Various IEC 61850-based power IT equipments produced by multi-vendor will consist of the actual test site for smart grid. Site acceptance test (SAT) which carried out the completely installed equipment in the site, gives the confirmation to customer before operation. Conformance tests have to perform in order to achieve the effective SAT. However, devices are passed conformance test, it may still remains the issues during integration, commissioning and operation. To reduce the number of costly issue and problems during integration, site commissioning and operation, therefore, interoperability test is required as well as conformance test.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124158601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A specially designed protection relay detects the fault generated high frequency current transient signals and records the polarity of the transient signal and the time instant corresponding to when the initial travelling wave generated by the fault arrives at that busbar. A communication unit is used to transmit and receive coded digital signals of the local information to and from the associated relay(s) in the system. At each substation, the relays determine the location of the fault by comparing the polarity and the GPS time stamps measured locally with those received from the adjacent substations. Simulation studies presented in the paper demonstrate the feasibility of the scheme.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123812550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So far, AGC (Automatic generation control) has focused on economic dispatch control and load frequency control; especially the latter is mainly on frequency stabilization for ac-link network systems. However, the upcoming power-electronics based HVDC transmission system offers new aspects for the improvement of frequency control. In this paper, 2-area and 3-area network systems are investigated to discuss how a HVDC interconnected system can works to suppress frequency fluctuation for random load disturbance. Because DC-interconnection provides an adequate power exchange, reduction of frequency deviations for both systems is achieved if the control gain is tuned properly. However, the effect varies depending upon geometrical differences. In order to discuss the effectiveness of HVDC link for load frequency control, the HVDC-link is designed as a feedback system of system state variables, whose concept has been used for Hokkaido-Honshu link in Japan and also proposed for Minami-Fukumitsus link in Japan. The load fluctuation model is constructed to demonstrate actual load's behavior. In AC-interconnected power systems, the HVDC-link connecting the local systems does not provide frequency control enhancement since power exchange has been already achieved on the other links. However, if two isolated power systems are interconnected, the HVDC-link will make an important role in sustaining the frequency within regular tolerance even if the its capacity is very small compared to those of two systems. Whole DC-interconnected system now acts as a single system and the disturbance to even the weaker system is easily suppressed since it is treated as a tiny disturbance to the whole system.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131552676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is very difficult and complicated to handle the interconnection issues for proper voltage managements, because professional skills and enormous amounts of data for the evaluations are required. The typical evaluation algorithms mainly depending on human ability and quality of data acquired, inevitably cause the different results for the same issue, so unfair and subjective evaluations are unavoidable. In order to overcome these problems, the paper proposes reasonable and general algorithms based on the standard model system and proper criterion, which offers the fair and objective evaluations in any case. Under these conditions, this paper proposes a proper evaluation algorithm for the voltage management at normal and emergency conditions. The results from a case study show that the proposed methods can be a practical tool for the voltage management in distribution systems including dispersed sources.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131592916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The three frequency estimation techniques to be discussed are the DFT filtering based algorithm using phasor angle between two phasors, the high speed FIR filtering based algorithm, and positive sequence component based algorithm using the half angle between two successive positions of phasor. In this paper, these frequency estimation techniques have been formulated through numerical manipulation of a discrete system. For ATP simulation data, the performance of these three frequency estimation techniques are also compared.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126504585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TTC assessment is to calculate TTC by using the repeated power flow (RPF) method. TTC is limited not only by the violation of system voltage and thermal limits, but also restricted by transient stability limit. The transient energy margin is the difference between the transient energy and the critical energy. In order to calculate energy margin, two values of the transient energy function have to be computed. The first value is transient energy that is the sum of kinetic and potential energy at the end of fault. The seconds is critical energy that is potential energy at controlling UEP. The method proposed is applied to 4 machines systems to demonstrate its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131770459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MP solves a general optimal power flow (OPF) problem while the SPs inspect the feasibility of OPF solution under respective transmission line contingencies. If a dispatch scheduling solution given by the MP violates transmission-security constraints, then additional constraints corresponding to the violations are imposed to the MP. Through this iterative process between the MP and SPs, we derive an optimal dispatch schedule incorporating the post-contingency corrective rescheduling. Numerical example demonstrates efficiency of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115025721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since few suitable construction sites can be found and the power system near to the wind farm is too weak to sustain the power fluctuation caused by wind power, the introduction of large amount of land wind power tends to be extremely difficulty and even impossible. In this case, offshore wind farm is a good and only way to increase the wind power generation. For this purpose, a basic research of offshore wind generation system is done in this study for identifying its fundamental behaviors. In this paper, the preparation of offshore data for conducting simulation, the basic study on its construction, the method of power transmission and the control of power equipments of an offshore wind generation system, with which a self-commutated HVDC transmission system is adopted to transmit wind power from offshore to land, are investigated and presented. As a result of the simulation study with a typical one-machine infinite bus power system model on PSCAD/EMTDC platform, the characteristics of offshore wind are clarified, and furthermore, the behaviors of the proposed system are verified as well.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134093248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence NSPP is a good candidate for the main protection in UHV lines with the special characteristic of larger charging current. But as we all known, NSPP is not suit to the open-phase operations in transmission line, which limited its wide applications in HV/EHV lines in history. In response to this question, the performance of NSPP in transmission line with open-phase operation is analyzed, and the mal-operation reason of the NSPP relay is discovered. Then an improved algorithm for faults detection is proposed in open-phase line, and the simulation results verified its validity. The work in this paper is only the basic steps, the more research, such as the sensitivity and transient characteristics of ground fault detections in open-phase line should be discussed further.","PeriodicalId":131589,"journal":{"name":"2009 Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133701736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ESS is able to store and discharge energy extremely quickly, consequently enabling a complete exchange of energy between vehicles, even if they are not braking and accelerating at precisely the same time, as is most frequently the case in everyday service. The ESS reduces primary energy consumption without affecting transport capacity and punctuality. The ESS is considered to be one of the useful devices for energy storing and recycling. This paper presents effects of energy saving and voltage stabilization by applying the energy storage system to Gold Line of LA Metro. The result indicates effect of the ESS.
