To gain a sufficient efficiency to drive the motor onboard, we create a high-kQ capacitive coupling scheme of Via-Wheel Power Transfer. To enhance kQ, newly developed wheel uprights play the pivotal role in effective electrical insulation of the wheels from the vehicle frame. We also develop 1 kW impedance matching circuits based on the simultaneous two-port conjugate matching theory. As a result, the measured power transfer efficiency exceeds 80 %. The driving wheels successfully ran at a speed of up to 10 km/h on roller stands.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128666869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Normally, accurate power measurement is assured only for characteristic impedance in which the reflected power is zero. However, the sensor we developed enables highly accurate measurement of power and load impedance at low impedance in practical applications besides characteristic impedance. This paper describes the calibration reference device and calibration method for highly accurate measurement, and measurement accuracy verification results.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129002541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work uses narrow band matching allowing easy high efficiency conversion on its main power source, which is the WPT link. Its performance is evaluated showing an experimental peak efficiency over 40% for all frequency bands with central frequencies at 791, 1570 and 2340 MHz (with 35% efficiency bandwidth of 30, 60 and 40 MHz, respectively), when fed with a -10 dBm CW signal. Moreover, it is shown that the additional electromagnetic energy harvested will boost the efficiency of the wireless power transmission link alone from 41% up to 48%, when a collectable ambient energy of 10 μWatts is available.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130353138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capacitive coupling WPT has many advantages such as simple structure, low electromagnetic interference and transferring with metal barrier. However, it is hard to reduce the impedance of coupling capacitor for sufficient received output voltage in the capacitive coupling WPT. Therefore, in this paper, 6.78MHz high frequency operation and glass dielectric layers can make an impedance of the coupling capacitance small and it is possible to transfer power easily. In addition, less switching loss can be obtained for high efficiency and low electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise with the LLC resonant tank. It results in high efficiency and sufficient output power. Features of the proposed converter are verified with a 4.2W prototype for charging a mobile device.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122574290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an overview of the system will be presented. Large square coils are set up on the road surface where a mobility scooter with a small coil and no battery is traveling. The power source is a Class E amplifier operating at 13.56MHz with an output power of 150W. Power is selectively supplied to the coil upon which the vehicle is passing at the moment; vehicle position is detected by ultrasonic sensors. A system to automatically control the transmitting output power was developed, because it is necessary to supply a constant voltage to the scooter. The overall power efficiency when the power receiving coil is inside the area delimited by the transmitting coil is 47%.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115824465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To realize both high power transfer efficiency and high data rate, this paper proposes the WiCoPT system, which is supported by the Short-Range Multiple Input and Multiple Output (SR-MIMO) transfer technique. Relationship between the antenna element spacing and the transmission performance was analyzed to clarify the maximum performances of the power transfer efficiency and the data rate. The paper analyzed and demonstrated a 4×4 MIMO WiCoPT system. The numerical analysis indicates that the antenna element spacing to maximize the power transfer efficiency is different from that to realize the highest channel capacity. In addition, the analysis clarifies there are two suitable antenna element spacing for high power transfer operation. Therefore, our proposing system chose the antenna element spacing to realize the second peak for the high-level power transfer efficiency simultaneously. The 4×4 MIMO WiCoPT system achieved a channel capacity of 45 bit/s/Hz and a power transfer efficiency of 64.8 %.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130833609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using 3D electromagnetic simulations and numerical analysis, the relevant parameters for quality factor computation are extracted. The impact of different variables on a spiral resonator's quality factor is assessed, allowing to conclude on the optimum design parameters to achieve optimum efficiency on the power transmission through magnetic coupling. This work will contribute to enable the development future AUV wireless charging systems, which will allow for an improvement of AUV's range and endurance while ensuring lower operational costs.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134094678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
