Multiple features extracted from the video are considered for the determination of the scene boundaries in an unsupervised clustering procedure. For each video shot to shot comparison feature, one-dimensional signal is constructed by graph partitions obtained from the similarity matrix in a temporal interval. After each one-dimensional signal is filtered, k-means clustering is conducted for finding scene boundaries. The proposed graph-based scene boundary detection method is evaluated and compared with the graph-based scene detection method presented in literature.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132351795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a fusion rule based on the combination of PCA and consistency checking and applies it to multi-scale image fusion algorithm. The method applies the PCA method to the approximation image decomposed by multi-scale and adopts \"select max\" on detail image, the consistency of which is later checked with fusion decision. The proposed rule overcomes the instability and incontinuity of information occurring in the image fusion decomposed by multi-scale before. The experimental results show that better than the traditional rules, this method can effectively improve the quality of multi-sensor image fusion, and is especially applicable to images fusion of different sensors.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132932466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a very helpful procedure which extends the domain of success of most of the previously reported algorithms to highly curved chromosomes. The procedure is based on the calculation and analyzing the vertical and horizontal projection vectors of the binary image of the chromosome. The binary image is obtained by thresholding the input image after histogram modification. When applied to the real chromosome images the proposed algorithm could straighten all of the highly bent curved chromosomes within the image dataset. To assess the effectiveness of proposed algorithm, a neural network based chromosome classification system is developed. Wavelet transform domain features are extracted and used in an MLP structure for this purpose and a classification rate of 95.3% is obtained.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133332211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional centralized approaches to the problem lack scalability in such a scenario where a large number of sensors provide measurements simultaneously under a possibly non-collaborating environment. Therefore research efforts have focused on scalable, robust, and distributed algorithms for the inference tasks related to target tracking, i.e. localization, data association, and track maintenance. Graphical models provide a rigorous tool for development of such algorithms modeling the information structure of a given task and providing distributed solutions through message passing algorithms. However, the limited communication capabilities and energy resources of sensor networks pose the additional difficulty of considering the trade-off between the communication cost and the accuracy of the result. Also the network structure and the information structure are different aspects of the problem and a mapping between the physical entities and the information structure is needed. In this paper we discuss available formalisms based on graphical models for target tracking in sensor networks with a focus on the aforementioned issues. We point out additional constraints that must be asserted in order to achieve further insight and more effective solutions.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115430879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main challenge in this task is that in certain cases the projections do not uniquely determine the binary image. This can yield an extremely large number of (sometimes very different) solutions. Moreover, under certain circumstances the reconstruction becomes NP-hard. A commonly used technique to reduce ambiguity and to avoid intractability is to suppose that the image to be reconstructed arises from a certain class of images having some geometrical properties. This paper studies the reconstruction problem in the class of hv-convex images having their components in so-called decomposable configurations. First, we give a negative result showing that there can be exponentially many images of the above class having the same three projections. Then, we present a heuristic that uses four projections to reconstruct an hv-convex image with decomposable configuration. We also analyze the performance of our heuristic from the viewpoints of accuracy and running time.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115786859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore there is much labor dedicated to create a content-based image retrieval systems capable to efficiently index, retrieve and manage large scale databases. In this paper we propose a color indexing method based on Gaussian mixture model of color histograms. The model parameters serve as signatures providing fast and efficient color image retrieval. In this paper we present results showing that proposed approach is robust to color image distortions introduced by lossy compression artifacts. Therefore the proposed method is well suited for indexing and retrieval of Internet based collections of color images stored in lossy formats.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124000560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The task is to assign each component of the vector time-series to a single cluster, basing this assignment on the simultaneous dynamical similarity of the component to other components in the cluster. This is in contrast to the more familiar task of clustering a set of time-series based on global measures of their similarity. The model is based on a Dirichlet Mixture of Linear Gaussian State-Space models (LGSSMs), in which each LGSSM is treated with a prior to encourage the simplest explanation. The resulting model is approximated using a 'collapsed' variational Bayes implementation.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129533767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topic belongs to a wider area of text-to-phoneme mapping where the letters of a written text must be translated into their corresponding phonemes. In the context of text-to-phoneme mapping if the words of the written text belong to a single known language, transcription from the written letters to their phonemes can be done directly. In the situations when the language of the input text is not known, usually the first step is to identify the language and based on this information the text-to-phoneme mapping is done. As a consequence the performance of the language detection module can highly influence the accuracy of letter and word translations. In this paper we analyze the performance of a previously published hybrid approach and we introduce an improved method of language identification from written text.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129941841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exploiting the temporal correlation between two successive sequence frames we can reduce enormously the memory space needed for image registration. In this context, we have applied and compared different algorithms of search used in block matching technique. These algorithms include full search algorithm, three steps search algorithm, new three steps search algorithm, four steps algorithm, diamond search algorithm and minimum search algorithm. The performance of an algorithm is a compromise between the pick signal to noise ratio and the computing search time of the algorithm.","PeriodicalId":112420,"journal":{"name":"2007 5th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130942556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
