only by improvements of the OFDM-concept but also by advanced diversity techniques and adaptive antenna technology.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat. The full duplex operation of these systems requires that the transmitter and the receiver operate simultaneously. When a handset is operating at maximum distance from the base station within a given cell, the high transmitter output power necessary to communicate with the distant base station is in direct conflict with the receiver operating at maximum sensitivity. The transmitter leakage power through the duplexer is usually significantly higher than the desired signal channel through the first few elements of the receiver. As a result, the transmitter leakage becomes the dominating effect for nonlinearities for the first LNA (low noise amplifier) in the receiver chain. This paper focuses on the effects of cross modulation in a WCDMA system.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat. The analysis and simulation results demonstrate that substantial improvement in intermodulation distortion (ACPR and CLR) can be achieved with relatively small signal processing overhead and minimal added hardware complexity. This paper attempts to present the underlying concept by applying frequency domain analysis to an amplifier modeled by a truncated power series. The technique has been successfully applied to EDGE and QPSK-modulated carrier signals. Simulation and practical results are presented to demonstrate its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat. Then, based on the performance, transmitter location optimization in indoor environments is considered. Results indicate that the effective diversity order is retained even when high cross correlation exists and power imbalance exists between signals from different antennas. Also, a global optimization algorithm with the help of a ray tracer can find transmitter locations which are optimal (global optimum) in the sense of power coverage or overall BER in the area of interest.","PeriodicalId":132092,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings RAWCON 2002. 2002 IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (Cat.
