However, it is needed to consider the fact that animals also live in the same environment without using the same means, and there is always a chance of colliding with them while driving vehicles. Animal-Vehicle Collision (AVC) is a principal concern for transportation agencies and roadway hazards that influences human safety, property, and wildlife. State of Tennessee animal crash data has been collected for 23 years containing different types of information for each collision. This paper presents and evaluates the performance of five machine learning-based prediction models for animal collisions in the presence of both categorical and non-categorical features. These five models are developed using Logistic Regression, Random Forest, CatBoost, eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM). The CatBoost model has the highest accuracy level at 78.52%. Therefore, it seems to be the most suitable model to predict animal collisions based on 23-year data from Tennessee. The experimental results demonstrate the potential of leveraging categorical data with CatBoost as a viable solution for creating up-to-date and complete analysis for animal-vehicle collision data.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116761195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is achieved by identifying and analysing these -- physical and non-physical -- bottlenecks along the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) corridor sections in the Adriatic -- Ionian (ADRION) region, with specific attention paid to those corridors that have been indicatively extended to the Western Balkans (WB) region, where the issue of border crossings is quite relevant. The Covid-19 pandemic outbreak affects the entire globe, including Europe, in many and different ways. In the fight against the spread of Covid-19, national governments of the European Union (EU) introduced temporary restrictions to border traffic of various degrees, ranging from border controls to outright closure. In this framework, ADRIPASS took duly into account the experience gained during the period of Covid-19 in the Transnational Strategy for the improvement of multimodal transport and accessibility in the ADRION region, developed as the final output of the project. The current paper presents in a summarized way the activities, results and outputs, including the defined Strategy and specific proposals related to transport facilitation for the period to follow. The model was developed using eleven input parameters of world GDP, world population, world air fare yields, world jet fuel prices, outbound flights from Australia, Australia’s unemployment numbers, Australian’s (AUD/USD) foreign exchange rate, Australia’s outbound tourist expenditure and four dummy variables. The model was constructed using annual data from 1994 to 2019. The hybrid learning algorithm and the subtractive clustering partition method were used to generate the optimum ANFIS models. The performance of the model was measured using five error measures: coefficient of determination (R2-value), root mean square errors (RMSE), mean absolute errors (MAE) and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The results found that the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for the overall data set of the model was 3.60%. The R2-value was around 0.9886, demonstrating that the ANFIS is an efficient model for predicting Australia’s outbound airline passenger demand.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134037286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This being the case, it is now, more than ever, important to identify the approaches that are most suitable for delivering sustainable freight transport to the nation. Intermodal options appear to be the most appropriate for this task. This study examines the development of intermodal freight transport in Poland from 2007 to 2016. It considers the barriers overcome and that remain to be overcome as well as identifying opportunities for further development. Initially, secondary data sourced from the Glowny Urząd Statystyczny, Urząd Transportu Kolejowego and Eurostat databases, was utilised to explore the situation. This was then reinforced by primary data collection, in the form of a survey, the aim of which being to validate the reviewed literature and the findings of the derived from the database data with the subjective perspective of the respondents. It was found that although the prevalence of intermodal transport has an upward trend in Poland its uptake remains significantly lower than in other EU member states. The major issue inhibiting the development of intermodal transport in Poland is the condition of the nation’s infrastructure. This is accompanied by an element of concern for the external costs generated by intermodal carriers. However, Poland’s participation in a range of EU funded projects that support the modernisation of its ageing infrastructure has been, and remains, a major driving force behind the ongoing development of the intermodal transportation of freight within the country.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117044892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fluctuations in the travel time have direct impact on the route capacity which, in turn, negatively impacts the effectiveness of operational measures of the subject route’s capacity. In this study, travel time analysis was carried out for three different frequently used road segments using three different travel modes: private and commercial (mass transit (“trotro”) and shared taxis) for 13 days by measuring travel times from start to the end of each study section. Three different times of day were employed for the analysis that is the morning peak (7:00am to 10:00am), afternoon peak (1:00pm to 3:00pm) and the evening peak periods (4:00pm to 7:00pm). The results obtained suggest that there are huge variations in the travel time variability for both the morning, afternoon and evening peak periods for the three travel modes studied on the selected routes. The paper concludes that the wide differences in travel time variability, which could be attributed to the prevalence of side friction agents and multiple stops, make trip planning and its related prediction efforts extremely challenging and recommends a scale-up of study to establish the conclusions made from this study.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124941855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uber and Careem are two ridesharing services or Transport Network Companies (TNCs) which use mobile-based applications and use GPS to connect passengers and drivers in an efficient way. These ridesharing companies have been operating in the country for the past five years. For TNCs such as Uber and Careem, consumer satisfaction plays an important role in retaining customers and satisfying them thereby boosting their profits. Consumer satisfaction and service excellence are interconnected and associated with each other. This research determined the influence of the five service quality dimensions of SERVQUAL model i.e. assurance, responsiveness empathy, tangibility and reliability on consumer satisfaction of ridesharing services. This questionnaire survey-based research study was carried out on 268 respondents. The collected data was analyzed by Pearson correlation followed by the formulation of the regression model, associating consumer satisfaction with service quality. The research showed that all the service quality dimensions had a positive impact on consumer satisfaction. Assurance, responsiveness, and empathy significantly influenced consumer satisfaction whereas reliability and tangibility had a less significant impact on consumer satisfaction as compared to other service quality parameters. This research study assisted the TNCs in better understanding of service quality parameters which needed improvement for enhancing the consumer satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128539140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
