The main objective of this study was to analyze humor styles among health care professionals. A cross-sectional and correlational design was employed. Data were collected using the Humor Styles Questionnaire, which measures four humor styles: affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive, and self-defeating humor. Health care professionals scored higher in positive humor than negative humor. Age exhibited a negative correlation with positive humor. Significant differences were observed between marital status and affiliative and self-enhancing humor, professional category and hospital unit with aggressive humor, shift work and self-enhancing humor, and type of contract and experience with affiliative humor. Health care professionals employ various humor styles based on their social and work contexts. It is crucial for health care professionals to receive training in the use of positive humor to consciously avoid humor styles that can hinder well-being.</p>","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":"38 4","pages":"194-201"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141426748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted with 173 patients who had the diagnosis of hypertension who applied to the Cardiology Clinics of a University Health Practice and Research Hospital between 15.12.2021 and 10.03.2022. Before starting the study, permission was obtained from the ethics committee, institution, and patients. The data of the study were collected through face-to-face interviews, a questionnaire, and the Attitude Scale Toward Using Complementary Treatments (ASUCT). The score to be obtained from the scale varies between 0 and 39 and a high score indicates a positive attitude toward complementary treatments. One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to evaluate the homogeneity of the data. The Student t, Mann-Whitney U test, correlation, and ANOVA tests were also used to evaluate the data, and P < .05 was considered statistically significant. It was found that 55.0% of the patients were women, 31.2% were between the ages of 44 to 56, 63.0% had other chronic diseases, and 68.2% preferred herbal applications in the management of hypertension. It was also found that the mean ASUCT score of hypertensive individuals was 21.13 ± 2.99, and there was a statistically significant relationship between the mean ASUCT score of the patients and their gender, education level, and reasons for applying to herbal therapy (P < .05). Patients frequently preferred the consumption of pomegranate syrup (43.4%), garlic (36.4%), and quince leaf tea (30.8%) as non-drug applications in the management of hypertension. It was found that the attitudes of the hypertension patients toward using complementary treatments were at a \"moderate\" level and there was a relationship between their level of attitude toward using complementary treatments and gender, education, and the reasons for applying herbal therapy. In this respect, it is recommended to evaluate the attitudes of hypertension patients toward using complementary treatments, to learn the practices they prefer for disease management through patient-health care professional interaction, and to support patients for hypertension management.</p>","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":"38 4","pages":"213-219"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141426747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Outpatient services have become increasingly popular for seeking medical care. Establishing traditional Chinese medicine specialty nursing clinics can meet the medical needs of the general public, and provide patients with convenient and efficient medical services. This study employed a retrospective cross-sectional observational design to analyze the medical service status of all patients who attended the clinic since its opening. Five qualified traditional Chinese medicine nursing experts identified and implemented 5 categories of traditional Chinese medicine characteristic nursing techniques, including cupping, moxibustion, needle acupuncture, and massage. Nurses and patients evaluated the treatment outcomes for various diseases. Since the establishment of the nursing outpatient department 2 years ago, there have been over 7046 visits, with a satisfaction rate of 97.1%. Currently, 5 nursing experts are nurturing a total of 11 graduate students, conducting 5 free clinics in the nursing outpatient department, and organizing 3 visits by overseas experts. The traditional Chinese medicine specialty nursing outpatient service effectively meets the diverse medical needs of patients, alleviates the outpatient pressure on hospitals, enhances the specialized development of nurses, increases the prominence of traditional Chinese medicine specialty nursing techniques, and promotes traditional Chinese medicine culture.</p>","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":"38 3","pages":"164-171"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140863452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
