In the absence of proper recycling systems, the electronic products that have reached their end of life and those are no longer used, end up in the landfills. Some researchers found hazardous materials inside the electronic products that could contaminate water, soil and air. Therefore, another strategy is needed to avoid negative effects on the environment. The Temporary import policy is one of the import procedures under Customs administration control, which states that goods can only be imported for a specific period, and should be re-exported afterwards. This paper tries to analyze the impact of the implementation of the temporary import policy on electronic products. By employing the Input-Output Analysis to the data from the Statistic Central Bureau and Indonesian Customs, this paper identified the impacts of the proposed procedure to some sectors in the Indonesian input-output table, namely: import activity, waste management and recycling system, transportation and storage, and final demand. The result shows increasing in quantity to be re-exported, and potential benefit from transportation and warehousing, leasing and rental services, and other business.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130743544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue of the increasing volume of waste becomes crucial if it is not balanced through proper handling efforts. The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta through the Environment Agency of DKI Jakarta Province seeks to address the waste problem by constructing alternative facilities in the city’s waste processing facilities. The processing facilities referred to here are the Waste Power Generation or Intermediate Treatment Facility. The operational sustainability and the production output of the facility are influenced by the amount of waste supply as its raw material and are also influenced by the optimization of the transportation route of waste to the facility. The purpose of this research was to develop a model that can optimize the transportation route of waste from the source to the Intermediate Treatment Facility. The nearest neighbor method was to devise a truck travel route to serve the temporary waste shelter closest to the last visited location. The result of this research was obtained by route and trip that has new implications on garbage transportation which more optimize from the side of transport capacity, travel time, distance, and decrease from previous condition to the requirement of garbage truck procurement equal to 39.16%, fuel cost of 35.64%, human resources salary of 39.16%, and 35.64% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The implementation of the new routes and trips has a very positive impact in terms of the economic viewpoint to save operational costs, reduce the social impacts of delays in transporting waste from the sources, and reduce emissions from transportation operations.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"71 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120874480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to find option for increasing productivity among smallholder and to reduce the environmental impacts of nutrient management in their plantations. We adopted UNEP’s definition of resource and impact decoupling as a tool to estimate resource decoupling rate and impact decoupling rate. The average smallholder’s resource decoupling rate from 2013 to 2017 is 0.86 kg fertilizer/kg fresh fruit bunch. This rate is 93.48% of the average of the companies (0.92 kg fertilizer/kg fresh fruit bunch) for the same period. Reducing the fertilizers dosages will reduce the resource decoupling rate and the impact decoupling rate by 58.14% (from 0.86 to 0.36 kg fertilizer/kg fresh fruit bunch) and by 67.32% (from 3.06 to 1.10 g CO2e/kg fresh fruit bunch) respectively. Reducing the fertilizer dosage is the most appropriate approach to increasing the resource and impact decoupling rates. We conclude that a smallholder is able to produce fresh fruit bunches sustainably by changing nutrient management practices and increasing access to certified planting material. Further study is required to include the influence of land use change on the impact decoupling rate as this factor was not included in our analysis.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132884644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People strive to solve the problem with reducing the use of plastic and figuring out the method to recycle efficiently; however, the story of trash pickers is barely on the topic. The problems are the ignorance and underestimation of the society. People should consider the integrated solution for both the environment and those trash pickers. The ideal solution would be formalizing waste disposal system, officially hire trash pickers for their stable life, and let their children access to education for brighter future. This discussion will examine the importance of understanding the people behind the trash by investigating the trash pickers community in Cirendeu, Indonesia. Before doing the research, the author has visited the communities several times and had been given the impression of pity, poor and helplessness; however, since the waste management system in Indonesia is unclear, they must be playing a significant role. The author carried qualitative research including fieldwork and interview in Bahasa Indonesia, with supports from a local non-profit organization, XSProject, which has been communicating and supporting the trash pickers for a decade. The results from the research indicate that they contribute to recycle to a great extent. Their waste disposal method is quite systemized. They are also skillful, active and ambitious. There is a person who has the second job, skill to make aquarium for his children, own shops and teach sewing. All group leaders of trash pickers, called Lapak have a skill to build houses and carts for his men, anak-buah. Their skills of sorting the trash let XSProject reuse more than hundreds of kilograms of plastics including plastic packaging, grocery bags and rice sacs each year. Their contribution for Indonesian environment is underrated although it is huge.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114882705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No international agreement exists about handling marine plastic debris. By contrast, national laws have been created to plastic bags and plastic debris. Currently, the existing legal instruments, especially in outer space law, are still traditional and inadequate. A sustainable new paradigm in outer space law is needed, such as the use of satellite technology, such as the COSMOS satellite by RKA Recosmos, for global environmental issues, including the ozone layer, climate change, biodiversity handling of hazardous and toxic waste, and rubbish, including marine plastic. Satellite technology is needed, especially in providing data and information and in observing the movement of plastic waste in the sea. International cooperation is needed to ensure complete and accurate data and information about the spread of marine plastic debris. This study aims to identify and analyze the role of sustainable outer space law in the handling of marine plastic debris using outer space technology such as satellites. The main research is study relations between law of the sea and outer space law. The methodology of this research uses normative legal research. The analysis of this research uses normative and juridical analysis methods. This research show that satellite technology is seldom to use in the study’s marine debris moreover in the international law perspective. Preliminary results show that a sustainable outer space law requires all parties to cooperate and handle marine pollution.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127680765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the 2000, the process of marginalization of the Sumbanese has been drastic. They have suffered from the pressures of expanding agro-industry and mining. Most land on the beachside has been purchased and fenced off for future tourism development. Protesting the hardships, the people face, local NGOs collaborating with Sumbanese ritual specialists launched Festival Wai Humba (Festival of Sumbanese Water) in 2012. It aims not only to promote environmental protection but also to preserve the cultural heritage of Sumba, in terms of which the executive committee emphasizes the Sumbanese indigenous and local knowledge (ILK). The analysis of the Indonesian text, the prospectus of the fifth FWH, is important to understand the whole festival. Other data I discuss here were collected mainly by the qualitative research method. I interviewed the festival committee members and other attendants and conducted participant observation in various activities during the festival. The research shows the importance of a network connecting local communities all over Sumba and the translation of ILK into more adaptable and understandable knowledge. These two points are made possible by the collaboration between community leaders and NGOs, which is needed to negotiate with local and central governments and private companies.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129527119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital farming is found easily in many developed or agricultural countries, such as southern Europe and Brazil, nor to Indonesia and South Korea. However, Indonesia and South Korea experienced internet utilization and agricultural land area discrepancies which come to similar result, still developing sustainable agriculture. Thus, subjects of the study are Indonesia and South Korea due to their location in the Asian continent and similar history as developing countries in the past. Using farmer households and land agricultural data from Central Bureau of Statistics Indonesia and Statistics Korea, this study conducts quantitative analysis through fuzzy analysis and qualitative analysis through charts and explorative study. Based on quantitative analysis, the results are suitability maps between agricultural land area and farm households in Indonesia and South Korea due to agricultural land area, especially rice field, and farm households are the variables. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis produces charts and descriptive explanations, including internet utilization from World Bank. The rice field area is linked to land conversion, whilst farm household populations are linked to the prosperity of farmers. Indonesia has more farm households and rice field areas than South Korea, but South Korea has the technology to boost productivity and efficiency. The mutual relationship can be built by seeing food security in South Korea and digital farming implications in Indonesia. Therefore, both countries could strengthen bilateral relations beside of digital farming actualization.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"167 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124660657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is usually produced by household industries using traditional technology, which currently experiencing environmental problems with respect to the inefficiency of resource usage and inadequate waste disposal. Therefore, cleaner production strategy is potential to be implemented by previously mapping the current problems faced by the industries. This study aims to present an environmental analysis on tofu production in Salatiga in the context of cleaner production. In addition to provides information about the current production process and explains waste management performed by the industries, this study describes how the people in Kalitaman-Salatiga consider environmental issue around the tofu production. This study was conducted by a qualitative approach using interview, observation, and documentation. Laboratory analysis was conducted to provide supporting data. The results showed that only a small proportion of the tofu production process in Kalitaman meets the indicators for cleaner production in term of using raw materials efficiently and reusing solid wastes. Wastes in the form of smoke and wastewater are still disposed without prior treatment. The BOD5, COD, and TSS contents of tofu wastewater exceed the quality standard set by the Indonesian government. Although the respondents understand the negative impact of pollution to ecosystem, they are not yet concerned because it does not show a direct detrimental impact on their community. Therefore, raising environmental awareness is required in order to protect the ecosystem and to prevent environmental deterioration.","PeriodicalId":130623,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115340032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
