In this paper, we demonstrate that a metal encased mobile device is enabled for efficient wireless charging using a loosely coupled resonant system. To facilitate this approach, three coils are designed and distributed on a metal phone case and they are tuned for resonance at 6.78MHz. With electromagnetic analysis of the coil geometry, a prototype is fabricated by machining an aluminum. Measurement results show that 8W can be delivered to the load on a regular AFA (AirFuel Alliance)-resonant compatible charger. In practice, using all three coils is optional and a designer may use only one coil for the metal cover design.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121115693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these receivers may have different charging requirement, due to the distance between transmitter and receiver, device type and energy demand. Simultaneous charging can also lead to poor comprehensive wireless charging efficiency. We propose a charging priority for the devices in the charging area, considering the device type (in terms of the battery capacity), energy demand, distance to the transmitter, and their movability. This algorithm can enhance the efficiency for more than 20% by charging in order.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125323686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we designed a highly efficient 5.8 GHz rectifier based charge pump circuit, and introduced a class-F load that can make it on a process the third harmonic wave. For adjusting the most suitable applied voltage of diodes, we designed a new filter. This PAC geometry combines conventional planar aligned and anti-aligned coils in a single Archimedean layout, resulting in a quality factor (Q) twice that of a conventional coil. The PAC WPT system demonstrates a measured power transfer efficiency (PTE) that is improved from 15% to 35%. Moreover, with the use of the Archimedean coil geometry, the WPT system exhibits a higher PTE over a wider range of frequencies. This compact PAC geometry is 10% smaller in size than its conventional counterparts, and maintains a larger PTE with lateral coil misalignment.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130756291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An electromagnetic simulation tool, based on an integral formulation, is coupled with a stochastic method that quantitatively determines the contribution of each uncertain design variable to the output uncertainty in terms of Sobol' indices. A generalized polynomial chaos expansion - being a state-of-art surrogate modeling method - is used to reduce the computational cost involved by these stochastic simulations. The performance of the proposed method is illustrated via the analysis of a resonant wireless power transfer chain.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130845395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
