To protect the lives and health of the people, the government has organized various forces to prevent one of them by taking policies in education by implementing distance education. This study will explain the application of distance learning in language learning and teacher evaluation and expectations for improving education in next semester's learning activities. This research is a descriptive study using a survey method. The participants in this study were Indonesian Language teachers at the secondary school level in West Sumatra. The sample of this study were 108 teachers. In this study, questionnaires were distributed to all secondary teachers in West Sumatra through whatsApp media by distributing questionnaire links created using the Google form application. The instrument used was a questionnaire in the form of a questionnaire consisting of thirty-six statements. Based on the results and discussion it can be concluded that online distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has been carried out in almost all regions of West Sumatra in accordance with government policy. From the results of the study concluded the following three things. First, student learning outcomes understand the spelling material using the discovery learning method are in Excellent qualification (BS). Second, student learning outcomes in understanding spelling material without using the discovery learning method are in the More Than Enough (LdC) qualification. This research was descriptive qualitative research. The data resource was tetralogy of Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata such as the Laskar Pelangi novel, Sang Pemimpi novel, Edensor novel, and Maryamah Karpov novel. The collecting data technique that was used was reading and taking note or library research. The data validation contained of validity and reliability test. The data was described by using content analysis technique. The results of the research were, as follows. First, the figurative languages that were contained in tetralogy of Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata consisted of two figures of speech such as comparing and relating. The genres of the comparingfigure of speech that were found were simile, metaphor, personification, and allegory whereas the genres of the relating figure of speech were metonymy and synecdoche. Besides, the rhetoric structures contained in tetralogy of Laskar Pelangi were repetition, contrast, and other structures. Genres of repetition were the repetition, parallelism, polysyndeton, and asyndeton thus the genres of contrast structure were hyperbola, litotes, paradox and irony. Other structures that were found were rhetoric, climax, anti-climax and antithesis. Based on the data that was analyzed, there were many simile styles. Second, the figurative languages and rhetoric structures in the tetralogy had different functions, so when they were collaborated into one, it would produce a gorgeous work. The function of the figurative languages and rhetoric structures in the tetralogy of Laskar Pelangi was the enrichment of language style that had high quality and quantity, so they could create the esthetic values toward Andrea Hirata’s work. Although school graduates are expected to have a good culture, it turns out that there are still many of them who are not culturally aware so that they do not strengthen the culture of their community. To improve this dilemma, the study of classical stories and the findings of the cultural wisdom contained in them can be taken into consideration in the development of literary education. The issue of marriage in Minangkabau society is also discussed by the author in literary works as a manifestation of phenomena that develop in society. Literary works that raise the issue of marriage in Minangkabau culture have appeared since the establishment of the Balai Pustaka force with the story of Siti Nurbaya by Marah Rusli until now. The purpose of this paper is to describe the pattern of marriage in local Minangkabau novels written in the reform era. This study uses an objective approach with an inductive design model. The data sources for this paper are local Minangkabau novels written during the reform era including; 1) Bulan Susut by Ismet Fanani, 2) Rinai Kabut Singgalang, by Muhammad Subhan, 3) Mengurai Rindu by Nang Syamsuddin, 4) Persiden, by Wisran Hadi, 5) Rumah Mande by Irhayati Harun. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the marriage pattern in the local Minangakabau novels written in the reform era had an ideal form of marriage, discordant marriages and forbidden marriages carried out by the characters of the story. In the novel, the author describes a cultural shift in society. Society is no longer bound by the rules of the recommended form of marriage. This will certainly have an impact, both positively and negatively on the pattern of life of the Minangkabau community itself.
