We have been looking at various parts of the issue throughout this morning from the perspective of the different speakers. Unfortunately, we often tend to focus on the parts and not look at the whole l i f e cycle of the software. The software engineering concepts that we must work with are ones that address that entire life cycle and are aimed at improving the quality and the productivity of the software.","PeriodicalId":121085,"journal":{"name":"Symposium Record Policy Issues in Information and Communication Technologies in Medical Applications","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123681464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example a single sheet of cherit X-ray film may contain as many as 16+ megabytes of information. An U S . average 40@ bed hospital produces approximately 300,000 sheets of X-ray film per year which corresponds to .5x10l2 bytes of information. The customary requirement is to archive films for seven years from the date of origination. Hence the volume equivalent to 3 5 ~ 1 0 ~ ~ bytes (=35 terabytes=35 million megabytes) of image data is presently stored on film and sporadically accessed in an average US hospital.","PeriodicalId":121085,"journal":{"name":"Symposium Record Policy Issues in Information and Communication Technologies in Medical Applications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117178400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
