Especially, ontology is becoming the pivotal methodology to represent domain-specific conceptual knowledge in order to promote the semantic capability of a QA system. In this paper we present a QA system in which the domain knowledge is represented by means of ontology. In addition, personalized services are enabled through modeling users' profiles in the form of ontology, and a Chinese natural language human-machine interface is implemented mainly through a NL parser in this system. An initial evaluation result shows the feasibility to build such a semantic QA system based on ontology, the effectivity of personalized semantic QA, the extensibility of ontology and knowledge base, and the possibility of self-produced knowledge based on semantic relations in the ontology.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125201729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach combines the merits of cable-driven parallel mechanism and modular serial structure, so that the workspace of the manipulator is larger than that of conventional cable-driven design. The paper first introduces the hybrid mechanism design of the manipulator whose shoulder joint is a modular serial structure. Then the forward kinematics of the manipulator is solved based on geometry analysis. Afterwards with analysis of relationship between cable length and joint angle, the velocity analysis and incremental displacement analysis are respectively employed to calculate the inverse kinematic solution. Finally, by utilizing VC++ software, a straight-line motion trajectory tracking for the hybrid cable-driven manipulator is realized, and the effectiveness of proposed approach has been verified by the simulation.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125393516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, a number of business models and delivery models are being tried and tested across the industry sectors to get the best possible fit between the clients' demands for quality, cost and bandwidth from the VoIP providers and the supply-side of VoIP, i.e., what the service providers promise to give in the contracts or Service Level Agreements and what they are actually able to provide. The latest trend in the outsourcing industry shows that clients are looking for more multi-vendor options for procuring any service than a single vendor option. This model reduces risk and increases the negotiation advantages for the clients. Considering this phenomenon, in this paper, we have proposed two different ways to select vendors for VoIP: one in a single-vendor option, another in a multi-vendor option. In the single-vendor option we have used data envelopment analysis. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is not a new technique in itself at all, in fact, in this paper we have shown the various ways it has been applied in other domains including service domains like financial services and banking etc. The main strength of DEA in the context of this paper is its ability to generate an efficiency frontier, which can be used for selecting a VoIP provider or comparatively evaluating VoIP service providers' performance data. We have explained this approach using a simple example, and outlined the implementation possibilities with more complex variables and models. For the multi-vendor option, we have shown an approach using goal programming. Using the same constraint sets as in the DEA formulation, the only difference that we have assumed here is that the client can distribute its VoIP service requirements to more than one vendor in contrast to a single- vendor situation in the DEA example. Goal programming is then used to select the optimal distribution of VoIP service requirements to a number of providers.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126390433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The neural network is used to approach to the function between the state hyperplane of the system and the reaching law. A hyperbolic tangent function is applied to replace the saturated function in order to realize the boundary method design of the sliding mode control. Simulation results show that system owns quick response and strong antijamming capability. Moreover, the chattering of neural network sliding mode control is weakened effectively, and problems that cannot be solved with the traditional PID control method under complicated environment and conditions such as variable load etc can be solved.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"6 Sup1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128294493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Heating canisters are used in water heaters to heat up water instantly and are made of deep drawn copper sheets. The canister assembly process includes welding which is highly labor intensive and the quality of canister assembly depends on the process of capability. Any variation in this assembly process will result in losing of the completed canister which can not be recovered as it is fully welded. The purpose of this paper is to present an alternate modular design which reduces the reject rate during manufacture, increases serviceability during manufacture while addressing the issue of recyclability of the canister assembly during the usage. The proposed modular design also addresses the cost of rejection during the manufacturing process.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116485801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
