In this paper, we have analysis some rate algorithms in wireless networks. Since wireless networks have different standards in IEEE with peculiar features, data rate is one of those important parameters that wireless networks depend on for performances. The optimisation of this network is dependent on the behaviour of a particular rate algorithm in a network scenario. We have considered some first and second generation's rate algorithm, and it is all about selecting an appropriate data rate that any available wireless network can utilise for transmission in order to achieve a good performance. We have designed and analysis a wireless network and results obtained for some rate algorithms, like ONOE and AARF.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130928676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These have necessitated the needs to manufacture portable and smart devices that can be interconnected to the Internet for home and industrial usages and for environmental surveillance. Consequently, global and national regulatory laws and statutes aimed at addressing illegal activities committed across computer and sensor networks are also increasing. Nevertheless, there are incessant cases of abuse through information leakage, masquerading, telephone hacking and password cracking that are perpetrated by some users of these technologies. Thus, this paper critically describes and analyses emerging security challenges in the investigation of smart devices that interface with computer systems. The review will be functionally useful to researchers, vendors, security professionals and IT end users in general.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131695911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper further proposes that with an optimal choice of the crucial step size parameter, one can relatively guarantee faster convergence and conditions for robustness. This modification in the system can significantly be applied to any noise cancellation system. The designed system proved to be indubitably successful and functional in performing the intended application that is eliminating noise from a signal such as speech signal or any other type of audio signal. We stimulate the adaptive filter in MATLAB and analyze the performance of the algorithm in terms of convergence speed, computational complexity and stability. The simulation results are included to demonstrate and support the claims and points raised in the paper.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126515430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several modifications to the standard FAO Penman-Monteith equation (PM) that enables us to use limited climatic data for estimating ET0, however these equations have to be adjusted locally depending of the different climatic conditions. In this paper, we use Bayesian model averaging in order to determine the uncertainty of different models that explain ET0. Using this approach, we tackle the multi-collinearity problem of climatic variables by combining multiple regression models. More specifically, we consider estimation of ET0, as a non-stationary regression problem where the rules governing the mean and noise processes might change depending of the different climatic conditions. In order to build the candidate models, we use a divide and conquer approach known as Treed Gaussian Processes (TGP) and then demonstrate the method by using time series of ET0 calculated by means of the PM, equation. The results are also compared with other regression techniques and simplified equations for calculating ET0.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114063471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is about developing a new real-time control simulator based on Petri net. This paper presents three design challenges that were dealt with during the development of the real-time control simulator, the design issues were: 1) realization of token gaming (time requirements in consumption of input tokens and creation of output tokens), 2) representation of event continuity (whether places or transitions represent event continuity), and 3) interaction with the external influences (whether to map places or transitions to interact with external events). This paper shows that the following are the most suitable for development of the real-time control simulator: ASAP firing for realization of token gaming, transition for representing continuity of events, and transition (with the pre and post definitions) for interacting with external events).","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121175331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These parameters include learner's contribution in the collaborative e-learning session. They also include learner's collaboration history in collaborative e-learning sessions and the collaboration capabilities of the group in which he participates. These parameters can be used as inputs to a model that generates a set of recommendations for the next step that should be taken towards the e-learning objectives. These recommendations can be used to enroll the learner in an e-learning session that best fits his collaboration capabilities. In this paper, a fuzzy inference system is introduced to estimate learner's collaboration in terms of a proposed metric called collaboration-index. This index can be utilized to guide the e-learning system for advising the learner to the best choice of the next collaborative e-learning session. Simulation study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy provides a positive impact on collaborative e-learning environments.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121463609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
