In the proposed method, determination of the load parameters and position are achieved without requiring any communication link between the transmitter and receiver or using any extra coil. The load detection procedure is achievable using two modes: the energy injection mode and the free resonant mode. The operating principles and theoretical analysis of this method are presented in this paper, together with experimental results.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132369032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To satisfy the power budget of the wireless link and provide enough power to the drone, new circuits based on directive frequency-scanned leaky-wave antennas and circuits are proposed. It is shown how the proposed leaky-wave devices introduce enough gain in the receiver system, while assuring reception in a 120° field-of-view scanning range. At the same time, the suggested receiver system has low weight and cost since it is fully designed in PCB-compatible substrate integrated microwave technology. Preliminary results on this interesting system for wireless power transfer are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133209669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This consists in minimizing coil losses represented by proximity and eddy currents losses. For this purpose, specific geometric parameters characterizing spiral coils are shown to have a direct impact on increasing such losses. As a result, to minimize proximity effect, high ratios between the interspace separating two adjacent traces and the trace width are recommended to be used. In addition, to reduce eddy current losses, an empirical equation is developed to determine the optimal inner diameter sizes of the coils. The obtained numerical results confirmed that, using the proposed design constraints, the quality factor of the coils improves by 40 % in average with only 12 % decrease of the coil inductance value. Analytical formulation of the coil quality factor is obtained. Comparing analytical to simulation results, the obtained errors are reduced from 43 % to only 5 % when the recommended design constraints are applied.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122181870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a WPT receiver system integrated on a silicon chip is proposed to maximize the efficiency of the system. The presented chip is produced in a low cost standard 130 nm CMOS process with a high voltage extension. This enables the on-chip integration of a full bridge rectifier with 12V power MOSFETs. A prototype system, designed for the use in mobile applications, has been developed based on the Qi standard specifications. Different control strategies for the rectifier have been implemented and compared regarding their impact on the overall receiver system efficiency. The fully-active rectifier control technique enables the WPT system to decrease its losses and hence increase the system efficiency by more than 16% when compared to a passive approach. The experimental results confirm that the presented system is able to obtain a system efficiency of up to 88% at an output power of 1.8W.","PeriodicalId":113182,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC)","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131427197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2DWPT systems, a receiver coupler put on a waveguide sheet is powered wirelessly by capturing a microwave propagating across the sheet as its non-radiative guided mode. Generating a microwave focus in the waveguide sheet underneath the receiver is desirable for efficient and safe power transfer. In this paper, multiport feeding system for focusing in open-edged waveguide sheet is presented. The power consumption of the sensor was substantially reduced so that the energy required to operate could be stored in a 50μF external capacitor. The rectifier sensitivity has been improved so as to allow autonomous operation from a distance of 2m to a conventional Wi-Fi transmitter (2.4GHz@100mW). To achieving these features, all circuits were designed for operating at 0.5V supply voltage. In this paper, we studied on the operation of a rectifier circuit with intermittent input signal. Intermittent signal has high peak-to-average power ratio. We can expect an improvement of RF-DC conversion efficiency by using intermittent input signal. However, the operation of a rectifier circuit after the input stopped is not discussed enough. Therefore, we analyzed the operation of a rectifier circuit by considering the time constants. As a result of this study, we revealed that the operation of a rectifier circuit can be analyzed by using time constants in some conditions.
