Assessment of motorcycle driving on the increasing rate of road accidents in Metro Manila
There is a continuous increase of motorcycle accidents in the Philippines in the last 10 years. However, there were only few studies conducted that assessed its causes. In this study, several factors that may have contributed to motorcycle accidents are identified. Using logistic regression, it was found out that driver's behavior, traffic movement, vehicle maneuver, weather and surface condition have contributed significantly to the occurrence of accidents. Moreover, analysis of variance is used to determine whether the sub-factors have significant differences and Post Hoc analysis is used to distinguish which among these sub-factors differ from each other. Finally, a comparison is done on the number of accidents before and after the implementation of the lane sharing scheme along Commonwealth Avenue, a highway with the highest rate of accidents in the metropolis. It was validated that the implementation of lane sharing scheme had not actually made a significant impact in terms of reducing the number of road accidents. What is more revealing is the increase of motorcycle accidents in the Commonwealth Avenue after the implementation.
