The method includes experimental preparation of solid wood surface by cutting in such a way to get a surface that can be considered to represent only anatomical roughness, with no other influence. Experiments were performed on radial cross section of solid oak wood (Quercus robur L.) so that the results could be compared with roughness profiles that were previously obtained in experiments after sawing with circular saw. From these samples and based on frequency analysis of anatomical roughness signals, the threshold value was determined to be 1.6 μm. The average value of Ra parameter of anatomical roughness for specimens of radial cross section of solid oak wood was 2.1 μm with standard deviation of 0.3 μm. The importance of choosing adequate sampling length in threshold determination, based on frequency analysis of anatomical roughness signal, was also established.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135295508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the effect of site and culm height on the physical and chemical properties of Yushania alpina culms grown in Ethiopia. Matured Yushania alpina 3 to 5-year-old samples were harvested from Hagere-Selam and Rebu-Gebeya sites. The culms were subdivided into three equal lengths (bottom, middle, and top), and the variations in physical and chemical properties between the two sites and the culm heights of Yushania alpina were investigated. The results showed that the average values of MC, basic density, tangential and longitudinal shrinkage of Yushania alpina culms for Hagere-Selam and Rebu-Gebeya sites were (91.78 and 80.32 %), (0.65 and 0.63 g/cm3), (6.63 and 5.84 %) and (0.63 and 0.56 %), respectively. The average values of cellulose, lignin, extractive and ash contents in the culms for Hagere-Selam and Rebu-Gebeya sites were (52.84 and 50.71 %), (26.55, and 26.04 %), (8.41 and 8.02 %) and (1.95 and 2.17 %), respectively. The results revealed that the site affected the MC, basic density, cellulose, lignin, extractive, and ash contents of Yushania alpina culms but not the tangential and longitudinal shrinkage. The culm height of Yushania alpina affected MC, basic density, tangential shrinkage, longitudinal shrinkage, cellulose, lignin, extractive, and ash contents. In the case of both sites, the highest percentages of MC, tangential and longitudinal shrinkage, and ash content were observed at the base and lowest at the top of the culms. On the contrary, both sites observed thehighest magnitude of basic density, cellulose and extractive at the top and lowest at the base of the culms. The variations in physical and chemical properties at different sites and culm heights infl uence the utilization of Yushania alpina culms for industries and end products.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135295510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, waste summer and winter tires were ground, rubber powders were obtained by separating rubber materials from other materials, and particleboards with different properties were produced using this sawdust in different percentages. The oven-dry density, air-dry density, and equilibrium moisture content at (65±5) % RH and (20±2) ºC, thickness swelling (TS, 2 hours and 24 hours), water absorption (WA, 2 hours and 24 hours) characteristics, bending strength, modulus of elasticity, and internal bond strength were determined according to the applicable European standards. The hydrophobic nature of the tire rubber enhanced the water absorption ratios of particleboards. In addition, mechanical performance of groups was affected by tire content, and it was mainly determined that the values decreased dramatically with increasing tire content. It was especially observed that this decrease was more pronounced when subtracting 30 % to 20 % waste tire content. The groups including winter waste tire rubber achieved better performance than summer waste tire groups. The use of waste rubber in boards resulted in a decrease in the equilibrium moisture content and mechanical strength of the samples.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135295504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(grapevine) stem wood, which is extracted as agricultural waste. Two grapevine trunks were collected from the Gülnar region in Turkey. Observations on microscopic anatomical characteristics were carried out on sectioned and macerated wood samples. According to the measurements conducted, the following mean anatomical characteristics were determined: earlywood vessel tangential diameter 258.81 μm, latewood vessel tangential diameter 35.52 μm, ray width 197.19 μm, ray height 4618.67 μm, vessel length 498.85 μm, fibre length 1.03 mm, fibre diameter 22.05 μm, and fibre wall thickness 4.23 μm. Based on the determined characteristics linked to the fibre quality, the fibres of the grapevine can be placed in Quality Class III for pulp and paper processing. All derived indices of grapevine met the acceptable threshold except for the flexibility ratio. Examining the anatomical structure of the grapevine will enable a database to be created for further studying of wood anatomy and these characteristics can be evaluated with respect to other possible areas of use.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135295511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The degree of resistance is determined by the onset and course of charring; these basic parameters are affected by the cover structure as well as by cavity fillers between the individual bearing elements. This article focuses on analysing the structure of fire protection covers based on gypsum boards, namely gypsum plasterboards and gypsum fibreboards. The foundation for the current analysis, based on the ignition temperature of the load-bearing timber element under the fire cover, includes the results of experimental fire tests carried out on test specimens in a fire furnace with a standard time-temperature curve set to simulate a fire. In addition, a numerical analysis of the temperature behaviour in the structure was carried out in order to compare the experimental results with the values obtained by mathematical analysis. Finally, the influence of the cover layers on the resulting fire resistance of the analysed structures is evaluated.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135295507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three factors were evaluated in determining the interactions as they are considered the most important in affecting the product quality characteristics such as particle size of Al2O3, surface modification agent and melamine raw material. Experiments were conducted in three replications using the L18 (21 × 32) orthogonal array. Color and gloss measurements were evaluated together with the sensory analysis method, which takes into account the number of the spots in the sample as quality characteristics. The best values obtained as a result of statistical analysis were A2 for the melamine raw material, 30 to 60 μm for the particle size and N-methyl-3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylamine for the surface modifier agent. Whether the experimental factors have a meaningful effect on the quality characteristics was also tested separately by analysis of variance. Only 58 % of the effect of the evaluated factors on the outcome could be expressed with the linear model (R2adj = 0.5785).","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study period was from 2005 to 2020 and focused on HS44, HS47, and HS48 forest product groups. A gravity model was estimated using panel data with the Ordinary Least Squares, Random Effects, and Hausman-Taylor estimation methods. Results indicate that the forest products exports from Turkey to the EU are significantly influenced by the Gross Domestic Product, the population of Turkey and the EU partner, and negatively by the relative forest endowment. The elasticities estimated were then used to predict the export potential of Turkey in the trade of forest products. The findings revealed that the predicted forest export value exceeded Turkey’s actual forest products export to Denmark, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia and Spain from 2005 to 2020.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49075228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In line with this goal, Siberian pine (Pinus sibirica) wood species, widely used in the woodworking and furniture industry, was chosen as the experimental material. The heat-treated (at a temperature of 190 °C for 2 hours) and untreated samples were machined using two different cutters (carbide upcut milling cutter and carbide compression milling cutter) with 5 mm diameter at 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm/min feeds, 8000, 12000, 16000 rpm spindle speed, 50, 75 and 100 % stepover on the CNC machine. Surface roughness values (Ra and Rz) were measured to evaluate the obtained surfaces according to ISO 468 (2009), ISO 3274 (2005), and ISO 4287 (1997) using a contact profilometer. When the data was evaluated in general, the lowest roughness value for Ra occurred in upcut milling cutter, with 50% stepover, 12000 rpm, 1000 mm/min feed on untreated solid wood material. The highest roughness value for Ra occurred in a compression milling cutter, with 100 % stepover, 16000 rpm, 2000 mm/min feed on heat-treated solid wood material. It has been observed that the feed is the most critical parameter affecting the surface roughness.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44262711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the soft computing approaches were applied to oak (Quercus Petrea L.), chestnut (Castanea sativa M.), and scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) with water-based, polyurethane, and acrylic varnishes. The adhesion strength of the varnish was determined in accordance with the Turkish Standard Institute-24624 and ASTM D4541. The outcome of the experiment was used to develop artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic (FL) prediction models. The total number of 360 data points was split as 80 % of training and 20 % of test for the model development. During the application of the ANN, 6 features were used as an input, while the adhesion strength was used as an output of the model. The coefficient of determination values (R2) for training and testing in the ANN models were 0.9939 and 0.9580, respectively. In the case of the ANFIS model, R2 values for training and testing were 0.9917 and 0.9929, respectively. Considering the MAPE, RMSE, and R2 values obtained from the results of both training and test values, it can be concluded that the ANFIS model showed a more successful performance in estimating varnish adhesion strength. Therefore, ANN and ANFIS have the potential to provide time and cost-efficient benefits in estimating wood adhesion strength.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46493111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to our literature review, although some important studies about presenteeism, stress, and silence can be found, this study is the first to explore the mediating role of presenteeism in the relationship between organizational stress and organizational silence in forest products sector. The research was designed as a field study and conducted using a questionnaire. The questionnaire involved forest industry employees’ demographic data, Organizational Stress Scale, Organizational Silence Scale, and Stanford Presenteeism Scale. Data were analyzed in SPSS and AMOS, incorporating statistical tests such as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling. Results of the analyzed data showed that presenteeism had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between organizational stress and organizational silence. Moreover, organizational stress had a positive effect on presenteeism, while organizational silence had a negative effect. Organizational stress had no effect on organizational silence. Therefore, managers should develop strategies for coping with stress to reduce presenteeism behavior of their employees and identify organizational stress factors causing organizational silence.","PeriodicalId":11427,"journal":{"name":"Drvna Industrija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47062143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
