Our research focuses on the use of three physiological signals: blood volume pulse (BVP), galvanic skin response (GSR) and pupil diameter (PD), to automatically monitor the stress state of computer users. This paper reports on the hardware and software instrumentation development and signal processing approach used to detect changes in the stress level of a subject interacting with a computer, within the framework of a specific experimental task. For this experiment a computer game was implemented on the basis of a clinical mental stress test, called the 'Stroop Test', adapted to make the subject experience two different levels of stress, while his/her BVP, GSR and PD signals were continuously recorded Several data processing techniques were applied to extract effective attributes of the 'stress' state of the subjects. Current results indicate that there exists a strong correlation among changes in those three signals and the shift in the emotional states when stress stimuli are applied to the interaction environment.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. This need is exacerbated by wireless carriers looking to multimedia fees for a greater portion of their revenues. As a result, the pressure is on to create a platform for multimedia delivery that is resilient to outages and able to provide a quality presentation. Multipath streaming (MP) has arisen as a solution to indeterminate network architectures. Placing simple MP streaming in a cellular environment creates the unique problem of integration with air-interface handoff methodologies. The multimedia handoff method (MHM) addresses this problem. The MHM is compartmentalized, enabling it to be encapsulated in current frequency handoff methodologies.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The objective is to determine what factors in the Jamaican and ERP systems environment determine user-satisfaction and to provide useful diagnostics for managing the IS unit and the organization's IT resources. The methodological approach used, focused on collecting primary data from staff members from four locations of the organization. The data was collected using the widely accepted IS modified SERVQUAL instrument. The survey instrument also included five questions provided by the IS unit to evaluate the Oracle ERP system implemented in the organization. The questions included user friendliness, performance expectations, detailed analysis, timely processing of data and adequate security of the system. The findings, based on the overall organization, suggest that although service quality is below expectations, the gaps are not generally significant, i.e. equal to or greater than one. The mathematics education markup language (MeML) is an XML application specifically designed to structure WME lesson pages and increase element interoperability. A client-side plug-in, Woodpecker, supports the display and operations of MeML pages. The mathematics education service protocol (MESP) defines a uniform interface for accessing, controlling, deploying, and customizing WME services. This paper discusses extending its applicability to instruction and research as a virtual networking laboratory (VNL). The VNL operates in an Internet-connected LAN environment and can perform operations of arbitrary scope under control of remote users. A multi-layered abstraction model of the VNL is described, wherein the client-side test application performs functions related to remote-controlled testing and experimentation. This architecture is suitable for VLSI implementation, as it exploits paradigms of massive connectivity like those inspired by neural networks, and parallelism and functionality integration that can be afforded by emerging nanometer semiconductor technologies. By utilizing a \"global-systolic, local-hyper-connected\" architectural approach, this architecture can be suitable for the processing of real time DVD quality video at the highest rate allowed by the MPEG-2 standard. The technique involves an automated method for the extraction of the spinal cord regions from the diffusion tensor imaging data and relies on the fuzzy means clustering approach, which is inherently robust. Experimental results obtained for the segmentation of in vitro spinal cord sections of varying ages from 48 to 80 years demonstrate the viability of the automated segmentation technique. Statistical comparison with manually delineated white matter regions indicates the potential of the automated technique for the investigation and analysis of white matter abnormalities in diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging of the spine.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. We implement the decimation filter using the canonic signed digit (CSD) representation. Each digital filter structure is simulated using Matlab, and its complete architecture is captured using DSP Blockset and Simulink. The filter has been implemented on Xilinx FPGA using Virtex-2 technology. The resulting architecture is hardware efficient and consumes less power compared to conventional decimation filters. Compared to the comb-FIR-FIR architecture, the designed decimation filter architecture contributes to a hardware saving of 69%; in addition, it reduces the power dissipation by 83%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Typically, a client requests service from a single mirror site. When there are more servers (mirror sites) to provide the same services, the client has to choose one randomly to get served. Without prior knowledge about the reliability and performance of mirror sites, the client might not be successful in accessing the resources on their first attempt. As an extension of our previous research (Y. Kim and M. Swain, \"The role of Intelligent Model for Data Source Selection in Distributed Server Environment\", submitted to ACMSE, GA, 2005), we propose a system enabling a client to access files from the mirror sites with confidence using intelligent agents in a multiagent environment. In this research, we have considered factors like bandwidth, availability and capacity of servers for our agent model in choosing a more probable data source in an intelligent way.
