The application is for kW power transfer to static electric vehicles and vehicles in motion. The goal of the distributed array approach is to increase maximum transferable power while decreasing the external electric field produced by the WPT system, accomplished by field focusing through phase control. Full-wave simulations show that high power transfer efficiency with an accompanied 40% reduction in maximum external field can be accomplished with an 8-element array with 180° alternating phase difference between adjacent elements. A comparison is made for allocated bands at 6.78, 13.56 and 27.12 MHz showing improved focusing with increasing frequency. A system prototype at a scaled power level is currently being designed, taking account tradeoffs in circuit element loss and focusing loss.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127688756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The target RF input power is around 10 W at 5.8 GHz and output DC power is 2-3 W. To achieve such high input/output power with small CMOS chip, low impedance and wide thin-film micro-strip (TFMS) lines are used as impedance matching circuits. To protect capacitors from high voltage generation, series capacitor pairs are used as DC block and RF short circuits. A high linearity 3-stage nMOS SPST switch is also employed for the impedance match tuning. The GaN diode is modeled by measurement, and designed to be connected via eight bonding wires. The simulation results show that input return loss is lower than -14 dB, power efficiency is around 30% with 10 W RF input. The hybrid rectifier is capable of absorbing the parasitic capacitance of the utlised diode while maintaining the properties of the conventional Class-E rectifier with a series capacitor. The hybrid rectifier introduces two degrees of design freedom which enable circuit optimisation over a wide range of IPT requirements. A case study investigated the performance of three different hybrid rectifier designs of the same input (AC) and output (DC) resistance. All designs proved to be tolerant to diode parasitics as they maintained nearly constant efficiency and input resistance profiles over the entire tested output power range (50 W to 200 W). The worst case deviations in efficiency and input resistance profiles were 4 % and 7 % respectively. The lowest recorded receiving end efficiency was 91 % and the highest was greater than 95 %, when a 14.5 A current capability SiC Schottky diode was deployed.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132079274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment is based on the evaluation of a transfer function between two antennas placed inside and outside a confined reverberating environment made of several metallic cavities. Inside these cavities, a WIFI communication is used in order to control the measurement setup in order to take advantage of its simple connection with the measurement devices. Therefore the first exploitation of this experiment is directly to measure S-parameters as main parameters for characterizing this transfer functions. The second type of exploitation consists in the assessment of the integrity of the WIFI communication in such a closed and confined reverberating environment.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124104193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
