The gain is digitally programmable within a range of 1/16 to 1 by switching four binary weighted input branches on or off, which facilitates automatic gain control. Its output resistance is higher than 10 G/spl Omega/ due to active-feedback cascode techniques. Linearity is better than 0.25%, the bandwidth varies from 1 MHz for unity gain to 10 MHz for a gain of 1/16 without any gain overshoot, as simulations with Cadence/SpectreS show. With an on-chip capacitor connected to the output, a precise current integrator ASIC can be created. We discuss its application as a charge amplifier for capacitive sensors. Sensitivity can be adjusted to different values of the sensor capacitance by simply changing the CCCS-gain. The charge amplifier shows a bandwidth ranging from 3.5 Hz to 350 kHz and an output voltage settling time of 2 /spl mu/s for a 1 V/sub pp/ output voltage.","PeriodicalId":124893,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Sensing, Processing, Networking. The performance of the Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) and the computing devices has constantly improved, and very accurate and flexible instruments can now be realized with bandwidth up to several kilohertzs. Unfortunately, the transducers used to adapt the input signals to the suitable ADC input levels have not improved in the same may, so that the metrological characteristics of a DSP-based measuring equipment are mainly determined by its input transducers. Hence, trying to improve the performance of such transducers is of utmost importance. This paper proposes a new voltage-to-voltage transducer, based on a capacitive divider and /spl Sigma//spl Delta/ modulation techniques. It features a bandwidth wider than that of traditional magnetic and capacitive voltage transformers. Indications are given on the transducer design, and the results of experimental tests on a lab prototype with primary voltage up to 500 V are reported.","PeriodicalId":124893,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Sensing, Processing, Networking. Phantoms consisting of point and line sources of technicium-99 m have been imaged to determine the response function of the system throughout the field of view. The images were reconstructed using a filtered-backprojection algorithm for cone-beam geometry, equivalent to the Feldkamp algorithm. The reconstructed images indicated that the system response function is quite constant in width throughout the field of view, but varies in amplitude by about 30%. Some streak artifacts are visible, particularly from activity near the edges of the field of view, and may arise because of the incomplete projection sampling. These preliminary studies will be extended by assessing the potential for improved reconstruction techniques, and assessing the performance at lower counting rates, as in potential clinical applications.","PeriodicalId":124893,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Sensing, Processing, Networking.
