In this paper we will study the effects of the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). A model for predicting gain of the EDFAs that affected by SBS will be introduced. The results of modeling and simulation show that the SBS will cause backward scattering of the pump light and causes a reduction in the gain of EDFAs and this gain reduction depends on the pump laser linewidth. The numerical results show that there is a threshold value for this gain reduction. The threshold value of laser linewidth for minimizing the gain reduction due to SBS will be obtained.","PeriodicalId":126085,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2002 4th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat. It allows us to describe both an excitation of the soliton intrinsic degrees of freedom associated with the oscillations of centres of gravity of the beams making up the soliton and soliton interaction with interface between two nonlinear media. It is shown that soliton dynamics near such an interface dramatically depends upon excitation energy of intrinsic degrees of freedom. We have revealed that different internal energy of the same spatial soliton leads to unlike behaviour near the interface such as to transmission, reflection, capture or even breakdown of the bound state.","PeriodicalId":126085,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2002 4th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat.
