The growth in passenger and air cargo traffic has resulted in increased energy requirements that airports need to satisfy. Airports are extremely energy intensive. To mitigate the environmental impact from energy consumption, airports have introduced a wide range of energy saving measures. Using a longitudinal case study research design, this study examines Osaka’s Kansai International Airport sustainable energy management, energy sources, energy consumption and the methods and technologies that have been implemented to mitigate the environmental impact of energy at the airport. The study period was from 2002 until 2015. The qualitative data was examined by document analysis. Electricity, natural gas, hydrogen and wind power are the airports principal energy sources. Despite the growth in passengers and aircraft movements, the airport has been able to reduce its energy consumption. Energy-saving initiatives including the use of hydrogen, solar, and wind power, fixed electrical ground power for aircraft, widespread use of LED lighting, more efficient use of air conditioning systems and ceiling fans, and the use of low emission vehicles.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115741162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, failure in correction for GNSS signal tropospheric delay was supposed to significantly degrade the quality of GNSS-based position estimation. Here we present the study results aimed at determination of GPS positioning performance quality and GPS tropospheric error based on experimental observation during the November 2017 medicane. We found identifiable degradation of GPS positioning performance due to medicane-caused tropospheric delay, and propose corrective actions aimed at maintaining GPS positioning performance resilience for several classes of GNSS maritime applications.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121395065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Selecting the optimal business model means implementation of sustainable competitive strategy as one of the key airline business challenges. Characteristics and trends in airline competition worldwide were analyzed by using correlation and regression metrics. European air transport competition analyzes include specific Southeast Europe topics. The liberalization of the Croatian air transport market has significantly affected the increase in demand in the international scheduled passenger traffic from the year 2004. Air transport in Croatia is growing much faster compare to the maritime and land transport sectors. A significant structural change in the aviation market due to the strong increase of low-cost carriers share in international scheduled traffic occurs. At the same time, the share of domestic scheduled and charter transportation is stagnating. Croatia Airlines in restructuring process provided in the period 2011 2015 recognized necessity to justify market position through optimal network strategy.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116196061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If transportation agencies could accurately quantify the impacts of various congestion causes, they would be able to prioritize their strategies more efficiently. The Federal Highway Administration developed a well-known congestion causal pie chart in 2004, but this development process did not have extensive access to field data. Recent advancements in both traffic measurement technologies and data-driven analysis are making it possible to quantify congestion impacts more accurately. However, an assessment of congestion causes on signalized arterials presents many challenges, due to complexity of the required data and the interaction of traffic demand and control. The objective of this study is to create congestion pie charts which demonstrate the proportion of average experienced delay components on arterial corridors. A multivariate linear regression model of observed delay is used to demonstrate contributing factors to arterial street congestion. The methodology is explained using a section of Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The findings from the model demonstrate that a considerable part of arterial congestion can be attributed to travel demands and intersection signals.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115844620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This tool enables to estimate traffic state from real time data and is ready to implement into model based control strategy. Since efficient traffic management or control of transportation system remains big challenge due to the necessity of accurate traffic state estimation; model based control strategy incorporated with LIMB tool can ameliorate the complexity. This research found that the breakpoint of multi-regime FD models obtained from experience were not able to estimate traffic state precisely; therefore LIMB was used to calibrate those models. The investigation also endeavored to develop a guideline which was capable to calibrate suitable FD models for lanewise traffic conditions. Our proposed technique is independent of speed limits and completely automatic without any threshold inputs. Furthermore, it is comparable with the well-recognized FD automatic calibration technique. The comparative study found a 5% to 8% variation in estimating FD parameters. Later, we investigated several novel single and multiregime FD models utilizing field traffic data obtained from PeMS website. LIMB adopted likelihood estimation method to identify density at breakpoint in between free flow and congestion states for multi-regime models. It applies least square method to estimate critical density-free flow speed-capacity. The proposed interface is conducive and easily adaptable for transportation practitioners to select the best model based control strategy for smooth and efficient traffic operation.","PeriodicalId":117687,"journal":{"name":"International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122600626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
