There are advantages and disadvantages to both solutions, and which is used will largely depend on the context of use. In this paper, we present an outdoor user evaluation of an alternative wearable AR device mounted on the forearm to allow hands free movement. Findings on the strengths and weaknesses of the system along with user recommendations were obtained, and serve as an indicator to its potential applicability for wider use, particularly in comparison with a hands free HMD solution.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126595843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first part of the study, the development of the instrument allowing the measurement of employee evaluations of perceived workload, attained performance, and strain is presented. Railway signalers and controllers filled out a diary every four hours over ten consecutive working shifts. Analysis of the objective workload conditions of the railway signalers and their relations to subjective workload perceptions in the diary indicates a satisfying validity of the measures. In the second part of the study, the newly developed diary instrument was used for macro-ergonomic evaluations in two other controller work places. Using the shift diary it was possible to answer practical macro-ergonomic questions that originated from the respective work situations. The strengths and possible limitations of the diary instrument are discussed.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132461533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A life-size model of a staircase with a water pump that generated water flow from the top of stairs was constructed. In the study, electromyogram data were measured for six muscles on the right lower extremity, namely, the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, long head of the biceps femoris, medial gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, and gluteus maximus. From the results, the GA exhibited the highest muscle activity in the latter part of the stance phase, suggesting that the subjects tended to avoid stumbling against the stream of the water during ankle planter flexion. The results obtained from this study would be used for the construction of a guideline for evacuation from urban underground in flood disaster.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134145790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Factors influencing CWA were identified in the context of intensive care unit (ICU) nursing. Senior nurses (45 and above) were subjected to a virtual simulation of an emergency ICU situation with three patients to care for. Color cues in the vital signs monitor, visual cues in the physician's orders, abnormalities and arrangement of medicine in the e-cart were adjusted into different settings to produce two trials per nurse. Color cues, visual cues and alphabetical arrangement were found to improve response time and accuracy. Greater task complexity also led to poorer performance quality. Other relationships in the CWA model were also validated.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128923906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An exhaust duct system was designed using system simulation and a correction process method. The research shows that the method contains a simple computational procedure and takes into account the pressure balancing adjustment under certain limits on space or flow velocity. Therefore, application of the method in the design of a duct system can substantially improve the design efficiency.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128640701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Human mental models can be realized and quantified through the card sorting technique and the employment of similarity coefficients. However, an apparent lack of justification for the choice of employed similarity coefficients in previous studies shows the necessity of research on this subject. In this study, we applied the card sorting technique, questionnaires and statistical analysis to assess eight different similarity coefficients. Results showed that five similarity coefficients, Anderberg, Dice, Jaccard, Ochiai, and Ochiai II, were relatively suitable in measuring human mental models compared to the other three coefficients, Rogers-Tanimoto, Russell-Rao, and Simple Matching. The results may be due to the major difference of these similarity coefficients in including or excluding the count of the number of categories in which a concerned pair of cards was not present. Potential gender effect on similarity judgment was found and discussed. The findings of this study can provide useful guidelines for the use of similarity coefficients in measuring human mental models.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129951804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there were only few studies conducted that assessed its causes. In this study, several factors that may have contributed to motorcycle accidents are identified. Using logistic regression, it was found out that driver's behavior, traffic movement, vehicle maneuver, weather and surface condition have contributed significantly to the occurrence of accidents. Moreover, analysis of variance is used to determine whether the sub-factors have significant differences and Post Hoc analysis is used to distinguish which among these sub-factors differ from each other. Finally, a comparison is done on the number of accidents before and after the implementation of the lane sharing scheme along Commonwealth Avenue, a highway with the highest rate of accidents in the metropolis. It was validated that the implementation of lane sharing scheme had not actually made a significant impact in terms of reducing the number of road accidents. What is more revealing is the increase of motorcycle accidents in the Commonwealth Avenue after the implementation.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128861794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psychophysical measurement technique was used to quantify the overall discomfort as well as body part discomfort. The energy cost was observed to be 17.64 kJ min-1 for walking type, whereas for riding type power tiller, energy cost was 14.31 kJ min-1 during rototilling. Energy expenditure was more in the rototilling operation than in transportation. Mean overall discomfort rating on a 10 point visual analogue discomfort scale varied from 4.0 to 5.2 with the operator's seat and from 4.6 to 7.0 without the operator's seat during rototilling. It was observed that the attachment of an operator's seat to power tiller reduced human energy expenditure by 19%. This study emphasizes the need to provide a seat while operating power tillers for reducing the drudgery and fatigue.","PeriodicalId":111259,"journal":{"name":"2012 Southeast Asian Network of Ergonomics Societies Conference (SEANES)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115586581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
