The time-frequency distributions (TFDs) are a useful tool for local analysis of non-stationary and fast transient wideband signals especially for (PCG) signals. This tool provides a noninvasive probe to detect and to characterize the presence of abnormal murmur in the diagnosis of heart disease. In this paper, we introduce a method for the segmentation and the analysis the PCG signal for detecting the murmur based on time frequency analysis in conjunction with a threshold based on Renyi entropy. The method was applied to differents sets of PCG's: Early Aortic Stenosis (EAS), Late systolic Aortic Stenosis (LAS), and finely the Mitral Regurgitation (MR.). The analysis has been conducted on data which have been collected from [1] . Test performed on these real biomedical data proves the ability of the method for segmentation between the main components of the PCG signal and the pathological murmurs. Also, the method permits to elucidate and extract useful features for diagnosis and pathological recognition.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121025668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The used kernel is of the same form as that employed in speech decomposition into critical sub-bands to which the Hilbert transformer is then applied to carry out analytic signal decomposition. This is accomplished by utilizing a shifted half-band filter which has a parametric formula and can easily be adapted to any desired effective bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121523103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For many tasks like monitoring of displacements of buildings, artificial targets are not desired. Today's image assisted measurement systems can perform their measurements even without targeting. Such systems use the texture on the surface of the object to find \"interesting points\" which can replace the artificial targets. However, well-trained \"measurement experts\" are required to operate such a measurement system. In order to make such systems easy to use even for non-experts, it can be extended by an appropriate decision system which supports the operator. At the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics of Vienna University of Technology a new kind of image-based measurement system is to be developed (research project \"multi-sensor deformation measurement system supported by knowledge-based and cognitive vision techniques\"). This system can be used for measuring, analysing and interpreting deformations for the task of quality control in civil engineering. The workflow is based on new techniques originally developed in the area of artificial intelligence.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115733309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm solves the single view pose determination of a square marker with a straightforward, single-stage calculation. Further, the cost of the method is independent of image resolution. Our technique has two major distinctive points: an assumption of near-constant depth for the marker, which allows the splitting of the projection matrix into a perspective division and a rotation matrix, and a heuristic method using the perspective effect to disambiguate similar marker orientations.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124946816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Differentiation of the acetabular and femoral cartilages in conventional CT images due to very narrow space and low intensity of the articular space is very difficult. For this reason, MRI of the hip under continuous leg traction is the choice for assessment of the hip articular cartilage. However, this procedure is time consuming, painful, and hence inconvenient. By injecting the contrast media in the hip during data acquisition, we separated the femoral and acetabular cartilage from each other. The multi-step approach for segmentation of the femoral and acetabular cartilages is as follows. We first enhance the dynamic range and contrast of the data set by a conventional procedure. We then estimate the center of the femoral head utilizing a Hough transform. The estimated center is used as a pivotal point for beginning the process. Next, based on anatomical knowledge about the femoral head shape and size, we derive a region of interest (ROI) for further operations. In this case, by employing an Image Bottom Hat technique and anatomical knowledge about the curved shaped of the cartilages, we extract the valleys between contrast media and hip bones. The valley between the contrast media and femoral head and pelvis bone is associated with the femoral and acetabular cartilages. The anatomical assumptions we apply in this research is valid in most hip joint images. After segmentation, we present a 3D visualization and thickness map estimation of the hip femoral and acetabular cartilages. The proposed model is successfully applied to fourteen sets (3584 images) of actual in vivo hip CT data.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123045205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is very often encountered in practice that the captured image suffers from limited contrast due to various reasons. In such cases the visibility of the details from the captured scene is reduced. Among many proposed methods for image contrast enhancement the tone mapping approaches based on the image histogram are probably the most known due to their simplicity of implementation. In this paper we propose a novel histogram based method for image contrast enhancement. We present experimental results, performed on color images, to show the benefits of our approach compared with other existing implementations.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122643449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One such a psychiatric phenotype is alcoholism. In this paper the parameters of second order autoregressive model, peak amplitude of the power spectrum, mean of absolute value and the variance of the signal are extracted as features of the signal. The dimension of the feature vector is then reduced by means of PCA. Next a method based on fuzzy inference system as a fuzzy approach in classification is investigated. In this method first the data in each class is divided into two clusters separately and a Gaussian membership function is defined for each cluster. Classification is performed by means of if-then rules generated in the previous step. Then an adaptive neurofuzzy inference system is used for classification. Due to the ability of the neurofuzzy inference system to be trained higher classification accuracy is achieved. Finally with the use of a multilayer perceptron structure it is shown that an accuracy of 100% can be achieved for separating the two classes.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126343672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of our study is to present a newly developed technique, and to test its deblurring capabilities on images acquired by an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) used for the civil inspection of bridges. We propose an approach based on the double regularisation principle, as introduced by You and Kaveh. Our scheme lies on the use of a total variation (TV) regularisation term on the blur kernel, and a Mumford-Shah functional based one, on the image. We give the details of the minimisation algorithm and provide some preliminary results both on synthetical and real images.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125662707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
