In reality passengers' perception of different cost attributes may vary with time. This paper focuses on quantifying the temporal variation of passenger route choice behavior and its impact on overall passenger flow assignment. In order to efficiently estimate model parameters, we modify a previous model to a missing data problem by introducing latent variable on route choice outcomes for each travel time observation. The revised model can be estimated using the Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm. We apply the proposed framework on Singapore's metro system and temporal grouped smart card transactions. We find that route choice coefficients vary substantially with time. The relative value of transfer time in terms of in-vehicle time ranges from 2 to 3, being higher at off-peak hours than during morning/evening peaks. The result suggests that passenger care more about total travel time during peak hours, whereas comfort (e.g., less transfer time) is of more concern to users during off-peaks. The proposed framework is general and can be applied on other networks.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127481358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper addresses a vision-based approach to identify the leader vehicle in complex urban environment, whose behavior is subsequently employed for the control purposes of the host vehicle. More specifically, the surrounding vehicles are detected and assigned to the corresponding driving lanes. Among those in the host lane, the one that most agrees with the host vehicle's driving task will be determined as the leader vehicle. Subsequently, the real-time, on-site and validated information of the leader vehicle, such as trajectory and velocity, is used to make the \"stop\" or \"go\" decisions as well as plan a safe and human-like local path and velocity profile. Experimental results in various typical but challenging urban traffic scenes have substantiated the effectiveness of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130160827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Linke","doi":"10.1109/ITSC.2015.333","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITSC.2015.333","url":null,"abstract":"The Stochastic Air Traffic Network Flow Optimization (SATNFO) problem aims to seek a set of optimum and robust flight plans to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious air traffic flow in the presence of uncertainties. Due to the very natures of multi-objective, large-scale and non-separable in the SATNFO problem, this paper sparks an evolutionary multi-objective optimization way for solving it. Firstly, we formulate it as a multi-objective problem, with performance and robustness as separate goals. In this model, robustness, which indicates the ability of a flight plan to cope with negative effects of uncertainty, is quantified and introduced as an objective. And, two conflicting performance objectives, i.e., minimizing the workload as well as the flight delays over the network, are involved. Then, we present an adaptive metaheuristic algorithm, termed as aNSGA-II, to solve the SATNFO problem. In aNSGA-II, a parameter adaptive mechanism is designed to dynamically adjust the probability of crossover and mutation based on problem context and evolution mechanism. It helps to balance exploitation and exploration during the evolutionary process, and thus maintain diversity of solutions and improve the convergence performance of the algorithm. Empirical studies using real data of flights and network in China are carried out, and show ability of our approach in providing efficient and robust flight plans and supporting better decision-making for air traffic controllers in a stochastic scenario.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129087345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This idea is here extended to transportation infrastructures, using pedestrian crossings as a specific case study. We define an Assistive Pedestrian Crossing as a pedestrian crossing able to interact with users with disabilities and provide an adaptive response to increase, maintain or improve their functional capabilities while crossing. Thus, the infrastructure should be able to locate the pedestrians with special needs as well as to identify their specific disability. In this paper, user location is obtained by means of a stereo-based pedestrian detection system. Disability identification is proposed by means of a RFID-based anonymous procedure from which pedestrians are only required to wear a portable and passive RFID tag. Global nearest neighbor is applied to solve data association between stereo targets and RFID measurements. The proposed assistive technology is validated in a real crosswalk, including different complex scenarios with multiple RFID tags.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130776597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These imply sharing information within a platoon of vehicles based on communication standards developed within ETSI TC ITS. Two novel ITS facilities layer protocols for platooning are proposed: Minimal and Full Platooning protocols. Standardising such protocols enable vehicles from different OEMs to have a common communication strategy for platooning. The proposed protocols are compared with the current facilities layer protocols: CAM and DENM. Deficiencies of these with respect to platooning are discussed. A discussion on message update rate is also given. Results from a demonstration of platooning with the Minimal protocol compared to CAM/DENM are presented. It is shown that the Minimal protocol gave a lower latency of brake actuation during a hard brake manoeuvre.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132772644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"ADS-B Authentication Compliant with Mode-S Extended Squitter Using PSK Modulation","authors":"Omar A. Yeste Ojeda, R. Landry","doi":"10.1109/ITSC.2015.288","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITSC.2015.288","url":null,"abstract":"This work proposes to use Differential 16 Phase-Shift Keying (D16PSK) modulation for embedding a digital signature within Mode-S Extended Squitter (ES) Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) messages. The purpose is to provide a security mechanism in order to protect systems against the injection of malicious Hazardously Misleading Information (HMI). The use of digital signatures for ADS-B has been previously analyzed in the literature. Our contribution and focus are devoted to the physical layer used to transmit such a signature. The proposed method generates ADS-B messages compliant with current standards, thus can be interpreted by current equipment. However, only a modified receiver shall be able to extract the embedded signature and authenticate the message. This work describes possible architectures for the ADS-B transmitting and receiving devices. An analysis of the expected maximum range and bit error rate for various PSK modulations is provided. In addition, the use of timestamps to protect against message replays is proposed and studied in the final part of the paper. In summary, this paper proposes a backward compatible way to secure the ADS-B system for the Mode-S ES data link, providing regulatory authorities with the means in case they opt for the use of digital signatures. The proposal is inspired from the idea behind the wireless security encryption method of Nagravision used in the Satellite TV broadcasting.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132892619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also completely reformulates the semi-supervised learning process used so that it requires much less labour and is much more effective than the previously used method, allowing the approach to be extended to much larger and more complicated images. These improvements are then tested against an open and challenging KITTI data set to demonstrate the improved results. This paper then provides an analysis of the lane marking hypotheses filtered by our augmentation to illustrate that the candidates removed by our filter can produce highly confident erroneous results if not removed before Inverse Perspective Mapping due to their visual similarity to lane markings in the grayscale Bird's Eye View image.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132902318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Density Peaks Clustering Approach for Discovering Demand Hot Spots in City-scale Taxi Fleet Dataset","authors":"Dongchang Liu, Shih-Fen Cheng, Yiping Yang","doi":"10.1109/ITSC.2015.297","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITSC.2015.297","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, we introduce a variant of the density peaks clustering (DPC) approach for discovering demand hot spots from a low-frequency, low-quality taxi fleet operational dataset. From the literature, the DPC approach mainly uses density peaks as features to discover potential cluster centers, and this requires distances between all pairs of data points to be calculated. This implies that the DPC approach can only be applied to cases with relatively small numbers of data points. For the domain of urban taxi operations that we are interested in, we could have millions of demand points per day, and calculating all-pair distances between all demand points would be practically impossible, thus making DPC approach not applicable. To address this issue, we project all points to a density image and execute our variant of the DPC algorithm on the processed image. Experiment results show that our proposed DPC variant could get similar results as original DPC, yet with much shorter execution time and lower memory consumption. By running our DPC variant on a real-world dataset collected in Singapore, we show that there are indeed recurrent demand hot spots within the central business district that are not covered by the current taxi stand design. Our approach could be of use to both taxi fleet operator and traffic planners in guiding drivers and setting up taxi stands.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126204481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An extended guided crowd model is adopted in this paper to investigate the influence of the quantity and position of guides on pedestrian evacuation dynamics. Simulation results indicate that the number of guides has relationship with evacuation efficiency, it is not the more guides the better evacuation effects. Furthermore, different positions of guides can result in different evacuation consequences, and the choice of the reasonable guides' positions has the relationship with the layout of the room and the density of pedestrians inside the room.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126533956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, this task is solved by radar, lidar, mono or stereo camera systems. To get a higher accuracy, a combination of multiple sensors is proposed in this work. Infrared cameras are already available in many passenger cars, mainly for night vision purposes, e.g. detecting pedestrians or animals on the road. In this paper, we analyze the benefit of combining stereo-vision in the visible domain with monocular vision in infrared images. We use the task of vehicle detection as an experimental setting. In extensive experiments involving more than eight hours of driving, we demonstrate that the additional detection of vehicles in infrared images significantly improves the overall integrated system performance.","PeriodicalId":124818,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 18th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114233699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
