The study included 41 patients with various oral pathologies associated with diabetes mellitus, who weretreated in theDepartment of Oral Surgery within Dental Municipal Center in Chisinau. Out of 41 patients, 24 were female (58,5%), 21 were aged more than 60 years old (51,2%), meanwhile 37 patients were based in Chisinau (90,2%). Most common diagnosis was periodontitis, in 30 of cases (73,2%), while sinusitis– only 2 cases (4,9%). Odontectomy was the treatment of choice for 30 patients (73,2%). The ratio between diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2 represents 1:6. The blood glucose level increased by an average of 0,53 mmol/L, after intervention. Cardiovascular comorbidities were reported in 80,5% of cases. As paraclinical examination, orthopantomography was applied the most, 27 patients (65,9%). Surgical procedures, even the less invasive ones as odontectomy, can exert an influence on the endocrine system, underlined by several clinical signs, capable to cause significant risk for the patient’s state of health.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"6 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140525952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extraction of impacted molars may be accompanied by complications, including inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) injury, with an incidence of up to 8.4% [3]. Among the risk factors for IAN trauma is the relationship between the molar and the mandibular canal (MC). The aim of the study is to evaluate the difficulty of extraction of impacted M3M and the risk of NAI injury based on radiological clichés. Materials and methods. A retrospective descriptive study was performed, including 25 molars. OPGs, and CBCTs of the patients were evaluated. Age, sex of patients; degree of inclusion according to Pell & Gregory; angulation of molars; Rood & Shehab signs were studied. Results. According to the degree of difficulty of the intervention, we obtained: low difficulty — 2 cases; medium — 21 cases; high — 2 cases. 84% of cases showed an association between more than one signs proposed by Rood & Shehab. The most common were loss of white line (33%), followed by MC narrowing and root darkening (22% each). The incidence of NAI injury was 8.3%. Conclusions. Risk prediction is useful in planning and facilitates decision making regarding the extraction technique of the impacted M3M.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"149 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140521413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purpose: to evaluate the effectiveness of preventive measures and treatment plan of bisphosphonate–induced maxillary osteonecrosis in patients with osteoporosis. Material and methods: In the study there are 3 female patients — DE — 65, LV — 85 and VM — 73 years of age respectively, to whom bisphosphonates were administered, two of them — orally and one — intravenously. The following investigations were performed: clinical, radiological examination (OPG and CBCT), osteodensitometry and beta–cross–laps bone marker analysis, and rheumatologist consultation. Results: Examination and treatment of patients was performed in 2 cases, with follow up for 1 year on average. The beta–cross–laps bone marker was respectively: DE–0.26 ng/mL, LV–0.22 ng/mL, VM–0.24 ng/ mL. Radiological examination revealed signs of sinusitis, irregular bone margins, increased porosity and in one clinical case — bone fragment detachment. Medicinal and surgical treatment was carried out for issues in the oral cavity. Conclusion: Early detection of bisphosphonate–induced osteonecrosis, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration with the physician rheumatologist, results in a decrease in the occurrence of secondary complications.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"110 5-6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140517408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can trigger the irritation of neuro–vascular structures near its vicinity, for example the glossopharyngeal nerve that can lead to deglutition disorders, dysphagia, globus sensation, neck and facial pain, headache. It is a diagnosis of exclusion and needs a high level of clinical suspicion being a rare condition without reports of incidence in the population of Moldova. In this article we present a case of bilateral elongation of styloid processes that caused persistent neck and facial pain in a patient that does not respond to analgetic drugs. The patient underwent unilateral styloidectomy by cervical approach, which resulted for the symptoms to disappear.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"5 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140515709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different types of resorbable and non-resorbable membranes, cortical autogenous and allogenic bone plates, and prefabricated and perforated titanium meshes are currently used as guidance and support materials. All these devices present a series of advantages, but also disadvantages, such as gingival dehiscence with exposure and superinfection, additional trauma, and complete resorption of the bone graft. The objective of the study. This study emphasizes the importance of resorbable biopolymeric membranes in GBR. The retrospectively and descriptive analyses of the technique at 6 months postoperative time on a series of cases were performed. Materials and methods. GBR with resorbable biopolymer mesh was performed in 15 patients in 18 graft sites. Was analyzed just graft sites without any complication. The density of the newly formed bone under the augmentation membrane was evaluated postoperatively at 6 months using computed tomography (CBCT) according to the Hounsfield scale. Results. Results were interpreted in 18 graft sites and were evaluated at 6 months by paraclinical CBCT examination. Another ethiology can be trauma or dental tumors with or without infection. Failure to identify the etiological dental factor usually causes severe complications. An early history and a thorough clinical examination, together with a radiological evaluation, are key factors in establishing a correct final diagnosis. The multidisciplinary approach between dentists, ophthalmologists, otorhinolaryngologists, neurologists and other specialists is necessary to avoid further complications, which sometimes put the patient’s life at risk. A medical management and an early diagnosis corresponding to the dental pathology, remain critical in the treatment of maxillary sinusitis of dental origin and the prevention of severe complications.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140525824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If necessary, it can be created by different grafting procedures before implant placement, during insertion or even after it. It is necessary to appreciate the influence of gingival phenotype upon periimplant bone loss during healing period. The aim of the study was to evaluate the soft tissue influence upon peri-implant bone remodeling during the healing period. The study was performed by analyzing the bone loss around 109 two-piece dental implants installed in one surgical step in 64 patients in posterior sides of the lower jaw (premolar and molar regions) who presented different thickness of the mucosa. After correlation analysis it was determined that the gingival phenotype have no impact on peri-implant bone loss during the healing period. Thus, gingival grafting can be performed before implant placement, during insertion or even after it.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140524597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Temporomandibular dysfunctions are frequently encountered in clinical dental practice, with a significant impact on the functionality of the stomatognathic system and quality of life. The rehabilitation of patients with temporomandibular dysfunction requires conservative, minimally invasive treatments, with a central objective of improving the dysfunctional symptoms. As a first-line treatment, occlusal splints are often indicated — devices with high efficiency (70-90%), but the therapeutic mechanisms and their primary effects in the short term are still not elucidated. Aim of the study: Evaluation of the short-term impact of treatment with occlusal splints on the objective and subjective level of expression of temporomandibular disorders. Results: The impact of the reversible occlusal treatment on the structure of the clinical picture in the short term (1 month of treatment) was varied, attesting to the statistically significant reduction of the mean values regarding the clinical indices of TMD expression (comfortable mouth opening amplitude, the number of joint sites /sensitive muscles, pain intensity) and subjective (perceived level of functional limitation). Conclusion: The overall analysis demonstrates impact trends of statistically significant amelioration for the studied symptoms, but the individual analysis of the cases demonstrates that the treatment with splints has an inconsistent effect per signs/symptoms, which highlights the need for studies over longer periods of time and with a wider range of clinical indices.","PeriodicalId":122574,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Stomatological Medicine","volume":"23 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140520725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
