However, procedures for the use of aromatherapy and its effects on patients with cervicogenic headaches (CGHs) have yet to be determined. This study investigated the effects of a 14-day aromatherapy intervention on pain, life function, and neck flexion endurance in patients with CGHs. This pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial involved 24 patients with physician-diagnosed CGHs and used matching, single-blinding, and independent samples. Participants were divided into aromatherapy massage (AM) and placebo massage groups, with aromatherapy involving 15-min inhalations of essential oil/placebo and 5-min applications to cervical muscles daily for 14 days. Assessments included the Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form and neck flexion endurance tests. The AM group showed significant improvement in pain relief and life function scores but no notable increase in cervical muscle endurance. Fourteen days of aromatherapy effectively relieved pain and improved life functions.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":"181-188"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144626068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The burden of daily tasks necessary for diabetes self-management can negatively impact psychosocial outcomes. The practice of gratitude in patients with chronic conditions has demonstrated improvement in poor psychosocial outcomes. The purpose of this review is to examine the effect of gratitude interventions on glycemic and psychosocial outcomes in individuals with diabetes. We searched 5 databases in September 2024 to identify research articles that met inclusion criteria. Six studies met inclusion criteria. Interventions included gratitude journaling, gratitude therapy, writing a gratitude letter, and gratitude reflection. Results indicate gratitude is a feasible intervention and may improve anxiety and depressive symptoms, quality of life, and coping with diabetes. There was heterogeneity in intervention delivery and results. Further research is required to ascertain the extent of correlation between gratitude, and glycemic and psychosocial outcomes.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":"189-198"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143709221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An integrative review was conducted on studies published from January 2014 to November 2024 using PubMed, Google Scholar, RISS, and KISS databases. Keywords \"spiritual care\" and \"spiritual nursing\" were used, and 288 studies were selected following PRISMA guidelines. A gap between perception and practice of spiritual care was identified, with time constraints, lack of education, and organizational support as major barriers. Spiritual care education was effective in enhancing competence of nurses and medical staff, positively impacting patients' quality of life and emotional stability. Cultural background and religious beliefs significantly influenced spiritual care practice. Systematic and standardized education, organizational support, and multidisciplinary approaches are necessary for effective spiritual care implementation, reflecting cultural diversity and modern health care needs.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":"199-207"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144336480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This descriptive study was conducted in order to determine the use of TCIM in 301 women who attended the in vitro fertilization center and obstetrics clinic of a university hospital for infertility treatment between July 4, 2021, and October 1, 2022. The data were collected using an Introductory Information Form, and a TCIM checklist. In the data analysis, count and percentages were used for descriptive data, mean-standard deviation and its test for continuous variables, and the chi-squared and Fisher's exact test for categorical variables. It was determined that the women had the most awareness about the use of vitamins and minerals (88.7%), prayer (76.1%), herbal treatments (73.4%), imagery (69.8%), and diet (68.4%). The types of TCIM they used most were vitamins and minerals (81.4%), prayer (66.4%), imagery (62.8%), and probiotics (50.5%). It was also determined that they were most satisfied with exercise (80.5%), Reiki (80%), and relaxation techniques (78.6%). The study found that approximately half of the women used TCIM during their infertility treatment. It is extremely important for health care personnel to be knowledgeable about TCIM methods, to question the use of TCIM in women during infertility treatment without prejudice, and to inform these women about the benefits and possible risks of TCIM use.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":"171-180"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144649376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nurses cultivate presence through intentional awareness and actions to support patients, yet there is a paucity of relevant literature regarding nursing presence in EOL care. An evolutionary concept analysis employing Rodger's techniques was conducted with 20 international research studies and nine analyses of nursing presence between 1992 and 2023. The attributes, antecedents, and consequences of nursing presence in EOL care were described, a theoretical definition was proffered, and suggestions for its clinical application and future research directions were offered. As evidenced by this concept analysis, nursing presence in EOL care is an intentional, temporal, spatial, and intrapersonal relationship. More research and analysis of this concept are needed, especially in long-term care settings given continued growth in the long-term care patient population and the prevalence of nurses leading EOL care in that setting.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":"144-170"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143803051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cross-sectional study was conducted with 152 oncology patients treated in the outpatient chemotherapy unit of a university hospital between February and June 2024. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Spiritual Well-being Scale, and the Dispositional Hope Scale. The mean age of the participants was 58.72 ± 12.09 years, and 56.6% were female. The mean score on the Spiritual Well-being Scale was 30.72 ± 6.28, and the mean score on the Dispositional Hope Scale was 46.15 ± 11.27. A moderate, positive, and statistically significant relationship was found between spiritual well-being and hope levels. According to multiple regression analysis, having a high school education or lower, not needing psychological support, knowing the stage of the disease, feeling well, and hope level explained 52% of the variance in spiritual well-being. Furthermore, being a university graduate, diagnosis time longer than 25 months, not knowing the stage of the disease, number of children, and spiritual well-being explained 50.8% of the variance in hope level. In conclusion, it was determined that oncology patients have high levels of spiritual well-being and hope, and that an increase in hope level significantly strengthens spiritual well-being. Integrating spiritual care into nursing services to support spiritual well-being and hope is highlighted as an important necessity.
","PeriodicalId":13081,"journal":{"name":"Holistic Nursing Practice","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2026-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147769693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
