In this work, we explore the properties of time reversed microwave pulses in a low-loss ray-chaotic chamber. We measure the spatial profile of the collapsing wavefront around the target antenna, and demonstrate that time reversal can be used to transfer energy to a receiver in motion. We discuss the results of these experiments, and explore their implications for a wireless power transmission system based on time reversal.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128560938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DC-boosted biasing technique is proposed to enhance power conversion efficiency (PCE) by improving forward peak current, reducing diode forward voltage drop and suppressing reverse leakage current. The main rectification diode is configured as threshold compensated diode during on-state whilst the gate voltage is bounded during off-state to minimize reverse leakage current. The proposed rectifier is implemented in 65nm 6M/1P standard CMOS technology. Thanks to the principle of phase conjugation in mixers, retrodirectivity can be achieved in the far-field. More specifically, the proposed architecture in this article deals with an active transmitter module to retrodirect a received tone, with increased power, from a mobile unit and with circularly polarized (CP) radiation. Initial simulations predict an error below 4° with respect to the desired retrodirected phase at a different transmit frequency. In order to achieve this operation, it is necessary to use notch filters before and after the mixers, basically to avoid improper signal phase conjugation as well as unwanted signal re-radiation. To the authors' knowledge none of the reported RDAs designs found in the literature are able to provide similar functionality in terms of compactness and planar implementation as well as CP operation. Other applications for the proposed RDA circuit element include target tracking, low-cost sensor charging, and other wireless systems.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122182908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research has proposed secondary-side-only power and efficiency control to simplify the road-side facilities, which are installed over long distances. Although the primary voltage and the mutual inductance between the transmitter and receiver have to be given or estimated in the control, multi-parameter estimation from the secondary side without signal communication remains unrealized. This paper proposes a simultaneous estimation method of the primary voltage and the mutual inductance using only secondary-side information. The simulations and the experiments show that the proposed method is effective for secondary-side control.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130070290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The communication part is using the coupled pair of coils of the IPT system as transmitting medium. The proposed architecture is applicable to new and existing IPT systems with operating frequencies above 100 kHz. The challenge is to enable robust and reliable communication in the noisy environment of the power transfer. High reliability is necessary as it shall transmit sensor data error free. For example, this data link can be used for closed-loop operation of the IPT system. Through its fully digital implementation it can be quickly adapted for various other applications. It will be shown that a reliable communication system with joint power transfer and continuous data transmission over the same pair of coupling coils can be realised. Even during high power transfers it features a robust communication channel with outstanding signal to noise ratio and advantageous error vector magnitude. For proof of concept the key performance values of the proposed communication architecture are measured in a 20W IPT system.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129123121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are strict regulations for radio emissions and leakage levels. We attempt to avoid the regulation and transmission loss in free space by employing a waveguide method for microwave power transfer. We experimentally investigated the frequency-division multiple access techniques as a method of microwave power and communication transmission. Results indicated that the communication quality did not deteriorate for a carrier frequency distance of 7-8 MHz between the microwave power carrier and each modulated signal.
