Lack of research on the development of fishing equipment technology causes quantity stagnation. It also forces the fishermen to use hazardous equipment. Lobster is a commodity with superior characteristic and a high price. However, fishing is limited due to lack of equipment for fishing it. Paciran is one of the coastal areas in Java Sea that is rich on lobster. Nevertheless, during lobster season, the fishing equipment is limited to bubu and net which are not useful for fishing lobster. This research aimed to design new lobster fishing equipment, which is suitable for a small fishing boat. Design was performed using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) that would consider the needs of the fisherman. Function Analysis System Technique (FAST) was also used to develop the technological capability. Cost reduction was accomplished by employing the FAST method based on the highest costing component and using a value engineering approach. Influence of the equipment on the fishery industrial cluster performance was then predicted using causal loop diagram. It is aimed to identify an influence index. This research produced lobster fishing equipment that fulfills the main criteria of passive fishing equipment with specific capability for lobster fishing.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114232601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These clauses become critical success factors in the implementation of ISO 14001. The research was based on a case study in a cement company in Indonesia which has been certified with ISO 14001 since 1999. Critical success factors of ISO 14001 implementation for each management level in the cement company were analyzed using logistic regression. The purpose was to obtain the most important factors (clauses) which should be given the main attention by the cement company in order to get better results in implementing ISO 14001. Beside positive influence of factors or clauses in the ISO 14001 negative influence was also found. For workers, Implementation and Operation (odds ratio 7.367) and Management Reviews (odds ratio 3.136) gave significant positive influence to the success of ISO 14001 implementation. While for supervisors, Implementation and Operation (odd 22.897) and Checking and Corrective Actions (odd 32.427) showed significant positive influence on the success of ISO 14001 implementation. There are no significant factors that influenced the success of ISO 14001 implementation for managers. Although the results were insignificant, the Management Reviews gave a negative influence in ISO 14001 implementation for managers. Also, Checking and Corrective Actions (odd 0.331) showed significant negative influence for ISO 14001 implementation for workers, while planning (odds 0.331) provided a significant negative influence for ISO 14001 implementation for supervisors. The negative influence indicated potential problems in the organization of the cement company; thereby, organizational ergonomics are seen as a good solution to identify and overcome the problems.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133280448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the main target audiences of the existing digital games are young generations, who do not warrant the special needs required by elderly. In this paper, based on the field study of game for elderly - Chinese Water Painting - we propose a curious companion for the elderly. The curious mechanism of the artificial companion is developed based on Berlyne's model of curiosity. The implementation considers three needs of the elderly: the smoothness of game playing, the entertainment, and the caring for the elderly. A preliminary study suggests a wide range acceptance of the curious companion.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132262831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To cater to changes in human size while maintaining initial kinematic computation, an additional exoskeleton named the Shadow-Suit is proposed as a control module to provide feedback to the exoskeleton (the outer shell). This Shadow-Suit is an anthropomorphic suit to be attached to the non-anthropomorphic exoskeleton (outer shell), where movements of this suit will be “shadowed” by the outer shell exoskeleton. This paper focuses on the development of the lower extremity of this Shadow-Suit concept. The kinematics of the lower extremity was computed using Denavit-Hartenberg modelling, where the end joint of the lower extremity is predicted during a normal walking stance of the pilot. Sensory feedback was processed by Omron CPM-2A PLC module, in which lag of the reaction of the pneumatic actuator on the outer shell exoskeleton was able to be minimized to the point of ≈1.2 seconds. Result suggest that this concept is able to reduce the excessive torque towards the pilot, while at the same time able to accommodate different pilot limb length without having to change the link length of the exoskeleton.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115897327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Past studies showed that the main cause of low quality games among Malaysian football players is lack of good kicking technique. Instep kicking technique is frequently used for a short, accurate passing and for shooting a goal. Generally, the instep kick uses the shoe laces to strike the ball. The three main objectives of this study were to investigate: influence of approach angle; distance of supporting leg from the ball; and ball internal pressure. These aspects were found to have a significant effect on the average angular velocity of the knee on the kicking leg. Six subjects using dominant right leg and free from any injury were selected to take part in this study. Data collection was performed by taking pictures using 3-D video focusing at the lower body part (i.e. from waist to ankle). Markers were attached to the lower part of the body, prior to the subject making a kick. Results of the study were calculated by using Response Surface method (RSM), which showed three parameters, namely: approach angle, distance of the supporting leg from the ball and the ball internal pressure have significant effects in producing high quality instep kick. The best results were generated by RSM for 53.6 approach angle, 8.8 cm distance of supporting leg from the, 0.9 bar internal ball pressure, and the knee angular velocity at 779 deg/s.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129735478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many researchers have focused on various possibilities. This study used camera interaction as an avenue for improving user experience during presentations. The study was divided into two stages. The first stage analyzed the design principles of human-oriented systems, and implemented a rationale based on related principles. The system can be adopted as the central mechanism in sensing the motion of visitors using a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor, linking the camera space to media content. We demonstrate that the proposed system supplies interactive power for natural interaction and improved usability. The second stage investigated user experience of such an interaction pattern. The results show that the system can be applied as a natural interface between visitors and presentations, providing the audience with a satisfying and pleasurable experience.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125006257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is still yet sufficient evidence from research. This study evaluated effectiveness of low intensity blue light to improve awareness in performing a monotonous activity at night. An experiment using within-subject design was conducted with 12 participants. They were asked to perform proof-reading activity for one hour at midnight time on two different days. The two days differed in lighting condition: regular room lighting (~150 lux) with and without additional blue light exposure. Participants' performance was determined based on number of typographical error found in typed text. Electroencephalography (EEG) signals were recorded continuously during the experiment. Awareness was measured based on changes in (θ+α)/β of power spectral density. In addition, subjective sleepiness level was recorded using Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS). Results showed that participants' performance increased with blue light exposure. Changes in KSS level was lower with blue light exposure (0.02 vs. 0.03; p<;0.05). Evaluation of EEG signals based on (θ+α)/β also suggested that awareness was higher if blue light was utilized. In conclusion, blue light with low intensity can be used for ergonomic intervention and seems to benefit workers in enhancing awareness of clerical workers during night time.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131102009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Products and services need to offer features and properties which can make them distinguishable and attractive to customers. Emotions and feelings are prominent during product interaction and service encounter. Kansei Engineering (KE) enables interpretation and translation of customer emotions into design parameters. The application of KE covers both products and services design. Besides dealing with attractive exterior appearances, KE has an ability to optimize properties that are not directly detectable or visible, such as the comfort of hospital and concert hall. There are few empirical studies. Kansei management should recognize cultural differences in Kansei. However, for analysis of cultural values we need to understand the different needs of different customers. A study of luxury hotel services for Indonesian, Japanese and Singaporean tourists, was conducted using interviews and a tri-lingual face-to-face questionnaire. 425 responses were collected. Japanese tourists were found to be the most Kansei-oriented. They tended to value luxury hotels as “clean” and “quiet” places to stay. Indonesian and Singaporean tourists shared a common response to the Kansei word “elegant” which correlates with their common cultural dimension of “power distance”. Incorporation of cultural issues into Kansei studies can provide marketing strategies for customers of different cultural backgrounds.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122556291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
