This paper aims to find the best ESS operation schedule to minimize the peak load on the feeder. The load on the feeder needs to be predicted to determine the optimized ESS schedule; however, one deterministically predicted scenario is not reliable because the prediction contains certain error. In this paper, the forecasting error is reflected when the ESS schedule is optimized by using probabilistic load prediction. The proposed method doesn’t provide only one scenario but shows various scenarios with probability of peak load to distributed network operators (DNOs) as a result of ESS operation. The DNOs can choose the best scenario based on their principles. In the simulation, based on the probabilistic load prediction, the peak load is shaved and three scenarios—optimistic, realistic, and pessimistic—are shown.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115026745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These changes introduce higher uncertainties and pose implications for both network and market actors. While the network operators face frequent operational challenges in terms of voltage limit violations and network congestions, the market parties need deal with a higher risk of imbalance. In this paper, a dynamic clustering method has been proposed to procure flexibility from the smallscale residential prosumers in order to minimize the imbalance cost. An agent-based coordination mechanism has been adopted to implement a demand response program based on local supply and demand balancing. A bottom-up simulation analysis was performed incorporating 600 residential prosumers. Simulation results indicate that a dynamic and adaptive clustering scheme can efficiently minimize the imabalance cost resulting from wind power forecast errors while maintaining the comfort constraints of the prosumers.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125429237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the last decade, the online PD measurements and self healing networks gained significant interest over the periodic maintenance. However, online measured signals are suppressed by high frequency noise, therefore, de-noising of measurements is of paramount importance to get reliable information about a fault. An adaptive de-noising technique based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT), capable of de-noising the measured signals automatically without any human intervention is presented in this paper. The major challenges in using DWT such as wavelet function selection and reconstruction of de-noised signals are addressed. A simple criteria about selection of decomposition coefficients based on dominant frequency and amplitude is used in the presented algorithm. The de-noising performance is evaluated by comparing with other techniques such as correlation based wavelet selection and energy based wavelet selection methods. The results prove that adaptive de-noising is simple, effective and reliable in terms of run time which makes it more useful for online monitoring application.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132195277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper narrates a research work of how home energy management systems maximize profits from buying electricity at a fixed price from utility and selling surplus energy to an aggregator. Appropriate optimization problems are formulated with technical constraints of household devices and from connection requirements including a volt-watt function installed in the inverter of the rooftop solar-battery system. On the day of operation, the energy plan, which has been optimally committed to be sold to an aggregator since the day before, is considered for determining optimal HEMS responses under the actual real-time condition. Simulation results of a Japanese low-voltage system show that a consideration of volt-watt functions when performing optimization helps reduce wasted energy due to possible active power curtailments and improve home profits.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115006806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fault diagnosis methods for IGBT are developed to increase the system reliability. This paper proposes a diagnosis method for IGBT open-circuit fault based on ensemble-based randomized data-driven method. A novel learning technology named random vector functional network (RVFL) is adopted to train and learn the historical IGBT fault dataset. An ensemble structure is designed to increase the diagnosis accuracy. Finally, time window is defined to illustrate the relationship between diagnostic accuracy and decision time. It is shown that more input information of the classifier, the higher diagnostic accuracy can be achieved, but with more time. By comparing other data-driven methods, the proposed ensemble-based method has a higher diagnostic accuracy within the same decision time.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127282977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the variable and uncertain nature of RESs, the power flow of power systems with renewable penetration is no longer deterministic but probabilistic. Power flow study is vital to system daily operations as well as stability and economics. This paper investigates the effects of renewable energy integration on power system from a stochastic power flow point of view. Electrical load is assumed to follow a normal distribution. Wind and solar power scenarios are generated from the Weibull and lognormal probability distribution functions. The modified IEEE 39 bus testing system with RES penetration is modeled in a professional power system simulation software named DIgSILENT PowerFactory and it is further used for testing. Optimal power flow is running in each scenario of the stochastic process and the system without RES penetration is regarded as the base case. The effects of RESs on power system are analyzed comparatively in terms of generation cost, power losses, bus voltage deviations and line loading.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125178851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy harvesting process is facilitated by the forward piezoelectric effect, which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy during detection of ambient vibration by the cantilever beam. The cantilever beam model consists of two piezoelectric layers and an elastic layer clamped to a vibrating host structure at one end, as well as a tip mass mounted at the other end. Using COMSOL Multiphysics, a comparative analysis of the cantilever beam's simulated output characteristics was conducted. These characteristics were analyzed with respect to varying input parameters such as resonant frequency, load resistance and length-width ratio of the cantilever beam. Uased on the simulation results, an optimized model of the cantilever beam was eventually developed. A maximum output power of 4.4 mW and DC output voltage of10.1 V was generated by the model at $4~mathrm {k}Omega $ load resistance, at a mechanical acceleration of 1 g and a resonant frequency of 75 Hz.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125920156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Directional protection is expected to play an important role for selectivefault identification in such distribution systems. Traditionally, the directional protection comprises of a directional element working in conjunction with the overcurrent based fault detection algorithm. The selective operation is ensured by the definite mean-time operation of the overcurrent relays. For ac systems this directional element is based on the voltage polarisation techniques. In recent years, current-only directional element has been proposed which takes either pre-fault or the post-fault current as the polarising quantity. For the dc systems, directional protection is based on the operation only with the directional element which might maloperate during high-impedance faults. A new directional protection of dc power system is proposed in this paper which uses the time-domain based pre-fault current magnitude as thepolarising quantity while frequency-domain of the fault current for fault detection. The proposed current-only directional protection of dc system is compared with that of ac systems. AC and dc power systems of similar topologies and power levels are considered and the faults of various impedances are tested to compare the current-only ac and dc directional protection. It is observed that the current-only ac directional protection has limitations at high-impedance faults while the proposed current-only dc directional protection can easily detect high-impedance faults.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129651503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
